Popular cryptocurrency exchange and brokerage service Coinbase may soon remove support for decentralized applications for its Apple users. The firm cited the App Store policy as the reasoning behind the decision.

According to a post on Reddit, Coinbase Wallet users were recently greeted with a message about the potential change. In response to the post, Coinbase’s CEO Brian Armstrong commented that it looks like Apple is attempting to eliminate decentralized applications from its App Store.

I just know how it feels, especially on what is happening recently to Coinbase....

Looks like Apple isn't ready yet to embrace decentralization, blockchain and cryptocurrency as Coinbase was forced to remove it's app. I am pretty sure that if Apple doesn't embrace decentralization in open arms, they would be left behind like Nokia, Motorola and Blackberry later on.

I'm just pretty sure that Steve Jobs from heaven won't approve Apple's recent decision to remove decentralized apps like Coinbase. They would regret later on like Wikipedia did years ago by removing Bitcoin from their pages. In the end, they embraced it and started to accept Bitcoin donations.

One day, Apple would realize that they need to shift into decentralization later on if they want to keep up with the trend. Not just fancy phones.

Who says they are not doing just that? People are aware of crypto and Apple already so it's not like crypto apps are gonna give iOS more customers or any type of profit in this case. It will just be hustle for the company to fight with customers complaints and scams in the industry. They can just work on their project instead and incorporate it for users when they are sure it will bring profit for them and not only problems

Apple probably wants people to use their own apple pay systems in the world, I mean it can only be used in apple stores as far as I know but as long as it is a payment getaway for some people they will want no other payment systems to get bigger. Coinbase is a big threat to them because all other systems are either banned already or too big to ban whereas coinbase is something growing and getting bigger and bigger instead of all other systems where they are just staying around the same levels.

I still think one day crypto payment systems will be available for apps very easily because they will reach to a point where it will be impossible to ignore, we are growing in numbers as crypto people and we won't be ignored for too long, at least in the future.

It seems that American companies are boycotting crypto.  There is now Facebook and hopefully in the future they will not eliminate all topics related to crypto.  To me, I have a unique sense of our market is at stake.  It seems like a lot of fraud is happening so they're also boycotting.  What is the future of the crypto market like?

This may be related to the American economic war, they want to make bad public sentiment about the cryptocurrency environment, because American rivals, namely China have plans to make their own coins.
Fraud in the cryptocurrency environment will only be a reason for America's statement to the public later. Whose real purpose is to oppose China's coin.

I personally think they're doing it right. They are only concerned for the security of the system they have built over the years. Coinbase is a very large and convenient wallet application, but no one is sure about its security. So getting rid of is also a good idea, sometimes selfish will bring a safety for a large business.

Stepping into technology at any time means never approaching late to hop in. With future perspective this Coinbase technology will grow more with the flow. As soon awareness increase intensification, businesses will move towards the services. And success key tactics is to wait for the right time to arise.

I also don't know what the future of this market will be like, but recent signs show that the US is planning to purge cryptocurrency and not let the market grow. If my thoughts were correct then Libra would definitely not be able to debut in 2020 or it will never even appear in this market. We need to wait a bit longer to know exactly what's going on

I don't get why these huge tech companies are going against crypto so much. First google had all that youtube video removal and google adwords ban on crypto type of stuff, google only should care about making money and that's it, if they could make money from crypto people, they would make money from crypto people and that is end of it, why would they have to ban it?

Crypto is not something banned in many nations so there is no reason to ban crypto from google, makes ZERO sense. Then facebook banned crypto ads on their platforms, which is basically same issue with google, and Apple has always been very sensitive about crypto related apps on their phones. These companies can take crypto into a whole new level of adoption and they could make billions of dollars in profit from it.

a little tickling when you mention this Nokia, Motorola and Blackberry, are we already in the world of more sophisticated technology, it seems like not yet, just look at Apple might need to think about something before deciding to delete coinbase, they didn't learn from what they were supposed to learn first coinbase before removing it? I do not know sometimes there are still large companies that are difficult to make a new breakthrough even want to follow the technology that is developing now to follow the times as well as market desires, this is clearly similar to some other companies that have gone bankrupt now  Grin

I believe only Apple know the truth reason and for this one I say they should sit together and find solutions. Apple can't deny that decentralization, blockchain and cryptocurrency is part of the world, soon or later they must accept reality. The problem is in government policy, in financial business should use currency not crypto and blockchain can't track, that's totally dangerous. That's classic reason, another reason is about benefits. Only those thing I know ( regulation & benefits ), looks simple but in business world that crucial.

I think apple is supporting the most countries government that not supporting decentralized exchanges and coins because people's wealth will be undetectable and the world government won't this happen. And they force apple to not support that kind of bussiness or they will be do something with the apple company, this is my speculation about this news.

I think the recent events are not a coincidence. Youtube deletes videos that talk about cryptocurrency, and google blocked metamask in their app store. And until now the appstore has removed coinbase from the store, it seems that there is some force that is trying to stop the development of cryptocurrency and is sabotaging it. I believe that whatever they do, everything will be in vain. This market will grow, nothing can stop the future.

it could be due to internal policy pressures related to the results of the annual shareholders' meeting, if this power comes from the government, then they shouldn't look too hasty. I am still surprised by this news. They will be considered to make a blunder if they start apathetic towards some important applications related to decentralization.

I also think something like that, at the end of the year there is a similar news where the two big companies do sweeping content that contains crypto or decentralized. It seems like there really is a mastermind behind all of this, certainly the mastermind has very high power to be able to make policies towards the two big companies.

in my opinion it all does not really affect the coinbase, there are still many places to make a coinbase wallet, after all, not too many people use apple, Application users are more dominant on Android than Apple, although not using the application we can still make a wallet on the web.

I also do not mind this problem because I am an Android user myself, but what about USA users because they mostly use Apple IOS with their luxury phones if this has no effect on the Coinbase exchange then don't worry in my opinion.
And I'm sure there are more Android users than Apple.

You could be right.

A few weeks ago, Metamask team announced availability of their wallet app on playstore. Kinda reminds me of apps like APKpure which were in direct competition with Google play. You can never find them in google playstore

However, i am still wondering why wallets like ImToken, EOS's Lynx wallet among others are still in google play because those apps have a host of Dapps and they have been around in google play way longer than metamask

It may just be a matter of visibility and popularity. MetaMask is the most popular Ethereum browser and wallet. Earlier this year, they projected 264K active users and 1.51 million transactions per month.

In comparison, Lynx Wallet is only at 10K+ downloads in the Google Play store so it may not even be on Google's radar yet.

How so? The announcement from Coinbase is real. The MetaMask Android client was also just suspended by the Google Play App Store, probably for similar reasons.

This is what it comes down to:

Web3 is in direct competition with Google & Apple. We should expect continued censorship on MetaMask, Coinbase, & other dapp browsers.

Nope. People don't care enough about decentralization to actually impact any company or financial institution. For years people have made fun of Apple in various ways, said that it would be the next Nokia and whatnot, but they are worth $1.3 trillion as of today's valuation. You can fit Nokia's market cap in its prime 10 times in Apple's market cap easily.

Bitcoin's market cap can fit like 10 times in Apple's market cap too.

Sorry, but how do you know that? The sole purpose of a company like Apple is to make money, and keep its shareholders happy. No one gives a crap about Coinbase's move.

The article tries to spread FUD indirectly so do not rely on it as a source of reliable information.

Also, the problem is related to Dapps, not Blockchain apps as a whole.

What are you saying, censorship of dapps is okay but censorship of blockchain apps would be a problem? This seems like an unfortunate direction to move in no matter what.
