Any news on allowing liquidity providers ("lenders") to extend deadlines of their outstanding loans?

This! So much this!
I suggested this as well, here and via mail, it was to be considered..
This would help all: the providers get more continuous rates, the lenders have more security, the platform gets more fees from more liquidity! It shouldn't even be that much work under-the-hood to implement this?

Similar idea, with all the benefits:
When a margin trader closes (part of) a position, let him keep the -now free- liquidity, and put it back into his "unused funds". To use it again, or to release it manually.

Giancarlo,
I asked this before, but I don't think there was an answer:
Are the "Unused Swaps" and the actual "Margin swaps" both, a subject of 1 hour minimum charge to trader?
I assume they are and they should be and I can explain why.
Thanks

They are.

Have a good day

Hello Bitfinex and all traders!

BitcoinSites.org just reviewed your exchange, you can check it here: http://bitcoinsites.org/bitfinex/

Thanks for listing us.
On another note removing MtGox from the platform listing would probably be a good idea.

Thank you and have a good day

Hello,
Bitfinex provides lot of functionality, but there are few things i'm not sure I understand.

what exactly these order types mean? (Limit, Market, Stop, Trailing stop, Fill or Kill)
where can I read more on these, any guides? or can someone explain?

also if you guys could recommend good modern book on trading I'd be very happy Smiley

Regards

There you go: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Order_%28exchange%29

But I don't wanna be a party-pooper --> If you don't know the basics, you will get killed on trading with professionals. Bitfinex is providing services to professional forex/stock traders and they know exactely what they do. If you try to have an edge trading against them, you will have a bad time.

(Sorry)

I've turned my 2.5 BTC to 4 since you've answered to my post. I guess I need to learn more about this stuff. I like it Cheesy

You will eventually lose everything!
Well, at least there's a good chance for the average user to lose a position at some point. The secret is to calculate that in, and not have *all* in one position. It happened several times before that the exchange rate drops by 80%.
I don't want to sound too much like a teacher here, as I have too much at stake too, was too close to being liquidated too, and in my history of Bitcoin speculation lost my share as well. It's all that old greed'n'fear game, eh?

Nevertheless: Congratulations on your success! :-)

It was discussed in another thread that on the login screen entering the username/email, password, and OTP all on the same page is more secure than entering the username and password first and then being directed to a second page where you enter the OTP.

The reason being is if someone is trying to hack your account and they enter the username and password on the first page and then are directed to the second page for the OTP, they know they have entered the correct username/password combination.
If all three fields are on the same page and only one is entered incorrectly then the user doesn't know which field is correct and which is incorrect.

This could be a small change we could consider.  My last suggestion didn't seem to get much support, maybe this one will?

Peace

My money, my decisions, my risk.

I wouldn't for example take money from friends (or "investors" for that matter) and deposit it on their behalf on Bitfinex, managing a larger portfolio and taking a cut from the profits... it would be possible of course to do that, but I would not feel comfortable with it. On the other hand I do not really discuss this stuff with others. Some people act a bit smug/concerned when they hear "Bitcoin has crashed" to which I usually reply "to the value it had half a year ago - so what?", but that's about it actually.

Yep, had this discussion twice in the last days.
Thanks Mark.
Oh, and those discussions might even be tougher with females ;-)

Flashrate is fine, it is those stupid people that put in "market orders" for lending out money and even renewing them at laughable rates without actually looking at the current market situation.

I am all for keeping the flashrate option for those who want it and I have used it myself in some rare cases. You want to go vacation at that cabin with no internets/electric/indoor toilet for a few weeks, what do you do? you autolend at flash return rate.  Cheesy

Unrelated, I had a interesting discussion with my brother regarding Bitfinex today. It went somewhat like this..

- MtGox went bust, the same thing could happen to Bitfinex. You should withdraw all your funds from there and move them to your safe local bank-account.
- I do not consider my local EU bank account "safe", I think my funds are safer at Bitfinex.
- But MTGOX!
- Bitfinex is not MtGox.
- Well you should move funds out of there anyway, move half immediately. A bank account is much safer. It is backed by the government. The government loves you.
- No.
- But you could lose all your money if you keep it at Bitfinex. All of it.
- If you think I should diversify my trading stuff then I would rather move 1/3 to the chinese bitcoin exchange Okcoin and 1/3 to the chinese bitcoin exchange Huboi where my funds are safer than in a local bank account where my local fascist government can decide to confiscate it for sharing political views or no reason what so ever at any time.
- But your government loves you. Government keeps your money safe. Also, all Bitcoin exchanges are like MtGox,  specially those in China.
- Thank you for you opinion, want to play some chess now?

Anyone else have problems explaining to their family why on earth they would have any funds at Bitfinex since it's apparently MtGox and a disaster waiting to happen?

I had numerous discussions, but all ended with them agreeing with rational.

Just point out to them that you calculated a certain % loss probability into your return and it is still a much better investmnet strategy than not keeping some funds there. But like the saying goes, don't go allin on just one thing. Wink

Sukrim: You got some advice for a beginner?

What is the best way to do lending.

Autor enewal with flash rate? for short periods like 7 days or for 30 days?

Depens hugely on the time you want to spend into optimizing your rate.

Optimal would be to lend at a price where "lending spikes" take your order but not much lower. Then you activate the email notification when the loan is canceld. Now you do that again and again. If rates are comperatively low, you can user 2-7 days lending, if they spike just use 30 days and hope that people don't close loans and replace them with better rates.

Suboptimal -> 30 days FRR with autolend
