It wasn't just the defense, all front three lacked confidence as well. Arteta keeps experimenting with the defense but he's scared to drop Auba, Laca and Willian [they've been underperforming for the past few games].

Totally, they have been missing some real golden chances. I think Arteta shoudl try some other combinations in between like bringing in Nketiah or say Nicolas Pepe for a change in wing and strike keeping Aubameyang in playing. They didn't performed that bad but that was an easy game for them against Villa. He only keeps on changing defensive and midfield formation- either its gonna be 4 defenders , 3 midfielders or 3 defenders 4mids.  He has to step up and try changing the attack line formation a bit. And they can try out changing in Europa league matches now that they are leading their group.

The league will settle after a hectic schedule over Xmas & New Year. I think you’re right, Spurs may last up there a little longer but they have a tough run of fixtures coming. The title will be mainly contested between Man City & Liverpool when the business end of the season arrives.
We hope it does settle between that time because, the ups and downs is just too much. Lots of teams have sat on the table for a while now and I don't see how another team isn't going to seat right there for a while anytime soon.

On the contest for the title, I would have loved it even more if you could just take out Manchester City and insert Chelsea in that spot as Manchester City keeps falling down the EPL table and it's going to take a lot to bring them up, not just on there side but, they've got to be hoping that Chelsea meets a lot of difficulty with series of bad games which is very unlikely compared to how they started and now, they've picked up the pace.

.....in the upper part, Leicester, Southampton and Tottenham have three wins in a row, and that put them on the top, probably that will not last for all of them

i would say that only at the bottom situation is expected

I'd say the same thing. One thing that's quite surprising though is just how low the points totals are for those teams: 3, 2 and 1 for the bottom 3. As a rough approximation, they've played 1/5 of their total league games this season. If we extrapolate based on performance so far, they'd finish on 15, 10 and 5 points for the whole season. Whilst the rest of the teams have been inconsistent, those at the bottom have been consistently bad.

there is much to see from this table, since it is pretty unexpected after first eight rounds, i would say that only at the bottom situation is expected and Fulham, West Brom and Burnley are already close to relegation, think that Sheffield and Brighton will stay above the line at the end, and all other teams are better than those five

in the upper part, Leicester, Southampton and Tottenham have three wins in a row, and that put them on the top, probably that will not last for all of them

If we look at the standings we only see that from the “top four” only Liverpool is in a good position with Chelsea following a bit down. This year we are going to have a great season in the Premier League and we will not see only a single team leading with a big amount of points difference.
I'm sure Chelsea will also catch up...
The 'big four' seems to have started to fade. btw, Chelsea has risen to rank 5 and for sure they will last until this season is over.

I don't know what else to say, Arsenal's performance is really starting to decline, Aston Villa has made a wound in the hearts of Arsenal fans.

i'm totally fine with the win  Cheesy I backed Spurs (even though they're a toss-up almost every week) in a single bet [asian handicap -1 at 1.78 odds], and good thing Kane scored, means i got my stake back, stake that i will probably not place on any Spurs bet slips until next year lol

didn't watch City - Liverpool, but from what i'm reading on social media, 2nd half was kind of a borefest? i guess both squads are pretty tired right now, you usually expect high intensity from both teams :/

Arsenal - A Villa...i predicted a 3-0 Gunners win in the btctalk pool...huge chance for arsenal to jump to the top 6, leggo Gunners!

I have to agree here and of course as a Spurs fan,,, I am totally happy with the result. 3 points is always preferable to any type of game, I am sick of playing well and then losing points (I do not want to remember 3-3 results no matter how exciting).

London teams are really not doing well these few seasons I have to say.

How long has it been since all the biggest clubs aka "big four" competed for the title?

I remember this season, where only Chelsea, MU, Liverpool and Arsenal were deemed to have the chance to win. However, the league became monotonous, because only Chelsea and MU won the title. Liverpool, who always failed to become champions in the EPL, despite their legend, Gerrard could lead Liverpool to become the UCL champion can't bring his team to the EPL title. After the outbreak of "The Big Four" EPL became more difficult to predict, Kick and Rush became not only the slogan of the league and the tightness of the matches on the field, but also in the standings.

The Arsenal/Villa game perfectly exemplifies the immense unpredictability of the Premier League this season. Just when you think you have some confidence in what will happen, the opposite happens! Villa started the season extremely well, including that insane Liverpool result... but since then looked to have been found out a bit, and got hammered by Southampton and Leeds... it looked like Villa's early season form was an anomaly and they'd drop back down the table quite rapidly. Meanwhile Arsenal looked good, especially off the back of the win against Man U... and were at home against struggling Villa. Looked like a solid home banker... and what happens? Villa flick a switch somewhere and go back into 'Liverpool' mode, and put 3 past Arsenal without reply for a comprehensive away win. It's crazy... I wouldn't like to put a bet on anything in the Prem at the moment.
Just because of last night match I am also thinking its really crazy to bets on Premier League matches because from start of new season we have many shocking results and few unpredictable things happening Arsenal is never been good side for challenging title but recently few one's was thinking under Arteta they can do some better but its really not easy and going to take some long time because they have some serious troubles even having some top class players.

I was certain Arsenal would win this game but it just shows that they are nowhere near ready to challenge for the title under Arteta.
At least a couple of seasons before we could call ourselves a title contender.
Legend says Arsenal will be more mature next season. Oh wait..... we've been hearing that since Arsene's days.

What has changed from Manchester City this season ?

I think they are bit unlucky as they went through with lot injuries and or some being COVID+ in middle. City are a great team but they had some injuries like Jesus, Aguero, De Bruyne also. These are main players who drive the city attack a lot usually. Their defense still have problems. Earlier their attack used to produce enough goals to win them matches but right now with absence of key players in middle they lost the quality and proper build up. They gonna be on track soon, no worries.
No permanent champion in football, even if the team does not have that injuries other teams are getting better and are younger. Guardiola took the points when his tactics had not be unraveled. He might need a better tatics, he has spent more than than any other manager in the league especially in his defense but what did we see? shamble!

Arsenal is going through a very tough time now. They aren't the poor team here but they have failed to secure wins. They seemed good at last match but the defense was lacking some confidence.

Why Arsenal can be easily defeated by Aston Villa,
Because they didn't have any fighting spirit in them...
- Apart from two players, the remaining players on the field didn't take part in their last game [plenty of stamina but ... SMH].

maybe next Fixtures will be easier. Leeds vs Arsenal.
I'm expecting to see another disaster for the Gunners.

Match day 8 is another proof that the Premier League is the toughest to win? How long has it been since all the biggest clubs aka "big four" competed for the title? I talking about the four horse race or five when Man City joined the richest clubs.

There was even a time when only Arsenal was criticized for always competing for the third or fourth spot [not the title] but they were later joined by Man United and Chelsea hehe.

What has changed from Manchester City this season ?

This must be a question that also comes in minds of City fans. This season they started not well, being a weak (compared to last season), next week they will face Spurs if compared to this result it is very possible for them to lose but again this season there are many unexpected results, such as Arsenal can win against Man United at Old Trafford but lose badly at home.
The same thing with Liverpool, unlike the previous season which was unbeaten at the start, this season I saw a lot of changes from the small team that continued to improve in their performances, see southampton I am amazed by the matches they have played these eight weeks with satisfying results and now on top of this to be able to beat Mancity and Man United who are not so sure of winning this season.
In my mind I always thought, will this season be won by a small team for the EPL trophy?

Arsenal 0 - 3 Aston Villa

today was a day that i lost all my bets, my precious profit was reduced in those games of yesterday and today. I don't know how it is possible that the games of yesterday and today could bring so many surprises and the damn arsenal was crushed by Aston Villa. this is unbelievable

I was certain Arsenal would win this game but it just shows that they are nowhere near ready to challenge for the title under Arteta.
