I'm having the exact same problem, It freezes even when a flash video comes up ... its very annoying! I just got two new cards and I'm using 11.5 and it freezes. I really hope they fix it soon.

P.S. I can't make a new topic/reply to the AMD forums ... so I hope people keep reporting the issue. =/

I got a lot of crashes using the 11-3 driver.  So many that I had to stop mining as soon as I started using my PC.  Last week I upgraded to 11-5 and haven't had a crash since.  It probably isn't fixed completely but 11-5 certainly made it better for me.

I am also experiencing this issue on my 6950's. AMD updated the forum post with "Our engineers are currently working on the problem." So hopefully this will be resolved with future drivers.

I'm having this problem too (it wasn't happening with the 4870 I just switched out) and I'm wondering if this is unique to poclbm and certain miners or if it plagues all miners.

all opencl programs

What is the last known 'stable' driver set in regards to this issue?

11.5 and 11.5a cause problems in all appz. so i rolled back to 11.4.
yes, they improve OpenGL driver considerably, improve CPU saturation for Direct3D appz and boost 2-5 FPS in some games, but at cost of IQ inconsistency and more agressive LoD comression[even with turned off "Catalyst AI" "features"].
if you need new OpenGl, just use signed dll from 11.5 WHQL with 11.4 WHQL driver.

u saying that with 11.4 the windows will not crash?

Bump. 11.5 is out, so is a 11.5a hotfix (for mouse lag problems).

Can someone please test if it still locks up with the new drivers?

Still a problem.

Is there a fix for this yet?

Doesn't work with latest 11.4, so pray they fix it in next one Smiley

Just disable any video hardware acceleration and you are fine, also don't use directx 11( not sure about directx10, directx9 works fine). Those will make system crash when combined with openCL.

Yep I think that's the safe route to take. I plan to just stop mining altogether when gaming. I really don't like crashes and rebooting for me is  such a big pain in the ass because I got like 20+ different applications running at once.

Does 11.4 improve speeds a bit over 11.3? I have doubts, but thought I'd ask.

It's really lame that you have to do this, but *shrug* I do hope it's only a temporary solution. After all what good (other than mining) is a fancy pants video card with super duper whizbang video acceleration and other such newfangled technology if you CAN'T use it.

Downloaded VLC and went through every setting on "simple" and "advanced"-mode unticking anything that would remotely use gfx hardware/memory...

And it works now to watch videos!

Have 6950 1GB version and same problem.

Fixed flash issues with disabling the acceleration from right clicking flash and unticking it. I also unticked hardware acceleration from firefox 4 settings.

But I still have trouble trying to watch videos... Is there any video player that doesn't want any help from gfx card?

Hope for fix x-x

Same problem with my 6950 and this is the main reason I don't mine when I actually want to use my computer.
For flash objects if you right click, go to settings and uncheck "enable hardware acceleration" it shouldn't use your gpu any longer. Could be a problem if your cpu isn't powerful enough render full screen flash videos though.
It will still crash with hardware acceleration disabled in flash. I guess the problem is more related to the video overlay than UVD itself?

Apparently, the 6990 (with catalyst 11.3) locks up too, but it can perform a driver reset and recover without rebooting. It is still not possible to watch movies + do gpgpu apps together, however.

no changes still hangs,

they include amdocl.dll version 2.4.595.9 in 11.3 and in 11.4 released on 23th march

i see ~5000 khash/s drop with 6950 comparing to amdocl.dll 2.4.595.0 that is included in 7th march 11.4

11.3 are not worth downloading from mining point of view

http://support.amd.com/us/kbarticles/Pages/Catalyst114earlypreview.aspx

but as for 23th march 11.4 - significant improvement there  Tongue - it now hangs instantly (i could move cursor for around for 10 sec with 7th march 11.4, 11.3 & 11.2)
