Finally we Ponzis have their own section and gambling one will be easily readable and usable again.

May I close this thread someway?

I'm mainly a gambling section reader on this forum but find thal lately my favourite section is polluted by all these ponzi's.
As I don't think they are technically "gambling" I feel they should be parted from that section.
If it was at me I'd put them all in an apposite section with a disclaimer on the top explaining to everyone who is accessing that section how Ponzi's work: even if it is generally well known we can't exclude unwary people may fall for it without having the full knowledge.

Am I the only one who has had enough of them?

One solution is to ignore them, I must admit I am not often in the gambling forum anyway.

Never seen so much support for another board so where is it? What needs to happen for it to take affect ?

Well I did propose that we initiate trial boards as an option in the new forum
Looks like this is a very strong case of one that the community would want.

https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/trial-board-function-851662

Not to many people check the new forum software area though (But got Back to H@C's question from a few months ago he-he)

Wasn't aware of your old suggestion, thanks for sharing.
Can't agree more on what you state there. good job.

The only one making money off them is the first few people who send money if there lucky.

The only one making money off them for sure are .... their creators

Yes of course , at the end it is obviously that a ponzi scheme will scam. I think this is the correct definition on what means "ponzi scheme" :

"A Ponzi scheme is an investment fraud that involves the payment of purported returns to existing investors from funds contributed by new investors. Ponzi scheme organizers often solicit new investors by promising to invest funds in opportunities claimed to generate high returns with little or no risk. In many Ponzi schemes, the fraudsters focus on attracting new money to make promised payments to earlier-stage investors to create the false appearance that investors are profiting from a legitimate business."

I 100% agree these sites need there own section. There starting 5-10 new ponzi sites a day and it is just starting to clutter the forum. The only one making money off them is the first few people who send money if there lucky.

There is currently a big ponzi hype as the creators of ponzis are making money from the ponzi, and other people see and copy them as they want to make money from a ponzi too. I think this is a trend and it will go away soon, (hopefully) no need for a separate subforum.

No I dont escrow anymore.
Personally, I am waiting for the thread complaining about all the threads in Meta complaining about all the threads about ponzis in gambling.

You are right on this....my bad I posted without reading meta section first. I apologize

Its probably best to close this thread. While its the first time I read something from Stunna on the subject and I value his input, this discussion is all over the board currently. There are threads in the gambling section whether a "Ponzi game" can be fair in the first place. There are discussions here about the trust those running these "games" receive and there are many voices asking for a subboard.

The flood of ponzi threads in the gambling section are annoying.  However, the guidelines for the gambling thread read:  Gambling and all "investments" that are so risky they might as well be gambling (HYIPs, pyramid schemes, etc.).  So they are in the right place.

Personally, I am waiting for the thread complaining about all the threads in Meta complaining about all the threads about ponzis in gambling.

While I am sympathetic to all the people who will lose money to these scams it's not like there are not people posting in almost every thread that they are scams and people will lose, so I can't think people are so clueless as to not know their coins are at massive risk if they play.  However, I am amazed at their recent "success."

Another way to stop this spam/scams would be to have some kind of minimum amount of activity requirement before people can create a new thread in the gambling section. No this would not stop the ponzi scams entirely but it would slow them down.

The return of the newbie jail has been discussed as well over several threads and for the sake of spammless subsections of various kinds. The staffs opinion seems to be that it would do more harm to legitemate newbies than it does to prevent anything. Those willing will find a way, those that just want to find their place here might not stay because they feel entrapped in the newbie section.
I would say that newbies could still reply to existing threads throughout the forum. Like I said this would only slow down the rate of newbie scams but it would be somewhat of a speedbump. I don't think this small chance would deter new users from joining/participating in our community
No this would not stop legit users from joining our community because realistically no one is going to join our community and immediately start any kind of bitcoin casino that operates in a legit fashion

Someone running a legit casino might create a new account for the sake of it. I think you are jumping to conclusions here.
I would think a casino would have greater chances of succeeding if they leveraged an existing reputation they have built up to start a new casino. If they plan on acting honestly then they should have no problem staking their existing reputation on the line for their casino.

I think they should all be deleted, not just moved to their own section. The forum is facilitating the scamming of thousands of coins from less bright individuals who think they can make easy money and are shocked when they later get scammed. There is no entertainment value in these games, they are just designed to rob funds from random users who are greedy or stupid enough to invest in such a high risk scheme.

Many operators of gambling sites myself included have been discussing forming our own gambling forum. Gambling is a major use of bitcoin and a very popular section on this forum and it's simply impossible to have a productive community that is flooded with scams.

Right now I'm wrestling with the idea of whether or not I should negative trust all ponzi operators if they do classify themselves as a "ponzi"

While I understand your frustration there is a big difference between a ponzi scheme and a ponzi game. Something is a ponzi scheme if the operators are claiming they get their profits from some other sort of business. A ponzi game that tells exactly how things work and that they are not investing any money is just another form of gambling if done right. Although I do agree that a lot of these operators are scammers but the same could be said for other gambling sites, exchanges, securities etc. You're gambling forum sounds interesting though and I'm sure it could be a big success you should consider doing it if you want stricter rules. I'm involved in the gambling space (not just bitcoin) and I feel the teaming up of legitimate operators could be very good. If you are able to stop and ban scammers (something this forum doesn't do) then I feel you would create a much safer environment for people that want to gamble and you would in turn increase your own profitability.

I actually agree that ponzi must be put on specific section !
But the decision will be on our hand to decide  Smiley

Theymos has an ear for the community, I also hope this will be done.

Honestly, I don't understand why ponzi overhelming these days...

There was at least one very successful ponzi that earned the operator ~50 BTC in fees plus possibly an unknown amount of BTC if they played themselves. IIRC the overal volume was ~1000 BTC.
