What a cry baby hilariousetc is...

I leave *neutral* trust feedback on his page, he gives me negative trust feedback...

Definitely trust abuse by hilariousetc
@LoyceV @theymos @suchmoon @ibminer

A crybaby? Says the guy pettily shitting all over my wall at every opportunity. You made me an offer I couldn't refuse. Don't make deals if you don't want to honour them. And If anyone is abusing the feedback page it's you. It's not for smearing shit all over. It's for trust issues. And I don't trust you for multiple reasons. You lie and you post nonsense and not just on my wall. If you want I can update it but it'll just be echoing all the other negative and warranted feedback you've received. Maybe find something better to do than trying to write as much crap on people's walls like a teenager with a graffiti can and you probably wouldn't be viewed as such.

Good lord. Do you get off every time you post something on my feedback page because you sure seem to have a hard-on for doing it? The feedback system if for reputation, it's not a graffiti wall for you to post links to threads on your shitty ideas  Roll Eyes.

You shit on my page, I shit on your page.

Deal?

Please refrain from giving false hope. We're only a halving or two away from that and I think it would take a medium-sized miracle to make EpochTalk usable within the next 8 years.
That's if you're considering block fees. When the transaction fee is at parity with the block reward, we will have reached a most interesting equilibrium point.

Fair enough. I concede that this timeline is indeed feasible.

ETA: when we reach Bitcoin reward-to-fee parity. You'll get there faster if you take a couple space trips quick enough.

Is there an ETA for when the new forum is to be fully out? I see the github commits on the discord bot, but other than that not much Sad

There's already a poo emoji which could represent all shitcoins: 💩

Maybe theymos can implement that for us. Or put it on a coin:

I think I'd actually like to see a shitcoin emoji/logo  Cheesy.

Can't we just move to the new forum, instead of asking for new elements to be added on this old-forum? Its been so many years that the forum has been under development, so it only makes more sense.

It's not that easy just to migrate to Epochtalk. ETA will be determine by the users, see the below quote. At the moment there are a few running forums with Epochtalk and one of them is supported by Cyrus team so if anyone want to join and help with bug hunting is very welcome here > https://coinbistro.com
If we don't do anything the project will never come to life.
In short: If you want the software quicker, go run your own forum with it, and work to get any problems or missing features you find resolved via bug reports, etc. This would increase public interest, provide much-needed testing, and I might even hire you to work on bitcointalk.org when we're ready to do the final transition here.

Even that I don't agree 100% with theymos on that, for me it will be easier to hire a proper QA and do the job for a month or two instead of dragging this project for years and years, I'm trying to help with it when I have time, like everyone should do.

@OP I get you idea but we have the most important sign, BTC it's enough for me. Let the other altcoin forums bang their heads in the wall on the new shtcoin signs.... Wink

The first thing that comes to mind is how to determine which coins are "top coins": market cap is never a good measure, trade volume is faked by many exchanges, forum activity is hyped by spammers, and that's just off the top of my head.

Perhaps transaction volume?

Other than that, I don't see much harm. But it feels wrong to give altcoins significance by adding their symbol on a forum about Bitcoin.

I've read a couple of times the notion that this is a BitCoin Forum - true, it wouldn't be called bitcointalk dot org if it wasn't, however from what I can tell much earlier than when I first joined in 2013 many alt coins have been launched here on this bitcoin forum.  I have no doubt that there has even been cross-pollination of ideas between bitcoin and the alts that share the car park.

Wow, I was surprised at the voting results.

At first the votes went the other way - I think a few people changed their minds/votes.  Undecided

And those other symbols OP suggested aren't bad ones to add, either (except perhaps the ones for gender; that's a Pandora's box that I don't think ought to be opened).

I just grabbed a bunch from Open Office to show the potential symbols that could be used.

the fact remains that bitcointalk does have an altcoin section, and the traffic it draws probably isn't insignificant.
The quality of the altcoin section is quite insignificant. It's mainly populated by spammers.

What's the harm in creating some symbols for ETH and a few of the other top coins?

Wow, I was surprised at the voting results.

I don't frequent the altcoin section much anymore, but I think it would be a great idea to have symbols for at least some of the most popular altcoins--and though I'm not a coder I can't imagine it would take a lot of extra effort to implement something like this.

And those other symbols OP suggested aren't bad ones to add, either (except perhaps the ones for gender; that's a Pandora's box that I don't think ought to be opened).  I'm pretty satisfied with how bitcointalk looks and functions, but I do think it could use some little additions like these.

Just writing ETH makes it perfectly clear what you mean. Only Bitcoin should get special treatment on a forum about Bitcoin.

Lot of reserved posts Smiley
But looks like majority of people have spoken:
So far 78.1% are against adding Ethereum or any other altcoin symbols.

Yeh, I probably shouldn't have given people the option to change their vote (I wonder if people don't realise I can't see who voted for what?)  I could always clear the tally and start the voting again? (Nah)  Grin

The reserved are for other symbols, or for suggested symbol names etc.

Just as a side question, how do people differentiate between the "other" bitcoins?  (e.g. Cash, SV (shudder) - or even Lightning Network)??
Call them what they are: BCH, BSV, Forkcoin, Forgotten, .... I wouldn't use the BTC-symbol for it.

For LN, I just make up something like "Bitcoin Lightning", but if it gets bigger it needs an "official" name. I can think of BTCLN or just "BTC Lightning".
Mention me please if you open a topic about it.

One thing that we open up with the introduction of more and more symbols is the idea of confusables. Obviously, your additional of an [eth] symbol doesn't reach this but the introduction of further symbols starts to teeter towards the plagiarism dodging.

Example: p ; ρ  | o ; ɒ  (source)

I've seen a few discussions about varying symbols being slotted in to trick people, my Mobile alt uses a zero in the main and a letter oh - Oscar in the mobile alt.  So far no one seems silly enough to impersonate either with even more complex variations.

Just writing ETH makes it perfectly clear what you mean. Only Bitcoin should get special treatment on a forum about Bitcoin.

It seems like the question is mostly decided. (At least your AI can reference the thread from now on in examples Wink )
