Well here in Africa, Nigeria to be specific, the number of people who have access to internet is more than the whole population of some European countries.
And currently Nigerian is the 5th largest country where bitcoin is traded! ...The only thing that could hamper the growth and adoption of crypto and blockchain in Africa is the skepticism of the people towards the technology. Which can be easily resolve with good amount of educational programs,
crypto and blockchain conferences will also do a lot of good in the space.

Not that far from the truth and at least, I have been to Nigeria and some other parts of Africa, and I was able to see myself that internet access is not something that horrific as a lot of people paint it, but at the same time, there is still room for growth when we are talking about the whole of Africa.

I was impressed though when looking at some of the data in Nigeria in terms of internet access, and I bumped into some statistics from http://www.internetlivestats.com/internet-users/nigeria/ with internet users increasing each and every year and drastically compared from 2000 till date. The stats is shown below;

Quote
Internet Users in Nigeria (2016*)
Current internet users population  86,219,965
Share of Nigeria Population: 46.1 % (penetration)
Total Population : 186,987,563
Share of World Internet Users: 2.5 %
Internet Users in the World: 3,424,971,237

Not that bad with the share of internet users in the world comparison.

Now, if we are to look at Africa as a whole, this was an information I pulled out from Wikipedia;

Quote
According to 2011 estimates, about 13.5% of the African population has Internet access. While Africa accounts for 15.0% of the world's population, only 6.2% of the World's Internet subscribers are Africans. Africans who have access to broadband connections are estimated to be in percentage of 1% or lower.

Honestly, when comparing the stats of share of world internet users in Nigeria which is 2.5% with that if Africa which is 6.2%, we will realize it is is basically just some few developing countries in Africa that have access to Internet, with a whole lot far behind.

However, comparing the perception of people in terms of adoption of cryptocurrency in Africa based on internet usage, I will say it is not as bad as a lot of people portray it, but when comparing to the chances when looking at the world in general, there is room for growth, but I believe one way or the other, Africans cannot be completely left out.

I have travelled extensively in Africa for work and I can tell you that mobile service providers are spread out through Africa. There are stiff competition in the telecommunication industry and services like M-Pesa are being operated through many of these mobile networks.

Big companies like Google also have projects like this : https://www.bbc.com/news/technology-44886803 {Google's Loon brings internet-by-balloon to Kenya}

I still think they should make it a bit easier for third world countries to use Bitcoin without smart phones and super fast internet.  Huh

There are still poor internet services in villages of some small countries who have absolutely bettee economy than Africa. At the same time we have to mention that there is a reason of it in Africa. If you see, some clothes are even made here, for example let'd take Asos, why don't they manufacture in UK? Because Africa is very cheap, that's the reason why clothes are made in Turkey and in China too. This country doesn't play huge role in economy but their poverty is the reason of why is Europe reach.
Well there is a big portion of people who are deprived of the basic facilities let alone poor internet in general and strong in particular. And this can possibly hamper the ability of the people use Bitcoin. About the success of Europe at the cost of Africa, i would say that today the rich make use of the poor to get their interest out of them regardless of the consequences that can possible arise.

UK invading Indian and hindering their participation in the world's GDP that was initially 13% was only 3% in 1947 when they left. So this is something that cannot be avoided. The powerful will always quest to snatch your resources. And yes the relative advantages of certain commodities in certain parts of the world are more than in the others.

Everything is possible and Africa makes no exception, but to evolve first they have to finish with the violent militar activities. It make me sad thinking to the poor africans.

there are already a number of ICO projects that focus on this, but the implementation in Africa directly is not yet clear and the project is still dominated by exchange which is actually not very efficient, the infrastructure to facilitate internet use has not evenly spread and is still comfortable to be used by the upper middle class.

The most important thing is periodic absorption and dissemination, and if the government cares about its people, then they must start by supporting the community using crypto with all the necessary conditions.

We don't need superfast internet connection to use cryptos normally a 2G speed interned will be enough to use the crypto currencies so it is not a problem for the crypto adoption in Africa but they are not yet ready for crypto adoption because they have lot of life problems in their country so they are surviving each day in tha country so where implementation of new system will take time.
In fact, we can see that in some places in Africa, it is not like internet access is a major problem and there are still people who are already having access to cryptocurrencies.

However, we still have to understand that compared to other developed parts of the world, it is something that would still be a bit hard to see adoption grow rapidly and it might take a little time before we would start seeing it more in play, and maybe just see some few part of Africa utilizing it, but if we are to refer to the larger population, that would be some hard stuff to really achieve.

Peace be with you!
Africa is a large segment of the world economy that could see some challenges in catching up with the rest of the world in being a part of the crypto revolution due to poor internet services infrastructure. This is the fall out from less investment in the development of the sector. Crypto is a much more needed addition to the Africa economy as it has the potential to generate huge wealth and get the younger generation engaged.Africa should a crypto hub.

Difinitely. Cryptocirrency investments, trading, mining and transactions needs to have a fast internet connection to make a progress. Here in my country internet connection is one of the most annoying part aside from power outage in dealing with crypto currency. I do hope that governments has to take actions regarding this matter as it is also a hindrance for a country to have a successful and more economic gains.

You are right despite the over 80% of the world population residing in African the region has witness high rate of underdevelopment and at that social amenities such as electricity and internet connection has been a big challenge to those living within this region and this two things are what cryptocurrency relied upon for it operations.
High rate of underdevelopment as a result of bad leadership, and not having all the necessary facilities and amenities in place that could help change a lot of things. I remember being to some parts of Africa and that is the time I got to know that power supply is still being interrupted almost 80% of the time in the day, with people even using their generators as the steady one and then normal power supply as a backup.

At this age, it is that bad. A government that is finding it hard to provide power, how will people be able to then get access to technology, internet or whatever, that would enable them have access to cryptocurrencies. That would be a bit hard.

Some countries develop thanks to technology (like india) and some develop thanks to manufacturing (like china and turkey) and some countries develop thanks to shoemaking (african countries) it doesn't change the fact that bitcoin is a simple thing that could be send and received with bare minimum tech need.

Even if a person from africa doesn't have a computer of his own (which I assume is more common in rural areas because places like johannesburg is quite developed even on european standards) he/she can use an internet cafe to go there and do their work and receive bitcoins there.

The only possible way a person from africa can't really make enough is if their country doesn't have an internet website that allows them to cash out their bitcoins into their countries money but even than they could just cash out in fiat for dollars or their fiat on localbitcoins for less than the avarage price. Poor internet service is remotely the least of their worries going into bitcoin world.

I dont think that with the rise in technological advances it is necessary to have the internet connection all over the world.

There is new tech about which I am reading these days and thats called as Mesh technology where there is only need of internet connection at specific distance and its not necessary to be placed all over the region to successfully execute the actions.

It goes online whenever it gets the internet connection.

Some more advances are also expected above this and could remove internet necessity for sure.

But it will difficult to implemented in such expensive technology in poor countries, even for internet which is very cheap in some countries still become an expensive item in Africa, and crypto can't work without Internet, that is why the growth in Africa for crypto is not too significant

In Africa there is seriously poor internet infrastructures and the cost of using internet is very high in this continent and that in turn will affect the development and adoptions of cryptocurrencies in Africa. However africa should not give up as the blockchain technology is going to bring financial freedom to Africa.

the certificate will be difficult to implement crypto in the African continent. with low human resources it seems difficult. maybe it will slowly be applied there but consequently it will be difficult. different from South Africa which has possible human resources.
indeed human resources are main capital to access crypto. of course with high human resources, will have internet needs to support their activities, and I think that internet service will be prioritized

poor internet is a problem of technological infrastructure, the role of government is very important in providing access for the community. technological developments that are so fast, forcing the world government to make this internet access as a secondary and even a primary need of a country.
I am an African and I tell you that it's not only poor Internet service that's going to to cause problems for crypto use in the continent but rather it's the way that Internet usage is expensive that's what's going to worry crypto adoption in Africa. The standard of living is very bad and a few can afford to use their money for internet.
