i was able to download the app from an external link

I hope this is the start of you getting access to your account. Once you have that access, withdraw all your funds from there and move them to a non-custodial wallet. If you are still actively trading until now, look for the most trusted platforms. Poloniex isn't one of them anymore.

Imagine keeping your funds for many years there. Everything could have gone wrong and all your sacrifices go to waste. Perhaps you started using Poloniex back when it was one of the most trusted. I, too, was a Poloniex user way back in 2016-2017. From the top, Poloniex has since hit the bottom.

If you're using Poloniex from a restricted country, I wonder how you would pass KYC but I wish you all the best. Again, once you can withdraw your funds, do it right away. And learn lessons. Keep only your trading funds on a trading platform. The rest, keep them cold.

Please keep us updated.

Can i trust poloniex?
No you can't
The exchange already has some issues, now like the one this user raise not so long ago: Poloniex Has Not Added 3 Deposits to My Account for 3 Months

i have some funds there, and my account is frozen, they are asking to download the app be able to use funds, wich is very weird, should i contact a lawyer instead?
This should be a wake up call, please move all your funds out of that exchange once you are able to access and unfreeze your accout

I hope this app is legit and not a clone or phishing app.

For your issue, because you can't download the app in playstore probably because of country limitation of the app. On this URL https://poloniex.com/app-download you can download the app (apk) directly on their site which is the best way unlike downloading it from external sources.

Now, since they want you to verify your identity, let's just hope that your nationality or current ID or location will not hinder the verification process knowing you can't access the app in play store for country limitation issue or say banned countries of polo.

I am following this thread and read what you've said above. If you're able to download it from the external link, who gave that to you kindly share the link because there are scammers and hackers that want their victims to download the app that they've made, a copycat to say. If you have downloaded that app that shows with 500k+ users, I guess you're fine but then I'd agree to the suggestion that if you're able to access there, use a better one and move your funds.

I hope that you downloaded the app using link on Poloniex website.

Google closely checks the apps available on its store, so you are less likely to get a malware with an app coming from this source.
I wish that were true. I have reported dozens of fake wallets on the Play Store, and it usually takes them weeks to remove them. The problem is that they don't manually check these apps; instead, they use an automated system. This often results in fake apps appearing on their platform.

It happens on the Apple Store as well, but much less frequently.

I don't think changing his DNS server will be enough to solve his problem to be honest, OP is obviously able to access  https://play.google.com so it can't be a DNS issue. The DNS resolver only translates the domain name part of the URL into the right IP address actually(if it works fine though). It looks more like a geoblocking restriction IMO.
It would be safer to try to use a VPN for accessing and downloading it from the Playstore rather than downloading it from an external unknown source. Google closely checks the apps available on its store, so you are less likely to get a malware with an app coming from this source.

What external link? if it's beyond playstore or poloniex site then that's not a good idea to install that app into your phone it might be a scam or fake Poloniex app.

You can share the link here and let us check if it's legit or not.

Also, take note that Poloniex has had hack incidents before and I don't think it's a bright idea to stay trading on Poloniex so once you can able to withdraw your funds from them better switch to another exchange.

I remember I had the same problem when downloading an application from play store before (I don't remember what application it was) and I could solve the issue by clearing both cache and data from play store storage.
Try that and see if it works for you too.

If it doesn't work I guess your phone's android version may be outdated? Try other devices with up-to-date Android version.
If you can't download an application from play store due to having an outdated version of operating system, you will get an error saying "your device isn't compatible with this version".

Same here Poloniex is accessible on playstore what I think is if you can't find it there when searching for it try changing your play store account or email after that use VPN like other suggestion above, change your DNS to Cloudflare, and try to search it again. Just to bypass the restriction once you download the Poloniex app disable the VPN and log in to your Poloniex account.

and they are asking me to download the app from playstore or from the official website this is the link:
https://poloniex.com/app-download
They want to download to for a quick verification and after that all restrictions will be removed

Did you check the link on the official website they gave you? Even if you can't access the app through the official Google Play Store, Poloniex still offers the option to download the Android APK installation file from their official site. (You will need a smartphone that allows app installation from third-party sources.) However, I'm not sure if this will be helpful if you're from a restricted country.

I no longer use Polo for some years, however, the app seems to work from my location. And the website too.

Prohibited Countries
Afghanistan, Burma, the Chinese Mainland, Crimea, Cuba, Democratic Republic of Congo, Iran, Iraq, Ivory Coast, Libya, Mali, North Korea, Palestine, Somalia, Sudan, Syrian Arab Republic, Yemen, Zimbabwe, the United States and all US Territories (such as American Samoa, Guam, Northern Mariana Islands, Puerto Rico, and US Virgin Islands).

Prohibited Countries for Futures
Afghanistan, Burma, Burundi, the Chinese Mainland, Crimea, Cuba, Democratic Republic of Congo, Iran, Iraq, Ivory Coast, Libya, Mali, Morocco, North Korea, Palestine, Somalia, Sudan, Syrian Arab Republic, Yemen, Zimbabwe, the United States and all US Territories (such as American Samoa, Guam, Northern Mariana Islands, Puerto Rico, and US Virgin Islands).

OP, please takes a look to this list. Is your location in there by chance? If so maybe you should try your luck with a VPN or proxy and get your money out.
If your country is not on the list, maybe try from another device / internet provider...?

I am trying to download poloniex app from playstore but i can't find it there, was removed from playstore by google?
they did something wrong?
Can i trust poloniex?
i have some funds there, and my account is frozen, they are asking to download the app be able to use funds, wich is very weird, should i contact a lawyer instead?

You could have posted some screenshot or something so that we could have known exactly what the issue is about.
I am able to access the application on playstore and so the issue is most probably with your geographical location.
May be the application is restricted in your area and so you are unable to access the app.

I would recommend not to use poloniex because it has some negative reviews on google.
Few users have had their funds frozen and so may be you can try other reputed exchanges like binance.

And there is no other way to do a verification other than downloading their app? Thats sound weird to be honest.

By the way, I can access Poloniex app just fine so yeah its definitely caused by your location. If it isn't a secret, from where are you exactly? I am asking because here we have communities form all over the world so maybe there is your local board where you could get more info about your problem.

Just to be clear here, how did you get your account funded in the first place before you were asked to download the Poloniex Exchange app? I hope you have not been scammed by all these scammers who are good at cloning an exchange website and using it to scam their victims.

If it's the exchange web account you used, then why will they ask you to download the app before you are allowed to make some withdrawals? It also looks like it's wired to me too.

What does this link show you?: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.plunien.poloniex&hl=en

I can access the above link just fine, which means they didn't remove the app from the app store but it's possible that they are restricting the app from certain locations, and that's why you cannot find it by searching for it.

As to whether you should be using the exchange then it's up to you but I personally would feel more comfortable using something more reputable such as OKX, or Bybit.

Maybe the error should be from your end; either way, you are trying to access it from a country that might have restrictions on its download, which might lead to the Play Store not allowing you to have access to it.

I still checked from my end, and I can still see it both on my App Store and Play Store. You can still try using the download link directly from the Poloniex website, which can take you to Play Store, and if your country restricts you from accessing it, then you will be notified by Play Store.
