Not good enough. They only have above average squad that is in balance between defense and attacking. Their attacking is not bad but their defense is. Their attacking is not good enough to cover their defense so their general result is bad.

Coaches are only parts of their issues, not their main or only issue. Issues are from their President, Woodward etc who had very bad strategy to develop the club. They spent a lot of money for transfers and salary but receive too little back. They failed to deal with other clubs and bought players at more expensive cost than other clubs would pay.

Many coaches had problems with transfers too. They were not given enough power to decide or reject what players they want or don't want to have in squad. Then they could not use those unwanted players well.

It's difficult to find someone of Paul Pogba's caliber, but I can't say the same for Nemanja Matic. I think Manchester United will easily fill the absence of Nemanja Matic. Yes, this will be a buildup in the same sector and will certainly create a gap with other sectors. Are Ten Hag planning to let go of some of the names of players who are now at Manchester United? Yes it is, if Manchester United can't bring in any players it will be a loss for them because they can't forgive their opportunity in the transfer window. But I don't think that's going to happen, especially since some of their players are leaving Old Trafford one by one. Of course they have to find a substitute to fill the void.

Manchester United are still in pursuits of Frankie De Jong after their previous deal for the Dutchman was turned down by Barcelona following them to increase their bids.
I think United have the money to sign the player just that they are planning to limits the way they spend on players in the transfer window. Moreover, I like Frankie pattern of game because he's fast and knows when to give accurate and passive long crosses to attackers. He was my favorite when he was in Ajax before leaving for Barça.
