I didn't know that they are offering ads impressions on their website I thought that they are making a profit for their website by offering the API.

Well, since they are getting lots of traffic offering ads spaces on their website is the fastest way to earn from their website and it will help also to upgrade CMC and to maintain it.
The only problem with that they don't verify if the project is scam or not but I heard that you can report those scam to CMC support. Before they take action they need many reports to the specific project before they remove or suspend the scam project on CMC.

You ask companies what they really want more - to make money, turn an idea into reality or both? It will be interesting to listen to people's priorities. It is clear that cryptocurrency is a springboard for earnings and there is nothing to be done about it. Everyone makes money as best he can and we must always consider this. I now do not condone coinmarketcap in any way.

Going back to 2017 scam ICO launchings, one thing for sure, sites like Coin Market Cap have played a very big role in promoting those scams. Yes they did it because they want money but one thing they should realize that this thing would lead to distrust of new people in crypto which would ultimately also close their shop as well.

Coin Market Cap takes a huge amount of money from those scammers.
When i contacted CMC, i got this email.
Hi, and thanks for reaching out! Our pricing is based on impressions:

Desktop Formats:
·      Top Banner (728x90)  - $14.00 per 1000 impressions
·      Side Banner (160x600) - $8.00 per 1000 impressions
·      Bottom Banner (728x90) - $4.00 per 1000 impressions
Mobile Formats:
·      Top Banner (320x100) - $8.00 per 1000 impressions
·      Mid Page Banner (300x250) - $6.00 per 1000 impressions [Coin Detail Pages only]
·      Bottom Banner (320x100) - $4.00 per 1000 impressions [Coin Detail Pages only]
May promotion:  10% bonus impressions for orders of $25k or more

If these sites just go for some verification before promoting these scams, it would be very good for the visitors. Verification can include Mobile verification, Identity verification etc. These sites are an open image of crypto, if these sites just reduce their earned money by a bit and plan for long term then it would be beneficial for all of us.

If this is true, then CMC is not helping matters. As some people are helping to fight against scam, some are upholding it, which is not fair. CMC is one of the faces of crypto, an ambassador and a representative. However, in this situation, they are not representing the masses, but their personal gain.

Many  hardly do thorough research on the things they promote.
It's a widespread problem. I guess it's difficult for them to determine what is scam or not. Or thorough research is probably expensive?
CMC does not need to know whether it is a scam or not. What matters to them is making money for ICO campaigns that place their advertising banners on CMC, And even on popular crypto currency websites they place their banner and they pay for it like Etherscan.io.

They are advertising scams because they are paid to advertise for the target audience. Not sure how this differs from any advertisements on the internet.

Seriously, that's business and they don't care whether they're advertising scam projects or not. They'll just reason out that they're not affiliated to all of those and we should invest at our own risk.

And not surprising anymore as they're still being paid to fake trading volumes.

Money really run the world.  Roll Eyes

What? Can you link any source to this? I know that the exchange volumes are inaccurate but i thought that it was because wash trading done by them, but getting paid for faking them is news to me.

It turned out that the truth was very astonishing. In fact it all ends with money, everything needs and only for money. Yes indeed, in 2017 everyone can make their tokens easily. This happens because the price of bitcoin is soaring that they are competing to make profits by making coins.

It is always all about money, money, money, and money. Laws, standards, qualifications, restrictions, policies, and all will be set aside if money takes into the picture. When money is at the center stage, most principles will have to retreat in the farthest corners. That is what happened to sites such as CMC, exchanges, crypto review sites, and even the SEC. Shame on them all.
hahaha right. Where there is lucrative land, there is regulation. Yes, in the end, money. They want to taste it by relying on power for security reasons. Money can change people's behavior. No matter the effect that will be caused to the wider community.

The identity verification will be the best shot here, i don't like coinmarketcap because of this, apart from checking the entire crypto market cap i don't have any business with CMC, they are worse than ICOBENCH or ICODROP

Found it true that most exchanges follow the rules of money. As long as those projects pay the amount they need, they don't care if it's scam or not.

Wow! thats huge sum of money collected by CMC from those scam ICO's! I think these is not new it was happening already before but just today it was highlighted. that's the reason why every investors should observe due diligence before making any investments in cryptocurrency, because we cant rely with these platforms Beware!
we have realized that from the start. and investors should be fully aware that all promotions that support fraud projects are only for the payment they get. for the trust, we must think and examine it ourselves. the existence of problems like this makes a lot of investors refrain from adopting new crypto or investing in new projects. if it continues like this, how is the continuation of the new crypto? or maybe this market indeed belongs to old coins that have survived with their renewal.

Coinmarketcap is a 'place' to advertise any project, as far as the projects pay it would be okay.
coinmarketcap dont care wheter it's good or bad project
i think it makes sense, because that's just a banner advertisement.
if we look at ICO review, it is worse. using fake review to get investor attention which is one of lying

That's all about money. Similar to ICO rating websites they are paid by scammers because they are mostly viewed by newcomers when investing in ICOs and other crypto currency based websites. But we have nothing else to blame here except ourselves because we are in control of our money and we must know how to keep it.

Yeah sure, everybody is complaining about scams, but scammers are paying the biggest money for advertising to such websites as Etherscan, Coinmarketcap and ICO rating websites like ICObench or ICOmarks.

Unfortunately, such platforms scopes only the coins or the projects that has been there without any validation behind. Side of it is that they are as well a business, bribery are existing in this. They aren't forced but with money under the table even though they quite knew that the project were just a scam they would blindedly promote instead of doing the otherwise. Sadly these situations occurs in real life situation that is why this aren't surprising.
actually what happens like that is a bad problem that has often happened. but some campaign managers and advertising sites don't mind because they pay. but there is a bad reputation that will be obtained when the promoted project is a scam project. but beyond all that, we cannot blame anyone except the person who made the project itself. because those who deceive us.

no i think that's a normal from some website to make income from ads, the main problem is why today are launching many ico listing site.
new project/scammer can maipulate Data from this ico listing because this site can earn money from developer some project to make review and give them high rate like a trusted project.

Of course, each service will fight for customers and make money. If Coinmarketcap admins see that their audience is decreasing, they will have to look for the reasons for this and the solution to this problem. On the other hand, there are already different rating services that provide more information about projects conducting ICOs, there is already a check of the team and all documents. I believe that now there will be a struggle of services for users. And to get more users you need to provide only verified information.

Understand coinmarketcap is also working for money so they will accept any kind of promotions not sure they have added criteria now, even they had banners of proved scam sites recently so just trusting an advertisement is your own mistake.Maybe they can add verification as you mentioned but do you think this will stop scammers? Anyone can buy new number with theft id and can be used for this purpose.

cmc ? awts  but i thought cmc was a verry reputable platform and afaik they will not accept scam proposals because they are already an elite when it comes to crypto source/infos  .

if they do that they can only damage thier sites reputation  . if im one of those website listers i think wont accept scams because money is not what makes a person happy but i only want to become honored as one of those good sites that exist on the internet .
I also noticed some scam ads on their main page. Probably that is true, they never care if that scam or not as long as they had always clients. But I think we could not blame them, as an investor or a bounty hunter we must do research first before anything else. But I think CMC has an honest data analysis on every coin or project that was there. I saw coin that inactive status and I think that is enough for us to know.

Advertisers like CMC only provide the best service for their customers. Scammers as their customers but using fake identities. This is purely a transaction between a service seller and a service user. The problem of the scammer project must be analyzed by yourself, do not trust the ad before analyzing more algi. Becoming a new or old investor must be smarter and not be fooled by fake projects that will cost you money.
