I always celebrate when I see them get knocked down a bit, but I dunno I been sayin that since they hit 2000 ghash and that was awhile ago ///

I like MtRed.  It has fast refresh time (5 minutes vs. 1 hour for Deepbit) and really low fees.  I still like Deepbit's interface the best though.

Oh, this is news? Big pools suck. People who mine in them don't care about keeping the network secure.

WTF "Other" has more than 51% hashing power according to Bitcoin Watch.  Does it mean that we are !@#$#?
Back before there were pools 100% of the hashing power was "Other".  I think you're reading too much into this.

pretty interesting if you consider to perform a 51% attack you start by knocking out as many of the biggest pools you can (that will be about 3) then commence with your hashing might against whats left

I'm really shocked about how many people still mine on deepbit: big fees, no 8-decimal pays, not particular clear interface, and... not DDoS-reluctant...

So, the worst pool has the biggest power. Incredible!

People are too lazy to switch

Just shy of 2 hours with no blocks found put that in your variance pipe and smoke it.

I'm thinking the same thing.  Attempt to spike difficulty down at the last couple hundred blocks before adjustment.

My guess (based on this thread: https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/difficulty-adjustment-needs-modifying-46498), is that someone is trying to prove a point about difficulty adjustments.

It seems like it, at least it's the most plausible explanation if we don't take any conspiracy theories into account.

just have your miners setup with multiple backup pools configured as failovers.

Will do. I'm using GUI Miner. Is there a better way to do it than the -f60 trick? Seems inelegant and wasteful to have a card splitting resources in 'good times'

taking 2x longer per block approx. this could be good to help dock a lot of the higher pools and distribute the hashing better.
