Check the directory, it will be called core.something where something is a number. It will not be called just core.

Hmm?  The complaint was:
"/home/brec/miners/cgminer/core": not in executable format: File format not recognized

rather than not found.  And:

Code:
brec@ubuntu:~/miners/cgminer$ ll core
-rw------- 1 brec brec 270467072 2011-12-29 08:06 core

Oh sorry.

Try:
gdb cgminer core

Q: GUI version?
A: No. The RPC interface makes it possible for someone else to write one though.
GOD, please NO....NO GUI.

Considering I am (for the most part) Window's brainwashed and anti-cmd-line (read: LAZY), I couldn't imagine using CGMiner any other way.

I am a Win7 x64 Miner and use BAT files to launch CGMiner on all of my rigs.
I found it actually took LESS TIME to configure and maintain a decent BAT file for CGMiner control than it took to configure GUIminer, with it's GUI none the less.

With the available Flags, anything is possible and creating 1 BAT file, then copying over to like-machines is a snap.

Web Monitoring/RPC Interface...GREAT. Main CGMiner GUI ? P L E A S E  N O !

I don't even bother using the new Config file, as I use the BAT files to also set CPU affinity to a single core (as my band-aid for the Windows 100% CPU bug).

Switching settings for me is as simple as commenting IN & OUT of a line in the BAT file, depending on what I want CGMiner to do for me, at a given time/room temp etc.

It's safe to say that, I love CGMiner....LOL

Don't worry.  The developer has expressed no interest in a cgminer gui.  The point of the answer is that RPC allows a GUI to be developed.

For example you could have an android app which monitors an entire 20GH, 50 GPU farm.  Someone else could design a web server front end possibly w/ SMS notification on critical failures (GPU not responding so you get a text message).

Even if you offered him money I think the chance that a GUI is integrated into cgminer is <0%.  The good news is that w/ RPC there is no need to have a GUI integrated into the miner.

Anyone else had this problem with CGminer? I'd really like to use it, But it just keeps going Black

1) Be sure to open a command prompt window (don't try to launch from explorer) to see any error messages.
2) Try setting pool, username, password from the command line.  (example included in first post).

Yeah i think it's idea #2...
Scratch that, Im an idiot It's #1... /facepalm...
Im such a train wreck without my glasses x3

If you're waiting a few seconds after it goes black/blank for it to start showing info, ignore this reply.

Uggh, Alright, Im in, I'll use the epic CGminer without a GUI.

It's just such a pain in the ass to learn a new dictionary of commandlines
is thier a lovely noobfriendly guide? Or is it simple enough to figure out with the info provided on the front page
i need to read more
cgminer's command line was way easier for me to pickup than some of the other miners I tried.  You can also build the config completely inside the miner and not worry about flags. I highly recommend using a config over starting cgminer with a ton of flags.
"Q: GUI version?

though."

Yeaaahhhh thats where im going to need help. So far, After i hit enter when i fill in my pass the whole CGminer window (win764bit) just spews Something down then goes Blank
Oh windows... I'm sorry
*snickers* Yeah...
I just cant bring myself to Linux, I've seen so many Collossally amazing things done Via linux,
BUT ALL THE COMMAND LINES, Fuck it'd be like relearning all of computers again x.x
I've seen cars do some awesome things, but ALL THOSE PEDALS, Fuck I'll stick with my horse. :p
LOL Great analogy, But you dont have a car, You have a bike, But yes, I do have a horse.

I get similar behavior when I load balance.  I also saw this with 2.0.8 when load balancing.

I should mention that I'm using:

Any theories on the cause of what appears to be cgminer having (local?) network problems?  Happened last night, and now again this morning:

[2011-12-29 09:52:48] Switching to http://mint.bitminter.com:8332

During the above period, web browsing from another system on the LAN seemed normally snappy.  Last night, I couldn't find any evidence that Eclipse was down, but I added BitMinter as a backup.  That (based on above) indicates it's not a pool problem.

I (Q)uit cgminer, but that didn't yield me a console prompt.  Ctrl-C was merely echoed as ^C with no other effect.  So I rebooted and now all seems normal.

In response to Q, after normal/complete console and log output:

Same here.

His miner isn't working at the moment so he can't get ANY OpenCL to run or crash.
I succeeded in getting it to crash today and yep it was in the ATI driver when it crashed - after all the shutdown code had completed also.

Edit: however, who cares? Smiley
My last 6h 21m 45s (only 724.63MHs) of hashing = 3786 Shares Accepted, 1 Rejected
That's an all time low score record for me! (0.0264%)
I also have the option "--submit-stale" enabled so that makes that number truly amazing IMO.
(and I'm mining 2 pools not just 1)
I am experiencing the crash on Fedora 15 as well, and the only thing changed is the cgminer version.  I agree that it wouldn't matter if it always happened after the shutdown code completed, however, it happened before the shutdown code completed the second time I experienced it, so I couldn't see how many shares I had submitted.

Can you, in whatever command line window, set "ulimit -c unlimited", then execute a new instance of cgminer and quit that at once (it should print something like "segmentation violation: core dumped"). You can do that without stopping any other running cgminer instances you may have.
There should then be a file called "core" in whatever directory you're in.
After this, execute "gdb path/to/cgminer core" and in gdb first execute "bt" and then "bt full", and post the results here?

My suspicion is/was that cgminer now triggers some bug in the AMD opencl driver which it didn't before, but if it is only a catalyst problem, it should occur for ckolivas, too (assuming he still uses 11.6).

This is not what you wanted; gdb complains about the core file; something's missing:

Code:

Well at least I know it's not my code at fault. Shame though...

Not necessarily implying your code is at fault, but a data point:  here, no seg fault with 2.0.8, seg fault with 2.1.0, no driver change.  Catalyst 11.6, Ubuntu 11.04.

"Q: GUI version?
A: No. The RPC interface makes it possible for someone else to write one
though."

Yeaaahhhh thats where im going to need help. So far, After i hit pass the whole CGminer window (win764bit) just spews Something down then goes Blank

Start command prompt (Run -> cmd) and then type or paste in (right-click -> paste, Ctrl + V doesn't work) the filepath for cgminer.exe, then add all the tags (-o (for pool address and port), -u (for worker name), -p (worker password)). It shouldn't close even if something goes wrong, so you'll see what message it gives you.

Regarding the Q bug - it wasn't present on my system in version 2.0.8.
