What's wrong with paying people for work?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Conflict_of_interest

When you are rewarded for finding a flaw, your monetary incentive is aligned with your actions.

In case of review, it's the opposite.

could anyone send me some original number puzzles for the conference treasure hunt?

like:
Quote
What 5-digit number has the following features:
If we put the numeral 1 at the beginning, we get a number three times smaller than if we put the numeral 1 at the end of the number.

http://www.mathsisfun.com/puzzles/number-puzzles-index.html

The answer would lead to the account with some Nxts..
(if not, I will try to make some..)

"You can send me email at [email protected]; I might respond within a few months."
- it also may mean: "I might respond within a few months, but for $16000 I might respond within a few days"  :-)

Yeah, it looks like he receives a lot of crap: "please don't send me email of the following types: qmail support questions."  Smiley
So it'll likely just a way to reduce such e-mails.

Well, he implemented qmail by himself. Don't confuse it with gmail.

Right! I did confuse.

Get quality by monety

That's not how it works in the scientific world. It's customary, practically a requirement, to disclose if your research is affiliated. Not everyone does it, but that's a different story.

So long as this review is paid for, it will always have a "lesser quality" than true, independent review.

Can't we wait until NXT becomes popular enough? Or ask without offering money?

Have you thought that maybe some people refused precisely because of ethical concerns?

And if you do it, at least be damn sure the guy discloses that he was paid, otherwise it will look very shady.

yes, esp. considering that a transfer fee of 1NXT =1GoldOunce is rather .. unsound. Same holds for sending a short text msg - talk about golden words!

Even a minimal fee of 0.01NXT would mean $12 fee at current gold price - So we need to get at least two orders lower with fees to make that feasible ..

Jesus, not the fee talk again.

nope - just putting into perpsective with some hypothetical external gauges

Then we'll make fee  0.000001NXT

Basic questions

Could someone please explain to me how NRS determines the following:

1) Active vs. Known peers (why are some peers "Active" and some just "known"? How is this determined?)
2) Active Connected vs. Active Disconnected (what does "Disconnected" mean? Disconnected from the Nxt network? How is this determined?)

Background to the questions: if you go to https://node2.mynxt.info:7875/ you can't see node1.mynxt.info in the active list. It should be there though because node1.mynxt.info is hallmarked and is online (as you can check by going to https://node1.mynxt.info:7875/). Furthermore, the IP of node1.mynxt.info is in the "well-known" list in node2.mynxt.info web.xml. So why is it not there?

Anyone? Please?

Doesn't it bother you, guys, that paying a large sum of money for a crypto review is... well... kinda smells bad?

What's wrong with paying people for work?

Also, it's out here in the open, so I fail to see how it could be seen a somehow shady.

If we were to make some kind of alleyway trade with BTC, it would be different.

we could also set up a reward of 20 BTC for anyone who finds a flaw in the code and provides mathematical proof.

Why? Noone is paying him to say "Oh, it's fine, just fine!"
Of course you should pay people for their job. This guy is independent of NXT, he has no reason to spend his time on NXT unless he is compensated for his time.
