And this black october/october coup was only beginning of Yeltsin's "democracy". In fact, Yeltsin surpassed Andropov and Brezhnev in terms of blood on his hands. So no surprise that he got all these heart attacks.

As far I remember, there are few schemes defined by constitution and federal laws on self-governing. Appointment by the president with approval by the local parliament, unanonimous election by the parliament from the set of offered candidates, unanonymous election by the local parliament or anonymous election by locals of district [city, republic or whatever]. Exact scheme is defined by the regional statutory document.

Right now ER has a majority, of course, but there are communist and LDPR governors, mayors, MPs... Just one example, mayor of Novosibirsk (3rd largest city) is a member of communist party.

ER supports him, but it's not "his" party. It was founded by Boris Berezovsky, a dead friend of Mikhail Khodorkovsky, and funded by him from the beginning... Many people still think that large stake is still owned by his cronies. So I'd say that it's a party of oligarchs rather than Putin himself.

As far I remember, ER lost 17% of seats in the parliament after 2011 parliamentary elections. So, never say never, everything is possible.

Yeah, here, in Russia, everywhere are agents of KGB / FSB.
There is no courts system, no democracy.
There is one Political party -  "Edinaya Rossiya" - control everything what is not controlled by Putin yet.

Putin took 3rd presidential term ( 8 years + 4 years = 12 years ( in the real, 16 years ) ). Hope, KGB will trying to come up anything with 4th. Otherwise, this will be the logical "Happy End" of current democracy totalitarian state. Yeltsin's democracy completely converted into one branch. Putin making decision about Mayors of all big cities, Governors of all regions. As I say, his political party has >50%, and nobody can stop this.
