Does it make sense to mine on Linux with an RX480? I have 2 reservations, Driver/OC software compability and I might want to use a multi algo switching service like nicehash, which is probably more complex on Linux. Any thoughts on this? Thanks!

I think it is good to mine the Ethereum with RX 480 in Linux. But the overclocking tool is not as good as in the Windows.

You can access all relevant parameters like clocks, voltages etc (except timings) in Linux through /sys and i2c.
Any reasonable programmer could write overclocking tool for himself.

The Linux does not have driver signature check. So you can use the customer bios cards and run there smoothly.

What would be a good PSU to go with 5x Sapphire nitro cards and is it simple to do the bios firmware upgrade to lower wattage or a good all round mod where less watts more hash or a good ratio between more wattage and more hash. Whats the max the sapphires are going up to are they above 30MH?

sapphire rx 480 nitro 4gb here is about 71$ cheaper than 8gb model of sapphire rx 480 nitro

any thoughts? will 4gb will take a hit in dagger algos like 3gb 280xs in the near future?

I haven't had time to mess around much with mine, but it only gets 22Mh out of the box.

The memory will happily overclock to 2000 but performance only increases by .5Mh .

I'd say the bios is in need of some adjustment.

My order of MSI RX480 8gb custom cards arrived today.  Just pulled one out of the box and all I can say is WOW, this card has huge heat sinks, and huge fans.  Very impressive looking card.  I hope it runs as good as it looks!  Hopefully some of the mods you guys have done will work with these cards.  Looks like MSI did a very nice job on these cards.  I probably won't find out for a few days.  I am very excited to see how this batch of cards run.

The 75 watt and 150 watt "ratings" are PCI-E design spec limitations, NOT connector specifications.

That is right. But the AMD will draw no more than 75W from the PICE 6pin.
That is the reason they burnt many PCIE slot on MB and MBs.

Yup, they're building PCI-E spec cards, so they are SUPPOSED to limit to the PCI-E specs.

ASIC miner aren't PCI-E spec cards, they don't HAVE to limit to those specs.

There is a change from the AMD side. For the reference cards, it will draw more from the PCIE 6pin, but will restrict the PCIE slots.
