I agree with previous comments that after new merit system getting new rank is enough difficult process. Even if you create goog posts, nobody wants to sent a merit.

You are completely lost, you should read the meta section of the forum. The rank requires activity and merit. Activity is time and posts and merit is given by other users.
Few months ago it is a little much easier to rank here,that is why most of the people are posting spams to get rank faster,the owner of this forum which is theymos decided to fight the spam and shitposters that is why he made merit system that will force all of the people to post only good quality contents for you to be able to get some merit points that you will need to get rank up.
Nowadays, bitcointalk rank is hard to get, your post and merit work side by side. Before you are given a merit, you must have post a vital information on the bitcointalk that people appreciate, means that... Your IQ is highly needed to take you to next level.
Last year there are no merits required but now we have the merit system which reqquired for you to be able to get rank,activities and merits should be achieve before you will get into next level,which is quite hard because not all of your posts will be appreciated by all the people so there will be less chances of getting high rank accounts here in bitcointalk today.
It is really very hard to rank up after the merit system was implemented because even you have a good and constructive posts still it seems no one will give you a merits. I just hope that it will requires us to give merits every month so that everyone will cooperate to merit a post. Anyway, I supported this new rules because our family in this forum is getting bigger that the need to control spamming from the new members is a must.
After a merit reform was done , you have to earn a certain amount of merits for every new forum rank . Merit can be received from other users , if they decide to highlight your post as a really helpful . So , in order to rank up , you must work hard to make a hi quality posts , which will be merited . There is a new rules now in the forum, I guess all of us here knows about it, isn't? And the major hindrances for everyone here was the Merit system, unlike before they are all depend only in the activity post but now our rank up will be base on activity post and merits requirements.
I no longer count on raising my rank. The new rules do not allow for an increase. not really get measured and I doubt that there will be changes

You are partially right, but get it right that both post count and merit now work side by side, you must have the allotted post count and merit before you move from any rank to another.
Yes is still the same as the previous ranking system. Just added merit to avoid Shitposter. So much more difficult now to rank up because it is based on the quality of your post.

even your online everyday your rank will need merit to rank so if can't get one your rank will stock to jr.member
Bitcoin talk has turn to what no one ever expected and am shot of words because I don't really know how the new rules of rank upgrading works before from 30 Activities you become a Jr. Member and 60 Activities you become a Member and so on but now I have 98 Activities still in Jr. Member sorry to say bitcoin talk is now more valuable than gold except those who don't know the value and I believe all cryptocurrency community knows the value of bitcoin talk rank. Ranking on Bitcointalk use to be automatic. You contribute quality post and the forum promote you base on your number of your post and activities. Then came a lots of newbie who only want to spam the forum to get what they want that was the point where merit system came in to safe the forum from spam and scam.
After the introduction of the merit system, it became difficult to raise its rank. Especially for a beginner. I think that we need to revise this system somehow.

It is very hard to up a rank now. You can make a good post and get only 1-2 merits) But I think the quality of posts is increased.

before, every 2 weeks, your activity will update by adding 14. and if you reach the activity needed, you will rank up. But now, from newbie to jr.member you need to have 30 activity to rank up, afterwards to rank up member from jr.member, their are two factors needed. You need to reach the activity requirements and merits too. Activity is not that hard to have, but the merits one make it hard.

This forum had been a lot of changes since it was published in public last 2013 and they indeed made some adjustments on how members will push their ranks into higher level.
The Merit system is until now a debate if it's effective or not, most of new members are indeed affected especially English isn't the native language of the most members in this forum.
I just fount it a good purpose to push rank when they deserve. I mean, meaningful replies, comments and posts will do have a good chances to step up UT otherwise most members will be stuck in their current rank since early January after the birth of Merit system.
Anyway, you could find some answer to this thread when you bump on Meta Section in this forum.
Read them and learn from them and don't bother to act non sense activities so that you'll not being awarded a red ribbon on your profile like me.

I hardly doubt the merit system will be removed from BitcoinTalk. I guess we all have to start making guides and tutorials in order to get a higher rank.
The norms of this forum will change know the merits system is going on, you can only upgrade your rank if you have required merits for that level which you can obtain from any other Sr. Member and above rank Member like your posts and rewarded you with some merits.

When I registrated it was only need activity for changing ranks (28 posts every 2 weeks). Now you need also merits from other participants. They can give it to you if you make useful posts.
It`s was 14 activity maximum every 2 weeks, if you are active and that means 2 comments minimum every day, 5 comments every day for 6 days. People were selling some profiles with a lot of comments, you could buy and wait certain time to pass and you would become higher rank, now that can`t happen.Merit system changed all, now people have trouble to get to higher ranks. I don`t think that merit is the perfect system, but it is what it is. Now people advance to next rank slower and if you want to advance to next rank you really need to make huge effort and to be unique in some way, only like that you can draw some attention and get some merit.

To rank in this forum nowadays is very hard. This is because of the implementation of the merit system and we cannot do anything about it. To rank up you need to consider two factors: activity and merit. Both of which are hard to earn because when you talk about activity, it is time based and it depends in the time duration since you created your BCT account. Merit on the other hand, requires quality posting which this forum truly lacks and remember that your posts is what makes this forum. Keep in mind that you will not rank up even though you have reached the required number of activities because you also need to reach the number of acquired merit. if you want to ride your rank of jr-member, you should see its rule, your old level of list in the forum has no effect, the priority is merit and activity. if you often ngepost with quality in terms of useful for the readers then you will be given merit

There was activity brackets to reach and each week you activity counter will go up 14 each other week depending on the number of post you have. Now, this forum made a new format to increase your ranking by earning merits hand to hand with your number of posts and activity. It's harder now since other people need to give you merits. These people could only give you merits if they have sMerits.

Ranking system is no more based on activities it is now based on both activities and merit.. Ppl will now hang long in one rank because of this.. Though it seems good with the new system but it's also too hard to get merit..
You need to post inorder to rank up. But there's addition to the rule, aside from the post, you need to get merit from your posts inorder for you to rank up. You can find it actually in the thread. Just search it and you will know how the new rules on how to rank up. Thank you.
FFS. Why people posting on the off-topic thread. Most of the replies are whining about the merit systems and the rank up problem on the Altcoin Discussion section. No wonder why they can't even get a merits.
There are new system now, ranking in this forum based on number of merit, and not based on activity or number of post anymore. So to increase ranking will be more difficult than before, but the purpose of this system just want to make this forum more usefull and give more benefits for everyone.

its about how long your online in th forum,together with the post you made so the activity will increase,then after all of that the most important is the merit in which will be given to you buy those users that seeing your post as quality,valuable and encouraging to be in every topic..with all of this you will rank up upto the highest if you can achieve 
I would say its impossible to rank up with the new merit system unless you post something really extraordinary, like a guide on how to get free bitcoin or something. People who already ranked up before this of course likes the new merit system since its less people in signature campaings with high ranks which allows them earn more money. So I feel sorry for new members who didn't rank up to at least to full member before all this merit system took place.

I agree that it is very difficult to earn merit points as it's not being replenished consistently as well.
I guess the bct admins put it in place as there were lots of abuses in the ranking system wherein user take advantage of signature campaigns.

I have a lot of friends whom I referred here for bounty campaign and they stopped posting because of the new ranking system, it will take you a lot of time if you do not get good merits here, I hope they only implement this for full member and up

Rank is based on your quality of your post and the total number of your activity. But for now we have merit system its hard to rank up now from member to fullmember and other higher rank only staff moderator and other wellknown member this forum receives merits thats why newbies needs help to upgrade their rank. 
It's all about the number of your posts(easy) and number of merits(very hard). I agree that this is a double edged sword. Many shit posters are lucky to have achieved high ranking positions in this forum since they posted like crazy before this change and ranked up quickly, but the merit system also helps in decreasing spam to a huge extent now since more and more members will focus on writing quality posts rather than spewing shit posts here and there which is why it is a double edged sword. In my opinion, this change is worth it since I can already see the quality of posts in this forum improving and the spam seems to be reducing. its about how long your online in th forum,together with the post you made so the activity will increase,then after all of that the most important is the merit in which will be given to you buy those users that seeing your post as quality,valuable and encouraging to be in every topic..with all of this you will rank up upto the highest if you can achieve You need to have enough activity and merit to rank up .

Your current merit is 0 which means you have not received any merits from any curator. When you will start posting the quality posts then you will see curators getting attracted to you. All the best and keep the forum clean.

when this system has been changed, you are required to get merit to increase your rank, not just aktivity
so you have to work hard and make a good post to get merit. but I think it's very difficult. I myself still have not got it merit until now.
One of the last things you'll find when you log in to the crypto money market is rank. in fact, it is very precious and balances between people. just need some patience

people dont give merit here, actually, even if you do good posts you wont be rewarded, so just be member and be active, over time your rank rises, we all dont know how long this forum will matter, sooner or later there will be more neutral cryptoforums, that are popular i personally dont believe in the continual success of the bitcoin sect.

Rank still depends on the number of activities you have regardless on how long you've joined in this forum. But the forum added merit points, You need to met required number of activities and number of merits before you rank up.
To be Member requires 10 merit and 30 active.
In general, 30 active only need about a month you can gain, but merit need you publish high quality posts, so when you get their approval, they will give you some merit.

to rank, you have to be diligent to post, and there are posts must be informative that can be useful for other users, from newbie to jr member may not need merit, but to ride from jr member to member you must have at least 10 merit,
to get merit, you have to post it on another user's treadh, and if it can be useful for that user, chances are you will get merit which can help you to raise the rank.

The old rule states that to rise the rank, the user must meet the requirements of the post in order to rise the rankBut the new rules have been issued with a merit system

Merit is only given by other users who feel helped by your post or maybe the thread you created is very useful
