Read the news about Ethereum and DAO hack, all trade has stoped, plus network is being spammed to prevent further thefts.

Probably your coins are safe but you'll need to wait until trading is resumed.
so,etherum and DAO got hacked?or they being in trouble?why its can happen same time between DAO and etherum?i this doing by same person or team?
i wish its going normal again as soon as possible,i love that two altcoin, for trade of course.

polo is ok. its eth that has problems.

This dammit. This thread title sent me on a wild goose chase for a while as I researched the possibility of poloniex being hacked. It hasn't been, but the dao token protocol has been compromised in some way. So TLDR: poloniex is OK, it has not been hacked.

But on to the dao shit..

Really? It was the biggest freaking crowdsale in recent memory and it had to fuck up like this? We said that was too much money for such an experimental technology (talking about investment vs research and development) and no one listened.

Ethereum is fine, they said, it's the next Bitcoin, they said...

This is definitely the end of them, though holders will take some time to accept it. Digital money only works if the code is secure. If it is not, it's a crap-shoot.

Poloniex is probably trying to stop the dump of Ethereum that is plaguing other exchanges, and considering the value of ETH is down 14% now, it seems like they may have made the right decision, but the day they open the exchange again the value is going to be lower.

Everything is probably fine...

It's already open again.

My missing coins also "arrived" or got unfrozen.

yeah it is so funny they have been trying so hard to prove that ethereum is good and is going to replace bitcoin while it gets hacked!

the funnier part is the desperate eth supporters who have been spamming in the forum especially in speculation board to slow down the dump.... poor mods that have to remove so many spam in that board each day
Well this is definitely going to shake up the ETH trust when it comes to an investor's perspective, and I wouldn't be surprised if there are more dumps on the way on other exchanges. If someone was able to hack the network and steal coins from people without having to get access to a website, I'd say fuck that shit and get out of it. A crypto should never have the network hacked, and if it is, it is a failed crypto. The fundamental security is compromised.

Hey guys,

I'm not saying that poloniex got hacked but all ETH deposits are gone.

I deposited some ETH and blockchain tells me that they went through but they aren't shown in poloniex.

I tried to change my password and it didn't let me.

I thought it's maybe only my account that has got problems... but in the trollbox there are a lot of other people having the exact same issues.

Considering the news that DAO got hacked I feel certain that poloniex got hacked.

It went through.  It's Poloniex witholding everyone's ETH to avoid a major dump.  This could be a request behind the scenes from the Ethereum Foundation itself.

this is one of the biggest reasons that i switched over to BITTREX for all my altcoin tradings. poloniex is too shady and they have been doing a lot of these things that make me not want to trust them at all.

I'll do so too from now.
These are my coins and they have absolute no right to freeze them.

The 'request' comment is just speculation, so only take it with a grain of salt..

In my opinion, Poloniex is still the best altcoin exchange out there.  I have never had any problems so far with them and will still continue to use it.  It is understandable that they froze ETH trading.  This prevents the hacker from dumping the stolen ETH if ever he finds a way to transfer them to Poloniex.

Imagine if Poloniex didn't care.  All ETH holders will be ******.  And guess what?  You yourselves will be asking why there was no freeze order by them.

Yes, this is a good attempt to froze Eth trading for the time being. This will be definitely help Stop from the hacker from dumping the Stolen Eth. Such steps  should be taken by all the exchanges for the betterment of the coins and in general interest of the public.

This is why you don't store your Bitcoins in websites like these.

Or any website for that matter.

Ethereum is spamming the network to slow an attack which was executed on the DAO - Sit tight - some things are happening this may not be Poloniex's fault

Not between the scenes. Vitalik panicked and created a thread on reddit asking for it:

https://www.reddit.com/r/ethereum/comments/4oif2x/dao_attack_exchanges_please_pause_eth_and_dao/

They are acting like central banks. Poloniex froze people's accounts just like central banks do with bailouts. What a scam.

Well, isn't he the lead developer? Why shouldn't he be worried about this?

I don't see the problem in prevent the theft of $60 million...

not only poloniex, other exchanges are doing this too. With the fork comming they could have problems to handle all transactions so i think it's better this.
The trading inside poloniex is still active tho

Read the news about Ethereum and DAO hack, all trade has stoped, plus network is being spammed to prevent further thefts.

What news - can you enlighten those of us who don't have any Ether or DAO?

http://www.coindesk.com/dao-attacked-code-issue-leads-60-million-ether-theft/

Thanks. How can open-source code get over-written like that? Was there no peer review to make it robust? I thought the whole point of making code open source was that everyone could look at it and find flaws?

Yes, saw somewhere that that particular vulnerability has been described in 2015, I guess people didn't pay it enough attention.

You can read everything about this hack and mitigation here: https://www.reddit.com/r/ethereum

That's pretty shoddy. I guess they should have spent less time marketing and more on sorting known bugs. This is a death knell - people accept exchanges etc being hacked because they are localised events, but not the actual code on a contract.

Back to the drawing board for the Next Crypto to Replace Bitcoin!

Is that true ? it is unfortunate. whereas the ETH is one coin was very good, but I guess after this, the price will decline. I think, it really was a great hacker, because he can steal eth very much
ETH seems so good now. Probably it was temporary problem, nothing to worry about.
