Is it worth starting mining on wafflepool with less than 1MH/s?

Why not make that whale to mine just DOGE and divert others in to smaller coins?
The reason why people feel that there ain't good profits... Could it be the whale, because he/she
has 50-60% of the hashrate and income? Oh no, because we would profit from the whale's hashrate
also. Pool will find more blocks more faster and more often than without the whale.
So the answer is to mine multiple coins at the same time? Like 60% of the hashrate to high diff-coins.
And the rest scattered around the alt-coin-universe?

This way we would benefit from the whale and still get low-diff coins mined?

The whale/pool size seems to be driving all of the successful pools in to the higher difficulty coins.  I would add to my comments above about round-robin distribution of workers is that when the network speed on a coin jumps in comparison to its difficulty and our pool speed there is probably a formula you can use to estimate the orphans and the profitability impact and jump us off of that coin early.  That way if the other pools jumps on a coin we know its about to get difficult to find a block.

I saw WP post about us competing with ourselves - US vs EMEA.  That is an interesting one.

People if you are just now coming into this thread, GO READ THE LAST 20 PAGES. Waffle has enough work on his hands.

WP: By the way, I had all 38MH/s (15 machines from 450KH/s to 3.2 MH/s spread out over 5 physical locations) setup under on BTC with the worker address.  I switched all of them last night to different BTC addresses so I can track them individually with WAFFLEStats and see where I might be having issues.

I'm tracking their BTC/MH separately now and if you ever need help testing or validating test results let me know.

If MisterWill is listening - one issue with the recent change is if we switch to resolution of an hour on the hashrate it obscures downtime.  I'd still like to see if a miner is down 20-30 minutes (power loss, other issue).  Would there be a way to drop points on the 1 hour scale when the hashrate = 0?

why my converted graph going straght???
no coins converted?Huh

As a rule, in any forum, in any thread, read at least the last two pages before asking any question. Chances are over 90% your question has been answered already. This will help keep threads from being cluttered up with the same questions asked over and over again.

Ty PW for the updates. Coming from middlecoin (as many others) I find this thread strangely familiar....

I have to say, I lol'ed reading that because it is true.  I mined on MiddleCoin for a long time, the hash rate spiked in early January and H20 went nuts making changes to accommodate and eventually the entire pool suffered and became unprofitable.  I split my workers between MiddleCoin and WafflePool and WafflePool won so I switched everything over and was the highest MH/s *38MH/s* until the whale showed up.  Since then it is eerily similar to the pre-collapse of MiddleCoin.

Lets me see if I can summarize:

1) WafflePool had vardiff, mined lower difficulty coins, and was profitable in comparison.

2) The whale (and collapse of MiddleCoin) caused the network and server load to spike.

3) The difficulty was locked to 512 (same as MC which eventually raised it to 1024).

4) Lower difficulty coins have been removed (same as MC).  MC eventually just settled on LTC and DOGE and ended up not being a "mining the profitable coin" pool because the size of the pool couldn't support that model.

5) Aholes from MC thread have come to this thread and will probably eventually drive WP insane and he'll lurk in to the shadows like H20 did.

I've never complained - not about MC or WP but I do think we can learn from history here and see the writing on the wall.  I prefer the openness and effort of WP 100000x more than H20/MC so I'm going to stick it out but I think its clear there has to be a shift in direction.

A large pool is a sledgehammer on small coins and generates a massive number of orphans but much of the profit can be had in the small coins.  I think the opportunity here is in bringing back the small coins because all large pools will eventually come to the conclusion the orphans are too high and lock them out.  If you could round-robin rotate the workers to the small coins in comparison to the coins total MH/s(GH/s) then we could mine them where other pools cannot.

I don't care if my workers hit the small coin everytime its profitable everytime so long as they get the chance.  I'd rather hit 40% of the opportunity than 0%.

I know the whale brings you a lot of money so I'm not advocating blocking him out but that whale is going to find that DOGE and the larger difficulty coins are all they'll ever end up making profits from because every pool they go to will have the same challenges.  A round-robin worker coin assignment would work for them too though - you could drop in 200-300MH/s of their 6GH/s in to the smaller coins just like the rest of us.

WP: Is something like this doable and if not how do you think you can overcome the challenges of pool size vs coin size (profitability)?

Aren't we going to receive payments today?

Wafflepool mentioned a few posts back that Cryptsy is having API and other issues today. I'm sure we'll see payouts soon. In the meantime, enjoy the
day's quite impressive profits so far.

I'll enjoy them if I receive them Smiley

Middlecoin hashrate right now: 13.8

Wafflepool hashrate right now: 12.4

When do we start taking bets on when we pass Middlecoin in hashrate? A week ago I wouldn't have believed it. But here we are.

Considering the growth rate (not to mention the head-shaking questions in this thread) Poolwaffle has done an outstanding job in my opinion.

As for passing Middlecoin, my bet is 13:00 UTC on Monday.

After about a month on Wafflepool I remain very impressed. The transparency. The constant improvements. The way it scaled from 1 to 10 Mhs almost overnight, seamlessly. It all bodes well for the overall design and the guy who built this site.

Speaking of which, perhaps most remarkable is PoolWaffle himself. He knows his stuff and is passionate about making the best pool there is. Despite having tons to do, he keeps in constant touch with the community, even open to emails and hands on troubleshooting. All this despite being asked repeatedly the same questions by people who don't read/search for themselves. Or worse, blasted with criticism by people who don't see results after two hours of mining.

Im glad he's starting to see his hard work paying off.  Here's to growing another 10 fold and more. Cheesy

Hmm, I can't load the wafflepool.com webpage. API and mining work fine, but no webpage.

Is it just me or is anyone else having this problem?

EDIT: Looks like it works without the 'www' in front. A bit weird, since www.wafflepool.com was working before.

Generally 95-97% of the questions are already answered mostly on the same thread or at least easy to find thru google.

Welcome to the internet. Ironic isn't it?

With 10 times the hashing power vs. a week ago, that implies waffle pool is taking in 10 times the fees.

Do costs scale with hashing power (charged more for the server usage)?

With 10GH, and .01 btc/MH, that is about 100 BTC/day gross. At 1% fee, that is 1 BTC to the Pool, or about $200,000 per year at $600/btc.

Yes. He has to keep upgrading as they get bigger. Or pay more for data. Adding more servers, etc..
