Professor Claims Global Warming Caused Nepal Earthquake

So not only does global warming cause volcanoes, but it also caused the massive earthquake that rocked Nepal Saturday and killed thousands of people.

“It now appears that there exists a clear relationship between the global warming and earthquakes and other under earth activities,” writes Dr. Vivek Kumar Srivastava, an assistant professor at India’s Kanpur University.

Srivastava argues that when permafrost melts in the Arctic “and associated areas due to the increased global temperature, it is quite likely that the under located areas of the earth are affected due to alteration in the pressure on the earth crust.” He adds that when “water level on the seas and oceans increase due to the increased water quantity caused by the global warming, impact on the inside zones of earth can cause many tremors.”

Nepal and surrounding areas were hit with a 7.8 magnitude earthquake Saturday that toppled houses and killed more than 3,000 people. So far, officials say that a further 6,500 people have been injured and responders are continuing to rescue climbers around Mount Everest. On Sunday, a massive aftershock rocked the region, exacerbating the damage.

India’s PM Claims Yoga Can Stop Global Warming…

India’s prime minister says people will have to change their lifestyles and develop a harmony with nature if the world is to avoid dangerous levels of climate change.

In a speech at UNESCO headquarters in Paris, Narendra Modi said different paths to “economic wellbeing” should be explored by world leaders.

He recommended yoga as one way of fighting climate change, as it offered people a sense of “harmony with self, society and nature” and could create a “social consciousness”.

“In India faith and nature have had a deep meaning since ancient times – for us only path is a sustainable one,” he said.

Kofi Annan: Eat Bugs To Stop Global Warming

Would you, you and your wife, set the example for the rest of us, all future non elite bug eater peasants?

Former United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan wants you to eat more insects. Why? It’s better for the environment and your health, he argues.

“Keeping meat consumption to levels recommended by health authorities would lower emissions and reduce heart disease, cancer, and other diseases,” Annan told The Guardian Sunday.

“And of course there are alternative sources of protein. For example, raising insects as an animal protein source,” Annan said. “Insects have a very good conversion rate from feed to meat. They make up part of the diet of two billion people and are commonly eaten in many parts of the world.”

“Eating insects is good for the environment and balanced diets,” Annan said.

In December, U.N. delegates are expected to hash out a successor to the now-expire Kyoto Protocol at this year’s United Nations climate summit in Paris.

For years, the U.N. has advocated eating bugs as a way to offset livestock production. The international body says there are more than 1,900 types of edible bugs on the planet. The U.N. also says livestock is a major emitter of greenhouse gas emissions, mostly from methane.

“Insects are reported to emit fewer greenhouse gases and less ammonia than cattle or pigs, and they require significantly less land and water than cattle rearing,” the U.N. reported in 2013. “Compared with mammals and birds, insects may also pose less risk of transmitting zoonotic infections to humans, livestock and wildlife, although this topic requires further research.”

These “peak beefers” also note that insects “are a highly nutritious and healthy food source with high fat, protein, vitamin, fibre and mineral content.”

The Obama administration recently outlined a plan to reduce methane emissions from the livestock industry, but the administration has yet to ask Americans to incorporate bugs into their diets.

“The global livestock industry is indeed a major threat to the climate as it represents 14.5% of all human-caused greenhouse gas emissions according to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations,” Annan said. “A growing population and a rapidly growing middle class are increasing pressure on the traditional protein sources, beef and poultry meat, making it more difficult to meet demand.”

“We cannot continue the way we are producing and consuming meat,” he added. “Obviously, this should not go as far as governments telling people what to eat.”

Research Highlight: Arctic Sea Ice Loss Likely To Be Reversible
Scenarios of a sea ice tipping point leading to a permanently ice-free Arctic Ocean were based on oversimplified arguments

New research by Till Wagner and Ian Eisenman, scientists at Scripps Institution of Oceanography, UC San Diego, resolves a long-running debate over irreversible Arctic sea ice loss.

Ever since the striking record minimum Arctic sea ice extent in 2007, the ominous scenario of a sea ice tipping point has been a fixture in the public debate surrounding man-made climate change and a contingency for which Arctic-bordering countries have prepared.

For decades, scientists have been concerned about such a point of no return, beyond which sea ice loss is irreversible. This concern was supported by mathematical models of the key physical processes (known as process models) that were believed to drive sea ice changes. The process models forecasted that increased global warming would push the Arctic into an unstoppable cascade of melting that ceases only when the ocean becomes ice-free. ......

Not only does global warming cause volcanoes to erupt, their eruptions also help tackle global warming. So, the solution seems to be to increase the output of greenhouse gases so that enough volcanoes erupt to totally eradicate the problem. Good luck, g

Why not just simply push 4.5 billion humans into erupting volcanoes and solve global warming for at least... 1 000 000 000 years?

No it doesn't.  And no, volcanic eruptions don't do anything for any problem we have.

If you want to argue this then present data to support the crazy.  Your linky to a Marxist political science lecturer does not qualify as evidence.Let's see what you've got.  Actual peer reviewed research papers that support your claim.

Alternately you are welcome to calculate and show directly the stress on the planet's crust from the various factors mentioned by that bumbling fool of a socialist.  Go ahead, show the increased weight of the higher oceans.  Show the effect of that over the position of the Moon, including tidal stresses.... and show it's force relative to known stress levels causing earthquakes.

Have the GW loyal faithful have descended now to the level of 9/11 conspiracy theorists?

Can volcanoes tackle climate change?

Two hundred years ago a volcanic eruption cooled the Earth. Could it help us tackle global warming today?

The island of Sumbawa in what is now Indonesia began to crack apart 200 years ago this week. On 10 April 1815, an explosion that could be heard a thousand miles away announced the largest volcanic eruption in recorded history. Mount Tambora, once among the highest peaks in the East Indies, was blown in half. Thousands in the immediate vicinity were killed by lava, wind, ash, fire and tsunamis, but the volcano’s effects echoed far further and longer. The force of the explosion catapulted millions of tonnes of sulphur miles upwards into the stratosphere where it was held aloft. A haze encircled the planet, providing it with a temporary sunshade. Over the next three years, Tambora cooled the surface of the planet by a degree celsius. ... more

When you post CERTAINTY on complex scientific issues based on the opinions of one man, you need to reassess your thinking a bit.

But when you post CERTAINTY on complex scientific issues based on the opinions of one man who is a "professor of political science," would it bother you if we just laughed?

No?

Thanks.

OH - BY THE WAY?

Your Dr. Nutcase has some very interesting beliefs.  For example, let's look at what he thinks about Hugo Chavez.

All such measures have changed much in Venezuela. The success of New Socialism attests that governance in the poor and developing countries can create wonders if power elites have the will, vision and commitment to themasses. Hugo Chavez proved it. He is destined to be a part of the folklore of the Venezuelan society in the years tocome.

The "Success of New Socialism"?  Last I heard Venezuela wasn't doing too well.
