Knowing that Haaland scored at the 5' , I'm sure a lot of you, including myself, bet on over 3 total goals in that match. I can't believe the match between Man City and Southampton ended at just 1-0. lol
Anyway, the record for the most draws in a single matchday in the EPL is 7. So far, there have been 3 draws in today matchday 9, and it almost became 4 draw if B. Mbeumo of Brentford F.C. hadn't scored in the 90+6' minute. There are still 4 remaining games, and if they all end in draws, it would tie the record for the most draws in a matchday. But I think it's unlikely to happen. lol
I also did not expect that the match between Man City and Southampton would end with a narrow score of 1-0. And Erling Haland's goal at the beginning of the first half, was really the only goal scored in the match. Unusually, even though Man City had many opportunities to increase their lead, including with 12 corner kicks obtained. Man City has a striker with a tall posture, namely Erling Haland, in a dead ball situation like that it should be a great opportunity to score a goal but this time Haaland and his colleagues were unable to convert it into an additional goal.
However, even so, it needs to be appreciated that in this match Southampton's defensive ability was quite good. Conceding in the early minutes did not make Southampton players pessimistic, they remained confident that they could match Man City's game.
Man City was not as usual, because usually Man City is a team that is hungry for goals. Being able to score 3 more goals when facing Southampton was something that was predicted before. However, after the match took place, it was unexpected that Southampton's defense was so strong, and even though they conceded in the early minutes of the match, they were able to match Man City's game, they were able to thwart attacks launched by Man City including thwarting 12 corner kicks obtained by Man City.
I was also very amazed to see Southampton's defense, because usually a team that concedes in the early minutes, the team's defense becomes a little fragile, conceding in the early minutes can really destroy the mentality and confidence of the players, but this did not happen to Southampton, they have a strong mentality and confidence. And for the sake of the team's progress, Southampton only needs to sharpen their attack line again, Southampton must be able to take advantage of the few opportunities they get when counterattacking and converting them into a goal.
