we actually do have an anti asic philosophy, we are still in the process of deciding on the best algorithm to go with.

it'll likely be adaptive n tho so we will be compatible with vtc miners, and likely when the new sgminer supports it. we will also have to give people plenty of notification of the change over.

Have you read a thread about proposed switch of LTC to another algo?

Fascinating answer by LTC devs:
https://litecointalk.org/index.php?topic=18166.0

My favorite (bold mine):

Quote
any Bitcoin-like network that relies upon large quantities of greedy miners to outdo each other to maintain network security

Considering current 0.1 difficulty and 8Mh/s network speed I think ASIC resistance is the last thing devs need to be working on right now.

i've known coblees stance on this since confronting him about it, because originally litecoin was created in answer to the asics coming onto bitcoin, coblee's view of litecoin (as you can see in interviews long ago as well as the original design docs of litecoin) was that it was SUPPOSED to be against asics. the majority of litecoin users actually are highly against asics as been shown in the various polls posted on reddit bitcointalk and litecoin talk as well as asking people in the #litecoin channel.

i'm part of the litecoin association and have talked to coblee and warren multiple times about their stance in the face of users wanting to be against asics... finally gave up trying to convince them of anything when coblee stated that 'this isn't a democracy'

unfortunately in my opinion (as well as many other people) coblees post about asic resistance is bullshit. i suggest you actually read the user responses on that thread that aren't kissing ass
such as:

"Imho the only reason for LTC to exist (as an 100% BTC copy) was when there were no ASIC for it.

Since there is now the exactly same asic-arms race in LTC as in BTC, there is no reason for me left to use it other than trading it just for profit like i do with every other shitcoin, no reason left to "support" it furthermore as an "new currency". it just became one of the vast amount of copycat-shitcoins but with an still bigger community remaining, ... yet ;o)

So i try to support that currency of the future elsewhere, bye Wink"

in the end its hard to take any talk on the litecoin forums seriously anymore because of how much just outright bullshit there is.

both warren and coblee keep talking about how 'forking' a coin to do this is too risky... however what they don't say is how simple it is if actually organized properly... hell even for a 'big' coin forks haven't been a huge deal... bitcoins even done it

as to whether you think that its 'the last thing' 'devs need to be working on right now' or whatever, you are entitled to your opinions, but at the end of the day you aren't paying their wages.

This coin needs to be on a different algo to scrypt.

ASIC farm fodder as it stands now.

FCK the Banks! HELL yeah!

I'll support the coin when the devs have an ASIC resistant philosophy applied to the coin.
