If nationalism is not important then why did your country fight back, why not just give up and let the invading army take over?

Quote
They're all the same. Soldiers, athletes and supporters at the olympics not because they like sport, but only for their country's glory.

And you base this statement on what facts?  Surely people become interested in sport and dedicate their lives to it to reach that level because they love their chosen sport and not some "countries glory"

My country didn't fight back, I was a foreigner working there, and as a witness, I've seen plenty of people fighting, killing and dying because of nationalism. And it keeps on going in several places in the world...

Those playing at the olympics have chosen to represent a country. Sports doesn't ask you that. At the end of the show, each country will count its medals and most will forget the very real people who got them. The winners will be countries. Real sports doesn't involve countries, I gave earlier the example of tennis at Wimbledon, that's real sports.

Cancel the Olympic Games, this is complete nonsense! Why cancel the Olympic Games? Olympic Games provide an opportunity to compete for people without arms. Other people, when they watch the Olympics, get a lot of positive emotions.

they all lose money its considered an honor to have them

Have you ever gone to an Olympic game? Don't, and you will have abolished them for yourself. Let others be free to do what they want.

Olympics don't need to be removed and it was not the war just a competition between countries although it held only for an advertising campaign of a country with indirectly.

Of course they are like war. Everyone is at war at the moment. You buy Bitcoin, you support bitcoin against the other currencies in the war. You buy coca-cola, you are in a war with pepsi. You support Realmadrid, you support their cause against Barcelona. Russia wins a golden, they won a battle against USA.

They're like war, really. Only without guns. Sport isn't nation against nation, it's athletes against other athletes. Let the best guys win, and let's forget the stupid, stinking, blood-tainted flags behind them.

yeah, I agree. they're like war, there will be the winner and the loser, but it's kind of peace war. we don't need to fight physically (except karate and kind of thing), but we fight based on the rules.

but sometimes this game grows kind of anger when someone doesn't win, and they will come back in the next competition to revenge  Grin

As far as I know, the Olympic Games lose money despite all the merchandising, since the games use tax payers money they should be abolished or downsized to a more manageable level.
This money waste happens only in case of country's without proper infrastructure.
Unfortunately this is what is happening most of the time...
Why bother throwing Olympics in highly developed area with all the stadiums
and hotels when you can organise it in 3rd word? Wasting tremendous amount of cash on unfair public deals and auctions. Its really beyond me, the IOC is basically promoting corruption and fraud in weaker areas of our planet. This is what needs to be abolished.

Indeed fact no, they always lose money because Olympic commission keeps the profit and give only a small budget to the city welcoming the games. But it's only because they're assholes, on overwhole it makes huge profit!

I give you my 100% agreement, in my opinion it is more like Gladiator fights, not the wars, but still, it is far from civilisation.

Abolish the Olympics because they are "like war with the guns", really? Isn't that a good thing when every country takes part in something, competing with each other, sharing a bond and brotherhood thru it all? All that without killing each other. But I could agree to abolish it for different reasons because of the politics behind it and it is wasting tax payers' money.
Dude he said without a guns not with guns.

Well, that is olympics they are not representing their ownself. They are playing to represent their country more than their self. If its like a war for you then that was the good war ive seen since there are no killing happening and with entertainment/fun.

Well, the London 2012 games lost money, if my memory does not fail me, so the games are too expensive even for the first world countries, because of that I mantain my position, don't host the games or the games need to become smaller.

No I did not invent "Generation Snowflake" its quite well known - google it.

There is not one game that involves guns - there are 10 in the list I posted.

If nationalism is not important then why did your country fight back, why not just give up and let the invading army take over?

Why stop at the olympics, why not football or any other major sport.  How about the eurovision song contest lol

A prime example of generation snowflake   Roll Eyes Roll Eyes Roll Eyes

p.s. there also several shooting events in the olympics that use guess what .... guns.

The olympics are the largest event so they should go first, but all sports which are nation-related should go too. I forgot one game involves guns, but that's minor, and it's not my point. I had never heard of a generation snowflake, I suppose you invented that, but I'm certainly not one of them. I'm not young and I've seen that nationalism can kill. I remember one of my best friend. I found him one evening lying in front of his house, dead with blood all around. Nobody has been arrested. The men who killed him are free. I don't think they will kill again because the war is over, but I imagine them watching the olympics and cheering for their national team. They're all the same. Soldiers, athletes and supporters at the olympics not because they like sport, but only for their country's glory.

I don't think so.
You probably don't know story behind start of ancient Olympic games in Greece.
In Greece, long time ago, around 3 000 years, Olympic games was like real peace festival and celebration.
All wars and conflicts was forbidden during Olympic games.
In modern history, Olympic games came as idea to recover this ''spirit'' from ancient Greece and bring people together, make modern festival and celebration of peace.
Olympic idea had good and bad moments until now but still this idea brings many people together and sharing ideas about cooperation, peace and tolerance.
Such values we still need in our societies.
