The 2018 mark on 5000 dollars is just a speculation and I think government and other corporations will take btc seriously if it hits the 5000 dollars and above and they will try to enter it's world and this will be a tough battle on both sides.

Government can make a big impact like making btc illegal or make media to try to destroy btc and I hope that won't happen.

I would be quite surprised if Governments weren't taking Bitcoin & co seriously already. It's just that rolling out policies is an extremely inefficient and slow process. It'll probably be too late for governments to intervene in any meaningful way by the time they're actually ready to do so, lol...

50k is not a high price if Bitcoin can improve transaction speeds and lower transaction fees. As long as it outperforms regular methods of payment on these two benchmarks, people will keep flocking to it. Compared to the amount of money that is being moved around internationally, the amount of money in Bitcoin is still no more than a wet fart. 50k in 10 years or by 2030 is not even close to an optimistic estimate as long as Bitcoin remains on top from a technological point of view.

If you are expecting USD50000 for the price of 1 Bitcoin, forget it. Of course, many changes like Segwit is occurring. This should place upward pressure on prices and slowly nudge them up. Especially when transaction fees and confirmation times are slashed, prices would expectedly rise.

Moreover, currently, Bitcoin is highly underrated. Not many people use it or understand its full potential. Once this happens, through the help of mainstream media and innovative altcoin ideas like Enjincoin (Enjincoin incorporates cryptocurrency into a large, already established gaming network, Enjin. This introduces new members to the crypto-world and thus to Bitcoin), Bitcoin price should rise consistently.

For 2018, my prediction is similar to the rest of the opinions above, around 3000 to 5000 USD. However, definitely not 50000USD!

I highly doubt that it would take "a couple of decades" for Bitcoin to reach $50k. In fact, I would be quite surprised if Bitcoin didn't reach $50k before 2030. That would mean that another coin has technologically surpassed Bitcoin so far, that everybody jumped boats to the new currency.

Bitcoin has potential to rock the price of 5K or 50K but not in 2018 for surely. Price bitcoin is sole dependent of market situation and looking at current market happenings such as Hard fork da after tomorrow and soft fork in the month of November are ripping its strength. It will take time to recover from this the scene and would start moving up once the market capitalisation for bitcoin itself increases.

Plus you don't know exactly what is aftermath when the hard fork and soft fork comes in action.

i think it is impossible to reach $50k this year, more than 2000% in a matter of 4 months, it is not possible.
But $3,5k - $4k is a little more realistic, by the end of this year.

50000$ is impossible to reached by next year. Were only at 2700$ and 50k in matter of months is very impossible. My prediction on bitcoin is it will only hit 4000$ for the year 2018.

In 2018 Bitcoin will very likely not end up becoming anywhere close to $50,000 USD. You're looking at maybe somewhere around $5,000 maximum if the market is in a good mood and the fork goes well, but otherwise there could be some issues when it comes to cracking some of the goals for the market. $3,000, $4,000, $5,000 is a big number right now and we probably saw a lot of the new money come in during the pump from three-digits to four, and now we have to wait for either a new wave of money or a lot of people holding and refusing to sell.

$2,500-$5,000 will likely be the story of 2018, maybe a bit higher up if the investors are generous.
