Wouldn't say abolished. But I agree that it should be about the sports and the athletes. Not the nations or politics. And as others said not forced on people who can't pay for it.

There are many obsessive people in the world. The type that would kill over ideology. Sports gives them something to focus on and live and die for. I'm talking about fans not athletes. And in that sense sports are a good thing. A great distraction for dangerous people.

More like distract them from doing things that could change society. And maybe challenge the people in power. So like religion. A way to divide and control people. Keep them distracted from important things but as part of the ingroup.

Why destroy something that brings so much joy to the world for so many. Huh

We should not bother about the mad rambling from the vocal minority. More than 99% of the world population supports Olympics, and it is here to stay.

99%, are you sure?
I'd say 40% and that's a gross estimate. Also the olympics are theoretically more than 2,000 years old but they're actually about 100 years old, and they've already been interrupted twice because of world wars. They can be cancelled again, without making a fuss.

No!  That is the only time were countries from all over the world gathered together peacefully.  There are no issue of nuclear weapon, killings, or territory disputes.  It is the only way you could see countries aide from pageants that gather together with warm hearts and peaceful atmosphere.  Everyone were very happy and all for the one goal.  They are their not for differences of culture and beliefs but for showing everyones capabilities and strength.  By the way, Prime Minister Abe was so cute when he came out with a Super Mario outfit.

Yeah Olympics has been there when while you are not still on the womb of your mother. And it has been on tradition that it is going to be done for years. And this is just giving the sports industry the importance so that athletes are going to be encourage to pursue more their athletic career. I disagree if someone protests to abolished Olympics.

Say a guy from Italy always won and a guy from Britain always comes fourth..The guy from Italy because of no nation will always have the support..
Now because the guy from Britain who always comes fourth will be the best in his nation he will get support other wise he will get no support..

No adverts in is nation no sponsor's no one would care only for the winner..
When it's for your nation then your nation cares no matter how good you are..

So if we done it your way not much money would float around the sport world..
Like sponsors from big businesses for the athletes to do it full time to be the best at what they do..

Athletes try to be the best to make themselves RICH Get paid fast..
Not working for 50 years in a dead end job for 35k a year scraping by..Be famous and get rich quick..THEN YOUR COUNTRY  Grin

I'd love that! Less money and less advertising in sports. It would probably be less professional but what's wrong with that?
You shall also think of all the people without a country, and those who don't like their country. To millions olympics is a show between foreigners without any interest.
I will tell you what's wrong..
POINT 1..Humans wont move forward in our physical being..Like faster stronger smarter..

POINT 2..So many sports out there anyone's child can become a sports star if they try hard enough.
If you really want it..SPORTS is so many more doors open to get out of poverty for our children..
No sports lots more poor people..Who would never get a chance to be rich?..

How many sports stars have come from nothing and i mean nothing..
Footballers from AFRICA ..So poor they live in a straw hut..Now they play football run and so on..
NO MORE STRAW HUT..And all his family lifted out of poverty?..

I even agree with mind sports competition to see who the smartest child in the world..
All helps toward making better humans..Smarter faster stronger..

Always remember these sports that make you money are there for your children to be the best and become rich..Sports is for everyone if you can handle the sweat blood and tears to be the best at what you do..
Just think of all the poor people who become good at there chosen sport who are now doing well in life because of sports Grin Grin Grin..

Without sports competitions at the highest level life would be POOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.. Grin

And last point..It's in our nature to be competitive...

The Olympic games presents an opportunity for athletes around the world to compete against each other, and to show their skills. It is a display of diversity and sportsmanship. Only retards would favor banning the Olympics. It is true that a lot of money and effort is being spent... but at least it is put in to something worthwhile.

Yes it showcases the strength of each athletes from different parts of the world.  It is nice to see different looks, different colors, different height, from different countries with one goal.  The goal to win and represents their countries.  I love seeing that even they cannot understand each other, they understand the meaning of sportsmanship.

Athletes also do not make it to the Olympics on their own.

Many have have been talent spotted at a young age then taken through various state funded training programs at state funded facilities.

They are there through a team effort with large a support group group behind them.

If they banned any athletes then we would not know what their potential would of been in the games. That is a pity to say the least. Embarrassed

That's my wish. I don't want to see athletes competing at the olympics in front of their country's flag, I want to see them competing against each other, without anyone knowing the citizenship of the others. Sports without politics...
It's first about yourself then your country..
To be the best in the whole world at what you do in your chosen sport..
Now imagine no countries.. Athletes raced with no flag..

Say a guy from Italy always won and a guy from Britain always comes fourth..The guy from Italy because of no nation will always have the support..

Once we remove the politics from Olympics, everything will be fine. It is the political interference which is destroying the Olympics.

Thanks, I like to see I'm not the only one. What unites all of us here is BTC, which doesn't have any kind of link to any country or nation. Sports should be like that too, just like everything else.

This is also a problem, some countries use the Olympic Games in order to send some kind of political message, in the past there were boycotts and that kind of stuff and that turned off my interest in the games.

As far as I know, the Olympic Games lose money despite all the merchandising, since the games use tax payers money they should be abolished or downsized to a more manageable level.
This money waste happens only in case of country's without proper infrastructure.
Unfortunately this is what is happening most of the time...
Why bother throwing Olympics in highly developed area with all the stadiums
and hotels when you can organise it in 3rd word? Wasting tremendous amount of cash on unfair public deals and auctions. Its really beyond me, the IOC is basically promoting corruption and fraud in weaker areas of our planet. This is what needs to be abolished.

Well, the London 2012 games lost money, if my memory does not fail me, so the games are too expensive even for the first world countries, because of that I mantain my position, don't host the games or the games need to become smaller.
they all lose money its considered an honor to have them

I get what you mean, but it doesn’t change the fact that the games should be profitable, they are not using private funds, they are using the taxpayer’s money, in fact there were a lot of protests in Brazil because people thought, with good reason, that money could have been used for better things.
