personally i would choose the gtx 1660 super even if it has only 6 gb of ram it is enough for most altcoins is newer / more modern and maybe it consumes a little less energy

580s consume more electricity than 1660 super and their hashpower is the same, I will surely go for the 1660 super because they generate less heat and more efficient than AMD rx580.
Now these video cards are very expensive and they are already outdated, and after the end of ethereum mining, they will lose in mining to modern video cards. Now is a bad time to buy, and after the price cuts, I would choose modern video cards.

I'm seeing rx580 graphic cards on Alibaba website right now for the price of 300$ do you think this is high? very soon price will collapse because mining isn't profitable like before, in few more months mining difficulty will tumble as many mining machine will go offline.
If the delivery time is about a month, then it can be expensive for video cards whose condition you cannot check. You may be sent problematic video cards that require repair. It is better to buy such video cards only after checking in China.

Between a gtx 1660 super and rx580 8gb which one is good for 2022 mining? I heard ETH is going away but I still have interest in mining coins for 2024 sake so I will hold every coins I'm going to make starting from now, which one is the best?
i think is similiar result in profit with differential algo that support, while nvidia is easier to handle, and some people said, nvidia has longer lifespan compared amd,

which is i experienced this in polaris series aka rx 400/500, thats gpu build for value card not highend device, other amd series like tahiti & vega consider high end card

and tend to be longer lifespan
The reason why NVIDIA cards have longer life span than AMD is because Nvidia cards runs cooler than AMD GPUs, they produce less heats than AMD cards and as we know it heat is the real enemy of graphic cards, the lesser the heat the longer its life
AMD cards are programmed to run hotter and this doesn't shrink their life spans, if any AmD card die on you it's a bad card or no good ventilation where your mining rig is, AMD cards are strong.

I would choose 1660 super

Easier to overclock, only memory clock and power limit, 15 minutes you can have your card running
6Gb is enough until early 2024
ETH delayed again the difficulty bomb until July 2022, so there's time to make some money
1660 consumes less power and generate less heat

Just be sure to not overpay the gpu
same
coins have varying lower limit on gpu gb size needed, i'd stick to 6gb+ cards. google "dag size calculator". as a newb that learns quickly, grab a 1660 super. they’re reasonably priced and will get you 30MH/s each.

Wait for news from Ethereum developers in January 2022. A profit of $ 1.5 per day from a video card will not allow you to accumulate a lot of coins. The gtx 1660 super uses less power and I would prefer to buy this graphics card, but not at current prices.
For some reason, it seems to me that next year there will be a massive sale of mining equipment.

Many mining rigs will go offline, a 30MH GPU can give only 1$ per day or even less but the quantities of the coins will be more, I'm not sure about Ethereum but I'm certain about coins like ravencoin, ergo and others, I will also prefer the 1660s over the AMD they tend to support more algorithms than ETH
For a long time, a profit of 1 dollar a day was a very good result for a video card with a hash rate of 1 megahash and a consumption of 100-120 watts.
You quickly forgot the time when this profit was less than 20 cents, and many miners turned off their farms and sold video cards.

What? You can´t say this, it depends from GPU to GPU. My RX6600XT´s running with 15% fan and 48°C. Nvidia RTX cards with GDDR6X have sometimes vram overheat problems.
My old RX570 rigs run now for over 4years without problems, and my Nvidia P106 rigs also.

No joke i wonder how fmz89 explains all the R9 290 / 390 some of which have been mining since 2013.....   And yet fails to see how many 30XX cards will fail due to extremely high temps on GDDR6X.

Wait not all RTX 30** are using the gddr6x I heard, my 3070ti is using gddr6x but not my 3060s and 3060ti, they use normal gddr6 without the 'x', also what makes you think they will fail? I've been using my 3070ti to mine ETH for months now and all I need to keep tab on is the mem temp which is hashing away at 80-85°C

I would always go for the newer GPU architecture when possible, same hash rate but better efficiency from the GTX 1660 Super. There is not much to think about,6 GB is still good for some time to come as been said until 2024 and even if ETH mining goes away (which I highly doubt it) the 1660 S can perform better in RVN mining and with less power consumption,so this is better compared with the RX 580,that 580 has an old 2016 or 2017 architecture don't remember now.
It doesn't matter anymore since ETH pow mining won't even last long till DAG file reach 6GB so yes 1660s with 6gb vram are good buy for many other altcoins than AMD cards, I believe that Nvidia cards supports more algorithm than AMD, the only AMD that's better is HBM2 memory AMD cards like Vega 56

When you have the right RX580 they can consume less than a 1660 super with the same hashrate. I have a XFX RX580 (hynix) consume 66 Watt versus my 1660 super wich consumes 72 watt. But my Micron Saphire nitro RX580 consume around 100 watt. This is measured in HiveOS.
I hope you measure that from wall? No rx580 can mine crypto at 66watt that's fake, use watt meter to measure the electricity consumption from wall, only 1660s consume 60watts from wall not rx580

As i said i took the values from the HiveOS software. I know it's not the real consumption but if the RX580 is taking 66Watt and the 1660s is consuming 71Watt the RX580 is consuming less energy although its not its real value.
