Sri Lanka vs Zimbabwe, 1st ODI is about to start within few hours. Sri Lanka team looking strong as always. Kusal Mendis, Pathum Nissanka, Asalanka, akila Dananjaya are in the Squad. where Craig Ervine(c), Sikandar Raza, Luke Jongwe are pretty popular players belongs to Zimbabwe. I saw the Google prediction where 78% winning possibility for SL & 22% of Zimbabwe. Recently Uganda creates history by defeated Zimbabwe and become quality in ICC T20 World Cup 2024; that proves the weakness of Zimbabwe team. But i can't imagine what is going to happened cause situation can change anytime but SL sounds more chance to win IMHO
I don't think it is hard to predict who will win the matches here, to be honest. I know Zimbabwe are kind of a strong team but at the end of the day kind of let everyone down. Zimbabwe failed to qualify for the T20 when they failed to beat weak teams. I don't see any point in Sri Lanka playing with Zimbabwe while they got a World Cup coming up. They should play with someone stronger to better prepare for the World Cup.
Exactly this is not a big deal to predict between these two teams. But this is cricket my dear friend. So here a small team can beat a big team easily. I know Sri Lanka team is really good and have ability to beat Zimbabwe but We can't underestimate the Zimbabwe team too. By the way at this time we can't say anything. Both teams performance will show everything that which team is more strong. So for now we should wait for the match.
If Sri Lanka will take first turn and if Sri Lanka will make 250+ runs. So this will be little bit difficult to chase by Zimbabwe.
If population is main factor of comparing with one team to another, then how did they become such a big team and who can they compete with in India. I think money & other many stuffs is play important role to build a strong team. Bangladesh has big population over 174 million (i think it’s not accurate data) but they can't produced such an international players as considering massive population, and also Pakistan has high population 240 million, but they can't make enough. On the other hand Australia & New Zealand both of extremely lower population but these are big teams.
Previously population was not a major factor. The reason is that there were few quality cricketing facilities in countries such as India, Bangladesh and Pakistan. Small nations such as Australia and South Africa had these facilities and they made up for the difference in population with the advantage in infrastructure. But now every nook and corner of India has a cricket academy with state of the art facilities. Quality of club cricket is improving and it is almost at the same level as that in England and Australia. Domestic 4-day cricket still needs improvement. This in turn has ensured that India reaps the benefits from the population factor.

There are more chances of Sir Lanka to win than Zimbabwe because we have seen currently the Team Zimbabwe has not going to involve more than their top batting. Recently their matches were at the stage that they have been lost in many matches from other countries. As the series will give us so much fun and that would be nice because they both have good batting now a days.

None of the other teams come close. For example, New Zealand has a population of just 5 million (less than 1% of that of India). It is simply not possible for the smaller nations to compete with India. Neither in terms of money or in terms of player pool. And this is making international cricket really boring (especially when the matches are being held in sub-continent).

Afghanistan's growth seems to have stagnated after they got the test status in 2019. They performed well in the 2023 ODI World Cup, but apart from that their performance during the last 4 years have been sub-par. In fact, both the teams (Afghanistan and Ireland) who got test status back in 2019 have faced the same fate. I am not sure exactly what happened. But it seems that for both the teams the "golden generation" of players retired and the younger players failed to fill the gap. And this is being reflected in the performance of Afghan U-19 team as well.

I mean when you have this big of population, talented players are bound to come out. All the BCCI has to do is find them out and train and nurture them. They definitely have a very strong talent hunt system to find out the talented young players. Some of the recent young players are very talented and some of them are not performing right now in the national team but it is okay. It will take time.
As far as I can remember, Shubman Gill also suffered at first but the Indian team gave him chance after chance and now he is one of the best openers in the world. Their squad depth is so good that 2 of their team can be formed to play 2 series at the same time.

U19 vs Afghanistan U19 match looked as if the Afghanistan team surrendered very helplessly to the India U19 team. Indian teams are performing well in this tournament. India under 19s team effort in this game was brilliant and their bowler lineup was very strong because they dismissed entire team in very small target and their team scored only 88 runs in 33 overs. India under 19s team chase down this all target in oy 12 overs and India team scored 92 runs with lost of one wicket and won this game by 9 wickets and 38 left for play. A.Singh batsman scored 52 runs in 39 balls and he hitted six 4s and two 6s. M Tiwari bowler dismissed 3 wickets of Afghanistan under 19s team and in this game, Afghanistan under 19s team performance was very poor. Hope they will perform good effort in upcoming games in this series.

Exactly! Indian Under Nineteen team is much stronger in this Tri-Nation Tournament. They played two matches and won and they are also leading in point table. I think if they will continue this performance so I hope they will win easily this tournament.
The Indian U19 team has become far more than other teams as they have been winning the U19 World Cup for consecutive years. They are to be the favorites in this tri-nation cup without any doubts. The problem happens when these youngsters qualify for the IPL. Their performance as a cricket player goes down because these guys get paid very well at a small age. Only a few then make it to the Indian national team and those few are the current ones we know as legends of Indian cricket like Kohli, Rohit, and Jadeja.
