Put it in long term coins, which you can be found when you do your own research,do not ask us which is which because different people has different point of views so you need to know it yourself because your investments would be your responsibility.I suggest choose coins which has a great plaform and product that they are offering because good products would have a better future than those coins who doesnt have any.

What would you consider a reasonable return on your investment after 12 to 18 months (your investment is locked for 18 months with no access to it)? Minimum investment would be $500...

$500 worth of investment after a year an a half probably will reach a minimum of two times, that is $500 Wil turn into $1,500 but that's only an estimated speculations because in Crypto Market they're all about speculating the price value and nobody's really seeing what happens next.
I am lucky because I do own an Altcoin that is PRL that is only worth $0.0005 last year November and then pumped as high as average of $4.8 in January so I my $1,000 was turned into almost $150,000.

My expecting of a reasonable return for 12 to 18 months will be at least 10x. Given the rate bitcoin grow in 2017 for a year. If you are saying that the my capital will be locked for the period, I will expect 20x returns.

So putting it into context, the crypto itself is being used to fund a bricks n mortar business. The product being produced has a very low production cost but extremely high market price (due to limited supply). The only reason crypto is being considered is that they don't want to give away any of the business but need to raise capital, its high risk but the return is pretty high, the problem (which is nice to have) is that the ROI is absurd making it seem scammy....

If $500 returned $10k in 18 months, would that be a good return or is it too good to be true....

Let's start with this, it's possible but not all that likely. There will be many who have achieved that but you'd have to hold a fairly risky portfolio, it's unlikely if you hold major coins like bitcoin/eth.

Anything greater than 0 is reasonable. Over 18 months I would personally aim for about a 5x return. As I said above, more is possible and as is less. The more risk averse you are the less likely you are to achieve big results. For a new investor I would recommend BTC, ETH and maybe 2-3 other currencies of your choosing. Once you've wet your feet you can be a little more risky in your choices.

I wont invest that long, maybe 12 months will do but not 18months, and also it depends if the project is good and the personnel, advisors are reputable maybe ill consider that because were not talking about small here since 500$ is the minimum amount to invest. Think twice before u act.
