I don't believe that we have fully secure mail provider. Protonmail might be close but there are still some questions to be asked.

My main concern, how can we can tell that my message sent is being encrypted with the correct public key?
I mean Protonmail is the creator and distributor of the encryption keys, they can switch the keys and we will never know, right?

never heard of proton mail until today, i've always used gmail, but i see they can accept bitcoin, this alone make me like it; ok i've registered after a quick look it appear that you can only have 20gb of storage and only 50 address added if you want all this for $24 per month, if you ask me this is a bit expensive and limited, but i like that you are encrypted, unlike google that store all the information
The most expensive plan will cost me €30 here, but it just depends on how you appreciate/value the level of your privacy.

If you're just a basic user, then it makes no sense to sign up and go with the most expensive plan. But if you rely on privacy no matter what, then the benefits will easily outweigh the costs.

You can also sign up free where you can choose to just add additional options such as an extra address, or extra storage. But that's not really a necessity since the free plan isn't all that bad.

You can just continue to use gmail for your non privacy minded things, and switch to protonmail in case you want to make sure whatever you do, everything is tightly encrypted.

Limited in number. Limitless in potential.

Never heard this email provider service ever since and I only use google mail since I started to make emails. But as upon reading posts above it seems that proton mail has a good reputation among users here.
Maybe I'll try to use this one later and the ui looks nice also. Thanks for bringing up it here.

Well, I've only ever used gmail and yahoo for my emails. I find Google Drive very useful but it does get annoying
seeing/receiving all sorts of advertisements and spam emails.

Anyway, seeing as Proton mail has good reviews from users here, I'm gonna try it out as well and see how it goes.
I take it they don't require phone numbers unlike with gmail? Thanks.

i will stay with gmail since i don't know proton mail and i am using gmail for long time ago until now. i think gmail is secure too because in gmail, we can add 2FA for our account and i did this already. beside that, i think gmail is make new innovation like other email provider and adding new feature to be attracted more people to use their email provider service. maybe later i will trying to register with proton mail and see if i can get their benefits too like other members.

Protonmail is very good with their security, and better looking design as well..
But, if you have half your life on the net and use google auth everywhere might as well go gmail as well?

I've a long time user of gmail and I am satisfied with their services, no problems encountered ever since I started using it. Talking about proton mail I don't get any familiarity about it, maybe others use it and their experiences were favorable then its okay for them and anyways we particularly have our own freedom of will to decide where are we comfortable with.

  • ProtonMail is open source: https://github.com/ProtonMail/WebClient This means the webClient, the main software, all the cryptography libraries they use is open for everyone to see and check for themselves from day one.
  • They accept bitcoin. For their paid services and also as donation
  • Your Email is encrypted End-To-End meaning the server has no access to your content since it is being encrypted inside your browser.
  • It is based in Switzerland, meaning they respect your privacy more!
  • It supports Tor.
  • The design looks cool Smiley https://protonmail.com/images/slider/column-message.jpg
  • Also has iOS and Android support

It is worth mentioning that for highly sensitive information you should still take other precautions.

it has been some time since i moved to protonmail and i am perfectly satisfied with it. it is an awesome free mail provider that you can donate or buy other options from to help it.
it is secure and their encryption techniques are pretty good. and if i recall correctly they are based in Switzerland which is a big perk as far as privacy is concerned.

the only problem with not using google is that you don't get their features for example google docs, google drive,... but you have to give them your phone number! and also accept that Google is in US and it means zero privacy.

I haven't used proton mail and with my experience on gmail. And when I wasn't able to login with my email, I called their support and talked for some verification for almost 15 minutes (it's quite long for me) though I can say that after verification they sent me a SMS regarding my concern and they gave me my new password. Though I'm receiving a lot of spam emails, I'm just ignoring them.

i've been using both and can say that gmail does not prioritise user privacy and security as much as proton mail does. proton mail's list of security measures is long https://protonmail.com/security-details. these guys have end to end encrypted inboxes meaning even the company can't read your emails, proton mail is also based in switzerland so none of that NSA coercion google has been trapped in affects proton mail. we all know google's business model, on the other hand, though, right? scan all your incoming messages and bombard you with ads. i read on there blog that they also recently launched a tor website so as to add another layer of privacy for users. hope that helps.

I've been a long time user of Gmail and I've really loved using it for all this time, Google is one of those companies that is linked into to most things and can usually be used to sign into a majority of sites on the internet. Though, with recent revelations of the amount of data companies are really tracking about me and everyone else in the world which is sold down the line to marketers and so on I was looking for a better email service as they pretty much have my entire life on their.

I've seen many people saying ProtonMail is safe, secure and the way to go but I've never really used it and wouldn't really want to try without hearing input from some users, would love some people to let me know how it goes.

I would also like to know how secure ProtonMail is. They have free and paid
version. What I don't like about those free mail (Gmail, Yahoo, Hotmail) is
that they are like building your profiles and then you will be targeted
for advertisement from those because its very lucrative for them.

Probably one thing I want to know if someone else has uses ProtonMail
is that what if you send someone an email but the recipient does not
using ProtonMail, then how can the individual read the mail if it is
encrypted?
