Is it not legal do advertise in PM?
I also got advertising in PM. But from another user.
Then I should report it to.
Reporting or not is a matter of personal choice. You don't have to report it if you don't want to. I have received unsolicited PMs in the past without reacting or doing anything about it. It depends on whether the content is malicious or not. If someone sends you infected files, tries to phish you, or cheat you somehow, those are the things that should be reported and even posted publicly to warn the community. But I wouldn't report someone trying to get some traffic their way or if they ask me to take a look at something they made, etc. Live and let others live. Not responding is enough sometimes.

Do you think there might be a reason why the person PMed you about these scripts and not one of the thousands of other users of Bitcointalk? Have you ever posted on the forum that you would be interested in buying or exchanging those scripts with someone?
It mostly happens when you reply to a certain thread or service thread of the person. I also received an unsolicited PM from one of the newbie accounts and in their service thread I had just a few suggestions concerning their website

I don't know why they thought that I would be interested in buying their script, especially given the fact that they have negative feedback about trying to buy forum accounts

Report any unsolicited PMs

No actually not. it was - BitSwapNow - https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/m.61020132
He probably saw this thread I created: https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/m.62388318
But he has a thread also for his service, so maybe what he did is not illegal, but I did not use his service, i dont like when people try to force me to use things.  Smiley

Thanks

With sending personal message to you (and probably some other users) and advertising his/her service, the user in question broke rule number 29.

29. Sending unsolicited PMs, including but not limited to advertising and flood, is not allowed.

Report the message you received to admins. He/she will be probably banned.

Yes, it's not legal or maybe acceptable here on this forum for a member to advertise a service through P.M if they don't have an ulterior motive, because any legit business will do an open advertisement on the "Service board" of the forum, and not hide under the shadow of the forum sending messages to random users looking for a possible victim that will likely far for their scam. So whenever you see such, you either report it here or ignore it, which someone earlier suggested.

If not and it's completely random, there is surely a nefarious reason behind the offer. Report, delete, and don't look back.

They targeted most gambling board active posters who normally post on the casino ANN, I have identical messages in my inbox but from different accounts so I'm guessing he's the same person, got nuked and create new account to continue.

When you receive such messages in the future, all you have to do is report them and delete the message after reporting them. Those accounts will be banned, especially if it is a newbie account (less than 16 or 30 activity)

I receive many of these messages and rarely read them but what I have learned is that there is a pattern in your posts that made them feel like you could be a victim of scam.

If op get such messages, it is better to delete them. and report is required before deletion. However, since the account is brand new and has no activity, this account may not be banned due to the report. But op can stop receiving messages from Newbie to avoid such spamming. he/she can just follow the step bellow

PROFILE =>Personal Message Options => disable, Allow newbies to send you PMs =>change profile

That would be a good thing. Because most of the spamming is done through newbie accounts

I will also go by this option because it's one of the perfect measures to silent all forms of distractions like this in receiving PMs, some of them could be as annoying as anything, for those that sees a need to taking such decision there's no problem, but we also may consider not taking this action because of those involved in rendering their  services through the forum platforms and their patronages may simply comes through newbie accounts for their offer, but if you don't have any reason to enable receiving messages from newbies then one can go ahead to disallow that.

Problem will be, you will miss to communicate with legit users who are newbie but need your help. The type of PM OP received are very common on the forum and you do not need to be an expert to understand what they want from these PMs. Just delete it or report it to the admin or ignore.

Don't need to make it a big deal.
That's it. You can't eat your cake and have it.
Thought it might solve one issue, it would as well prevent them newbie accounts that could have come with some good intell. Perhaps they could buy  a copper membership but, not many are into doing that. Probably because they won't see the need or just aren't aware.

Still, treating these suspicious users case by case won't be so bad. You just be mindful of what messages you ply into just like the OP. You do your research both on the offers and the individual to have sent the pm. Taking into account not to have your greed lead you. It's always there to make you fall.

I do not know how many people here must have received such message. I just want to let the platform know about this so that nobody would fall for this trick by this account holder @proxy3200.
Probably not many users received a message from him since he is a newbie and has a PM restriction due to his rank. Since his rank is a newbie with zero activity, he won't be able to send more than two PMs daily.

Quote
If they are looking for this services what stops them from making an official announcement on the service board for others to see rather than sending message to my dm if they do not have a sinister motive. I would advise anyone dealing with them to be extremely cautious
This is a scam attempt, for sure. Why do they try to sell those scripts if such scripts work? They can make unlimited money by using thewn scripts and not selling them. Here this guy tried to exchange a script. Who knows, maybe his scripts contain malicious codes that can harm your computer, and you might get hacked.

I thought as much too because I see no reason why one would want to sell such script when in the real sense one could get a fortune out of it then I realized there is more to it than I thought. Possibly, there could be something more to this script than we could think of. Maybe just a you have said the possibility of it being  coded for some nefarious act and these scammers do pick possible targets so as to infiltrate their devices with virus with codes if their targets do buy or exchange script with them.

Although it is on the safe side I take precautionary measures to safeguard my account and reputation but that shouldn't be a thing to worry about.
The precautionary measures are already given by the system in red large font.

It is not a big deal but taking precautionary measures is very important.  I have had this experience of this similar thing in the past so my posting it here was just to  let the platform know. I do not really know if other people have received this type of message from this particular profile but atleast people who have seen this post are now aware of this profile and the unsolicited spam messages the account profile sends spamming members privacy.
Although it is on the safe side I take precautionary measures to safeguard my account and reputation but that shouldn't be a thing to worry about.

It seems the user has registered the account only for advertising purposes.

You are correct. The account is only for advertising purposes but s/he is not doing it the right way. I doubt they will last longer than this before they will be banned.
The account is promoting a service he passed a disclaimer on
Quote
I am not the owner of this script I am just a reseller. Use this at your own risk
Yet, he is taking it to PM. Such projects should be promoted on a neutral ground.
However, little insight in the script showed it's a scam.

I don't know if proxy3200 has been nuked already because I checked their profile and met zero activity, post and merit.
The user hasn't been banned. It would be reported on BPIP if he\she had been banned.
According to loyce.club, the user had made 1 post which has been deleted by moderators.

It seems that the user has registered the account only for advertising purposes.

I don't know if proxy3200 has been nuked already because I checked their profile and met zero activity, post and merit. It is very unlikely that someone who hasn't dropped a single post on the forum will go ahead to pm random people, unless they are scammer. Even at that, a scammer should atleast make themselves somewhat believeable.

Op, consider to active the function that prevents newbies to message you and be safe.
Meanwhile, I have gotten some random messages from people who wants me to promote their project via my signature and then, they don't have any Ann thread and that doesn't imply they are scammers.
