The flip side is that nobody can force those teams in the bottom 6 or 7 positions of each of the English leagues to play their games beyond 30th June 2020 for the current season. They obviously do not want to fight in a relegation battle and prefer to have it voided.

Liverpool are two wins away from winning the Premier League for the first time in their history (and win the top tier for the first time in 30 years) so they would want to play it out.

The new season for 2020/21 starts in the first week of August. Keeping in mind the fixture list for each and every season I am totally against starting the next season late but I reluctantly prefer extending this season to finish the games as a final option. Is there going to be enough time between the Premier League and FA giving the go-ahead for fixtures to start and then players being fit enough to actually play those games?

One sensible option might be to find a way to allow games to be played behind closed doors with no spectators but that would mean heavy testing and monitoring of players, coaches and all employees to ensure they are free of coronavirus. Right now it seems along way away.

This season will be completed even if it jeopardises next season. Too many teams would take legal action if this season was cancelled.

Just off the top of my head - Liverpool, Leicester, Sheff Utd, Man Utd, Wolves all have vested interests in completing this season plus Leeds & West Brom in the league below would be beyond upset at not getting promoted.

Easier said than done. The new season 2020/21 starts around 8/9/10 August and the contracts have to be concluded for the following season by 30th June 2020 because players stop getting paid after that.

It will be very difficult to complete the season either domestically in the EPL or European cup competitions.

I noticed it, for me, i think the easiest way out is to forget about league season for 2020/2021.
They should focus on completing this season whenever it ends, play the carling, fac and the champions league and europa league.

Then prepare for euro 2021 proper and the olympics too.

I added the third option, let us see what happens next.

I think the poll needs one more option, to end whenever it is able to be concluded.
No matter how long it takes, i believe its worth the wait.

Just 6 votes so far. Can we please have some more votes in the poll.

I think the season should be voided but others have their own views. Please vote in the poll and post your opinions here.

Premier League 2019/20 Season: What Should Happen Because of Coronavirus Fears?

Voided - no champion & no relegations    - 4 (66.7%)
Use current PL table as the 'final' table    - 2 (33.3%)

I didn't vote in the poll because there is no option I'd rather have which is to continue the season whenever they can, if there premier league football should ever even happen again, then I'm of the opinion that it continue from where it stopped and end the current season.

There are many reasons why the season needs to be concluded by 30th June 2020 at the very latest.

All player contracts will come to an end at that time though extensions can be made to cover this unprecedented global coronoavirus issue.

Many companies and sponsors have their own reasons involving marketing and promotions running in to billions of USD$ which could coincide at the time of a new shirt deal or the launch of a new kit design. Players and their families and agents and many others have time booked for other things (families, holidays, philanthropy) which they cannot do if the season extends beyond 30th June.

Of Premier League clubs still in European competition, Manchester City could end up playing 19 games and both Chelsea and Manchester United could end up playing 18 games if they get to their respective European finals. The games played could be cut by two if UEFA decide to play the quarter-finals and semi-finals as one-off knock out matches instead of home and away legs.

The Premier League brings in billions of USD$ for the clubs through international television rights and sponsorships but if the season is cut short they would want some of their money returned or re-packaged. Things are looking difficult no matter what decisions are made.

All I think is that it’s really good & honourable that they haven’t cancelled the season. It’s good that they’re seemingly giving every chance for us to end this season.

How can there be a fair way to decide who gets relegated from the premier league and who gets promoted from the championship?

There is no need to debate what is fair for all clubs  Smiley, the decision to postpone uero 2020 is enough to answer all means that there is time for the league to finish the match.

The premier league have more matches to play than any to other leagues. I think there is a minimum of two months necessary to play all of the postponed games. In the best optimistic case restart can be on May, so PL can be finished in July. This is in the best case and highly optimistic. It's my opinion based on other cases. Quarantine in China lasts for around three months (as of today, no masks are required in China), in the UK more serious measures were taken only a few days ago. hope it doesn't escalate like in Italy but this hints at a longer period of crisis.

I didn't vote in the poll because I'd rather see neither options seems fair, imo, Liverpool surely has won the title, but there are other positions still up for contention, like the slots for the CL and EL, as well as relegation battle, it doesn't make any sense to just relegate team when they can still fight to earn their stay in the premier league, I'd rather wait to see the season played out fully regardless of how long it takes.

How can there be a fair way to decide who gets relegated from the premier league and who gets promoted from the championship?

There's no fair way asides seeing that all matches get played.

As Liverpool fans, all decisions that are detrimental LFC are unfair and vice versa for other clubs, and there will never be a decision that can make all parties happy, there are always pros and cons.
What needs to be done is to examine before making a decision which makes the most sense and is acceptable to all clubs.

All players have extra free days and enough time to rest in this quarantine days. I think it would be ok if they play on June, Jully to finish all tournaments. He will have a smaller break before the start of the new season but even now they have an unexpected break in March and April.
I still see that they(UEFA) are persistently trying to add Euro in this year. I guess there is a lot of money for them, but the World cup and EURO always negatively reflect on national championships. I hope there will be the reason and will move it to next year if they can't cancel it.

I agree, it would be unfair to Liverpool.

I will go further and say it would also be unfair to Leeds United and West Bromwich Albion who are top of the Championship trying to break in to the premier league.

I think it would also be extremely harsh on Fulham, Brentford, Nottingham Forest and Preston North End who are all in the Championship play-off positions.

I also think it would be extremely unfair to Bristol City, Millwall, Cardiff City, Blackburn Rovers and Swansea City who are all within touching distance of getting in to a Championship play-off position.

Where does it stop? What is the fair way to proceed? How can one team be awarded a winners title or another be relegated or another be promoted in this current climate?

Yes it would be unfair to Liverpool, they have been excellent this season but I would have wanted them to win the premier league title after playing their 38 games like all other teams.

Dude, it's 25 points.

If this season couldn't continue, it's correct that there is no winner or loser a.k.a the season void. However, it feels so unfair to Liverpool.

Look at the premier league table, Liverpool have not mathematically won it yet though there is a case for them being eventual winners.

If the same thing was being discussed that season when Newcastle united were 12 points ahead of Manchester United but in the end Newcastle lost the lead and Manchester United were crowned champions of the premier league - then Newcastle would wrongly have been crowned champions.

I think no relegation/promotion would also be harsh for the ones who are in line for promotion from EFL Championship this season. Their progress so far would become meaningless. I think whatever decision one would choose it would satisfy one but wouldn't be a favorable for other. It's very hard decision to take. Damn't it Corona  Undecided
Yea, they could do no relegation only but still doing promotion, however, it will make a mess for next season.

At least the EFL champions still get the prize money, and they will be stronger with the money.
