There is no way Nxt is going to catch dodge until basic things are rolled out.

(1) A light easy to use client
(2) The  native client ability to sign transaction and broadcast them to a public node so people don't have to download Java and run NRS

Without these two things, forget about anyone outside tech nerd using Nxt.

We have "huge" big projects but basic functionality is missing

It's coming.

Well, the priorities are screwed up. Roll out local signing of transaction before AE

As things stand, Nxt isn't even usable on a mobile device as you can't send money from a phone without sharing your password with untrusted third-party node.

As far as i understood from BCnext's vision the idea is to create coins on top of Nxt that will be used for sending money from phones (and not only) and there won't be a "trust" issue with those coins.

What happens when you issue the same asset a second time? Does it issue more of the same asset or replace the total amount of asset. Also, is the 1000NXT fee apply to only the first issue asset?

It seems the little things don't get as much attention as the headline grabbers but these little things do add up.

I'm waiting for an official sanctioned way by CFB on how to do local signing of transactions.
I thought we had four variants of JS signing. Is there more you need?

doge needs marketing because it has no substance. we dont need marketing because we do have substance. granted we need to communicate the relevant facts about nxt in a calm and orderly fashion to those who are not aware of those facts. i suppose you could call that marketing. but this is what marketing means to doge, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H3oiThw2RxE this we absolutely do not need.

Agreed their marketing "way" is different from ours but the simple task of educating people regarding Nxt existence is not.

I have friends at school that know hardly anything of BitCoin, but have learned of DOGE as a result of all the marketing they have done.

I tell them NXT, and they are like "what?"  Huh

NXT needs to be something for everyone, not just the techies. Something that everyone wants to use. Marketing can come in all ways, shapes, and forms. Of which DOGE has done so successfully so far.

I totally agree. Doge is just simple and integrated or even a product of the "simple" online community (funny memes etc.).

I don't say that we should do the same, but it is troubling, that this concept works much better than a serious one like ours...
NXT currently does not have much more than DOGE as far as the end user is concerned, some can argue NXT has less. Actually, the market currently is saying NXT has about half of what DOGE has, this is primarily due to olympics fever, but even before that DOGE and NXT were trading at close to dilution parity.

Of course, this will change dramatically in the coming months, but until NXT actually has things the mass market wants, it will remain where it is. With DOGE, all they can do is compete against LTC and then BTC. With NXT, we can make it so that none of the firstgen coins can come close. long term, NXT only worries about rival second gens, like etherium.

DogeCoin goes on par with Peercoin - http://coinmarketcap.com/

when a clone can compete with its parent with no conceivable advantage, this is very dangerous indeed for the idea of digital scarcity. this is very troubling.

Dogecoin is far more popular than Peercoin, it's been pretty much determined to climb up.

It does actually have great advantage: popularity.
Basically Peercoin has no marketing...Nxt cannot suffer the same faith...we have to adopt Dogecoin marketing best practices.

When the doge bubble pops, it will be catastrophic.  The doge price is unsustainable because doge doesn't offer any advantages over bitcoin.
I wouldn't be too sure about that. I predicted DOGE will replace LTC in marketcap and could even rival BTC. The network effect is very powerful and lasts for many years. Years in crypto is like decades in the real world. There are plenty of TV shows that really should not be made, but yet year after year, they make it and it makes money.

People have gotten used to spending DOGE vs. hoarding BTC and speculating with it. Of course there are DOGE speculators, myself included, but even when they arent getting olympics coverage the price is relatively stable. That is with a daily inflation rate of more than 2%. So the DOGE market cap grows by 2% if the price stays the same.

Certainly not a straight line up, but DOGE vs PPC no contest. DOGE vs LTC is a more even match, but the shiba much power

We can also develop useful services using NXT and then market those services. That will allow for much broader appeal as the total market goes from "universe of people for NXT" vs "universe of people for NXT + universe for people who use ANY service built on top of NXT"

NXT doesn't have to follow the more comedic route that DOGE has done, but needs more marketing that is professional and can get the "average" person interested.

I have to partly disagree here.  Yes, it is not innovative, BUT Doge in itself is a marketing bomb, it has the substance of a protocol that is proven to just work (Litecoin) as well as its popular meme. In fact it has a huge user base, plus attracts new users to cryptocurrencies by the minute due to its "funny" approach.

In my humble opinion, NXT on the other hand is serious, but lacks key parts that hinder its growth. First of all, there is a great barrier for new users to get into it due to the lack of a multi-platform client that can be easily used without having to worry about how to set things up. NXT can go for any marketing effort, as long as it is not straight forward to actually use NXT most of its marketing efforts will go to waste though. It is a truly 2.0 crypto but people understanding that it actually is and using it -- that's another story.

EDIT: I want to separate what is marketed & the marketing process itself.

The effective use of the marketing process should allow you to grow any product/service whether it's coke, insurance, beer or coins.
