If anyone has any experience with solo mining, I got 2 questions:
whats the difference between "New block detected on network" and "New block detected on network before longpoll?
and
if a new block is detected before i've got any accepted shares my work is useless(?) can I tweak any settings so it stays longer on the same block ?

When you are soloing the only share that matters is one higher than the current difficulty. Once you get it you'll see a BLOCK message. If the block is valid and confirmed by other miners you get the full reward.
I'm not too sure about long poll. The only time I see it is when I first start my miner up and it connects to the wallet.
