I noticed that Bitfinex changed again their bank, now they use a Portuguese bank, has anyone tried to deposit fiat money since this change?

This thread seems dead. Why?

I could think of several reasons:
1. Bitfinex abandoned the thread years ago, which disincentivizes people from posting about their problems or from bringing up suggestions
Various bitfinex reps are fairly active on reddit, both on r/bitfinex and r/bitcoinmarkets

Giancarlo´s Bitcointalk is actually also still active from time to time:

[...]

I´d also dare to guess that he probably reads this thread here sometimes.
[...]

I would not be surprised if someone from bitfinex's support reviews this thread for issues.

@Samarkand as I said very few. I'm just pointing out the contrast with when I first came here when nearly all did. I put that down to the growth of the Bitcoin world. Services are restricted to one thread each, a lot of them are large enough now to justify having their own forum. It's not exactly practical to search through a thread that's 100's of pages long to find the answer to a question.

Edit. just a thought I wonder if it's possible for a mod to edit the title to read " [ABANDONED]Bitfinex.com first Bitcoin P2P lending platform for leverage trading"

Not just Bitfinex. Back in 2013 all services used this forum as a support platform. Very few are still here and using it that way now. Then this was the only place available but now there are many alternatives and the forum format isn't particularly suited to the task.

...

Quoine has representatives that are pretty active in the official Quoine thread.
Kraken has representatives that are pretty active in the official Kraken thread.
Even an exchange like Cex.io has a forum rep that is active occasionally.

It would be amazing if he would start to post here again.

5. The old-timers in this thread rarely post anymore, because they are probably living on their own private island after enjoying all the P2P margin lending
returns since 2013

Where's my island?!

I was talking about P2P margin lending returns and not affiliate income  Grin

This thread seems dead. Why?

What would you expect? There's no forum reps here anymore. There was something endearing about Giancarlo and Rafael posting on the forums back in the day. Giancarlo was especially a douchebag. Smiley

Now this thread is mostly just speculation about Tether FUD.

This thread seems dead. Why?

I could think of several reasons:
1. Bitfinex abandoned the thread years ago, which disincentivizes people from posting about their problems or from bringing up suggestions
2. In the last months the few discussions mainly took place between a few people, who were more or less concerned about the Tether situation (mayax, Samarkand)
and a few people, who thought/think that everything is fine and all Tether rumors are just FUD (TheQuin, Quickseller)
3. Bitfinex has a minimum deposit of 10k $ for new accounts, which is a huge barrier for many newbies, who were looking to invest an amount like 100 $
4. Many posters simply just left Bitcointalk, because the overall forum quality decreased

Bitfinex abandoned this forum a long time ago. Try r/BitcoinMarkets and/or Twitter as they will not see anything posted here.

Thanks for the info, there's more to this than just FUD, fear, uncertainty and fear, it's much bigger, this sell off may get bloody.

I've read it, interesting that Bitfinex didn't announce anything about the CFTC, not that they would.

...

They might not be allowed to do so if it was a secret subpoena.

Wikipedia:

Secret subpoenas, such as those covered under 18 U.S.C. §2709(c) of the USA
Patriot Act, provide criminal penalties for disclosing the existence of the warrant to
any third party, including the service provider's users.

A Bitfinex employee actually made use of a warrant canary in December.
If you are interested in the details you could read this post I made in the Wall Observer
Thread earlier today:

I'm guessing the CFTC stepped in when Tethers went over $2B in a matter of days, they were creating more USDT than the Federal Reserve creates USD.
...

Have you read the updated version of the Bloomberg article or the posts by gentlemand?
The subpoena was delivered on the 6th of December.

The majority of Tether issuance has happened after that date.
Therefore the CTFC has stepped in when the outstanding amount
of USDT was roughly ~800M $.

Well they fucked up when they used USDT and said it was pegged to the USD (FRN) while creating them out of thin air.

I'm guessing the CFTC stepped in when Tethers went over $2B in a matter of days, they were creating more USDT than the Federal Reserve creates USD.

Federal law prohibits alternative currencies intended to circulate nationally (+ internationally) if they are misrepresented as legal US tender.

For all you panickers, the subpoena was likely to have been actually delivered several weeks ago. Interesting timing to let it slip when giant and irrational shorts were taken out a few days ago.
