Allowed? Yes. Bids by the auctioneer? No. By a third party with the the proxy user disclosing bidding terms with the auctioneer, garnering permission to proxy? Yes, mandatory. Proof of Proxy? PoP, which would be the discussion between the three parties involved MUST be publicly disclosed after auction ends.

Alternatively ... Just have a friend bid it for themselves... Escrow the funds prior or give the funds to said friend directly.

These are the cleanest ways to ensure no fuckery imo.

I would be content with these rules

Also can you run this like killyou72's recent poll and only tally the first 3-4 votes while disrespectfully spelling people's names wrong

No issues, if the proxy member has some history on the forum, otherwise we run into the situation of shill bidding..

Meh.
I just think people shouldn't ask the auctioneer to proxy bid and all is fine. Get another user to do it for you and no issues can happen (Unless your friend is an idiot and they'll bid 10x your initial limit)..

of course it should be allowed.
proxy bidding method has been around a long time in the world of collectible auctions.

Yes it should be allowed. CanaryInTheMine could have just came out and bid 1btc each for coins #1 and #2 but he tried this proxy bidding out to maybe get them for a little bit cheaper. It then turned into somewhat of a game with the 0.XX9BTC bids. Amusing to watch but like I said he could have just came out and bid strong immediately if he really wanted to. Nobody wanted to press him once it got to 1.0BTC so I wonder if that was the height of his proxy bid terms or not.

Disclaimer: Trusted long term members should be able to do this no escrow, if you're a newcomer you'll probably need to escrow your top end bid.

I think it should be allowed. If a forum person asked me to bid on their behalf I will .... end of story. That is between me and him and nobody else. There is nothing wrong with that at all. Its not like I have not seen that done here in the past . Was never an issue then and should not be one now.

I think it has potential for abuse so I say no. I'm ok with what happened in CI's auction, but I dont think it should be open for everyone to do.

Bidding in your own auction using an alt account?

Hey I'm just the new guy voicing his simpleton opinion. I stand by my comment, even if there are still other threats and ways to cheat the system

Edit to add: remember, it wont always be a couple OGs bidding for one another. At some point it will be Fresh account A supposedly bidding for Fresh account B.

I think we're both referring to something different. In 2017 CI was exposed because he used an alt account to drive up the price in his own auctions, which is what I am referring to. Check his trust rating if you want to read thw full explanation.

Yea you're right, I was talking about what happened yesterday on the 10 coin set bids.

Disobey.
It depends. Let's take CI's auction that caused this question to occure. Well CITM is a long time member and has a high trust in the collectible forum, so I wouldn't have a problem with it. If it's a total noob-account that is proxy bid, I feel the same hesitation as with any other noob-account bidding without proxy.
So in general I think proxy-bidding doesn't really bring anything new to the table.
Did I miss something?

Ah I just see, BTCCollector generally wrote what I think including some good pro-proxy points.

Doesn't matter to me. A bid is a bid. Any questionable bids/bidders should be validated by the auction host.

A simple question. Do you think that someone, who cannot be present for the final hours of, or for some other unforeseen reason, be allowed to allocate someone else to bid in their stead?

YES or NO ?

Will this lead to ppl dialing and calling in their bids? Will annoymousminer (sp?) Proxy Services start a successful Proxy auction service?  Could it grow to into a circus?  Cheesy We want to hear from you.

Yes.

Four reasons:
- Bidding is bidding, whether it is proxy or not.  Allowing a larger pool of bidders serves the whole community, including both sellers and buyers.
- I have a normie job that ties me up for key moments during auctions.
- Time zones make some auctions tough for me  (I'm guessing the same for others too).
- People will do it even if it is banned.  Rather than pretend it isn't happening, I'd rather just acknowledge that it can/will happen.

I have no issues with new accounts bidding on an auction, as long as they are verified by the OP or an escrow. What CI did is very scammy and dodgy imo.

This is America, everyone has a right to their opinion.... Smiley  I think that it would be fine if requests are reliable, and made clear PRIOR To an auction starting. I know that there were a lot of folks that weren't thrilled with it being sprung upon them in what was supposed to be the final hour of said auction. Total visibility needs to be a must, from the get go. Otherwise it has a feel of "behind the back" goings on, and fosters a sense of mistrust.
