Bitcoin needs a currency crisis, don't worry it's coming.

+1

The whole "alt-coin" episode of crypto has been a great thing.

It's proven the resilience of Bitcoin in the marketplace against blockchains which supersede it technologically. It's survived a whole flotilla of them without a dent and that's going to go down in its history as an extremely important "rights of passage" phase for Bitcoin.

No serious money is ever going get into cryptos without confidence getting into it first. Seeing off thousands of competing alternatives in the marketplace is about as good as you can get.

Altcoins 2013.. it was a thing.

Like a chart graph it went up and down and i don't think we're going back up
and the one major key reason prices will not go back up is because of the horrendous reputation this Altcoin scene has.

Something I wondered about, and asked you in one of the other threads, but that thread sort of got buried under tons of other threads...

What coins are you currently mining or invested in? I'll take it that you have btc and jackpot coin, but what else?

For the last several months you have basically been all gloom and doom ... sky is falling, solar storms will wipe out cryptos, regulation is needed, and so on. All this time I just assumed you were heavily into btc, expecting if alts crashed, people instead would gravitate towards btc (faulty thinking, but a touch of logic to it).

Many of the coins out there are a complete waste of time. But that's the tricky part, finding what coins may have something unique about them. The market is geared entirely towards short term holding right now, unless a coin has active and constant development. Hold a generic, okay-ish coin from months and months ago, and it'll fall .... and why wouldn't it, unless it somehow gained real world usage or improved its features in relation to the competition?

As for what would possibly improve things .... in my opinion, btc will need to gain more adoption -- major adoption from a decent size company would certainly help -- then increase in price, and then drag some of the alts along with it. That Winklevoss btc fund could also help, although I haven't kept track of where it is right now, or if it's still planned.

It's simply a joke riddled with thieves and corruption and greedy selfish scammers (and scam supporters) etc
If there is a way for someone to make 1/1 milion'th of a cent and as it damages the Altcoin scene guys will fumble over themselves to do it..
and this is exactly what has happened.

I know many of you (still here) ARE optimistic and some of you have after all this time given up hope ..Hi Krichwins Wink
But in all honesty, i don't see much to look forward to for Altcoins.. The Damage is done !

I said for a year supporting shit coins while turning your backs on legit devs etc would destroy the scene and look around guys..
It's a ghost town and the huge crowd that flooded into Crypto have left long ago.. evidenced by the sharp decline in coin values last few months.
The scene has died and i think it's possibly going to get a lot worse ..maybe soon ?

Don't agree ? You guys all think we're doing great ?
Not too many coins these days are higher than they were a few months back.. they just keep getting lower and lower.

I predicted it every step of the way and explained why and how to stop it and how i didn't think anyone would lift a finger to do anything either.

So here we are..

Optimism huh ? About what ?
What is it you guys think is going to attract a whole new huge crowd of guys ?
I think the kind of guys who think that are being foolish and gullible and are just feeding guys who want to cash out right now.
Your optimism = Crypto-Predator food LOL

So if it's not some big crowd of new guys coming into the Altcoin scene then what is it that will resurrect crypto and create way higher coin values ?

I said early in December 2013 that i was embarrassed for all of you that posted on the Doge coin ANN topic supporting it.
I knew then and now that was the death blow to crypto !
That was the last straw and the highlight of all this scammy greedy corrupt crap.
And i am not sure i can find one single other person that posted what i said either on the Doge coin topic.. i was by myself !

I think it's sad because of what could have been.
Rather than focusing on attracting the Richard Branson's who takes Bitcoin for Virgin Galactic for trips into outer space,
we have Doge idiot bag holders lying about it being better than Bitcoin across the planet acting like greedy, obnoxious, deceitful, pyramid scheme pushers !
And that new crowd you guys think is coming will Google Search it all and see all the guys who lost money on this crap and think.... nope sorry.

And yeah i know plenty about this stuff i coined the name "Altcoin scene"
When i started using it a ton of people use to bitch at me about that and say "it's not a scene"
And all i can say about it now is..

Altcoins 2013 - RIP.. it was a thing.

There are also very good altcoins out there which are better then bitcoin and have very good development. They are not all pump and dump scams and no, altcoins movement is not dead.

this is true, until cryptonote appeared there was nothing like it, time will tell if monero will be able to keep leading the anon scene.

I also think that cryptonote will break through. In fact I can see at least 2 cryptonotes occupying the space that Bitcoin occupies now.

As for Bitcoin, it's hard to believe that so little has been done with $billions in market cap. The whales could have created a huge open-source industry around BTC (like Redhat did with GNU/Linux). Instead we have had pathetic tiny incremental changes (usually forced on them by scandals like 'transaction malleability'). We still have the crappy QT GUI and the shitty JSON i/f. Almost no development towards financial and banking features such as escrow support, security etc.

No I see either a big investment moving into the BTC space or even a growing and well managed dev team from the ALT world that can scale out like Mozilla.

At end the only altcoins to bring real value were not backed by the Bitcoin source-code, while BTC keeps rightfully leading the crypto revolution, its coins like Monero that bring real alternative to both Bitcoin and Fiat currencies.

monero only offer anon versus bitcoin, nothing else, unless i'm missing something, anon might be added to bitcoin in the future

no need to have other coins really, all those shitcoin was there to increase bitcoin bag holders/dumpers

but mining for real profit was fan, the scammers with ipo/ipco/hidden premine ecc... ruined it

Monero offers fungibility and privacy over what Bitcoin has today, BTC cannot implement efficient anon without hard-forking which is almost impossible because Bitcoin is too big now.

You are right about scam coins, they ruined the scene, thats pretty much the point behind this thread, the exception is Monero, the market has spoken, you dont need to like or use it of course.

one never know, maybe a new tech could help bitcoin getting anon without hard fork

Indeed, mixers, tor, VPN, altcoin exchanges and cash aquisition all help BTC to gain anonymity but that's only accessible and interesting for a small subset of the user base. Unless BTC adds anon / privacy as a base function then it will not gain the same functionality as a coin like Monero.

It is possible, but unrealistic that Bitcoin can hold this role, thus the rational argument for filling the need.

FTFY.
Well you're right about that. Back in '13, like mid-year and till the end of it, mining was great.
I had so much fun mining the coins that I liked, and taking care of my rigs. I knew that I could at least stay at 0 loss (almost) whatever I decided to mine.
Now the altcoin scene is rubbish. I follow some coins from time to time, but that's it.

Spoetnik is somewhat right here. Altcoins are really no more. Some are even trying to market themselves as Bitcoin 2.0 which is ridiculous since Bitcoin is only at 0.9.2.x.
I do not however agree that faith in Bitcoin is/was lost. The market takes time. You can't expect a spike to occur every few months.

well am i crazy or do you guys not all see that things look pretty bad right now for ALT's ?
and what is it we should be looking forward to ?
only a new rush of new guys coming in would help us and i don't see them coming.
not when you see all this Altcoins stuff honestly and fairly.

if i am wrong and there is some other form of salvation or new avenue of hope lets hear it.. i'm all ears.

i am sincere and honest here guys.. it just looks genuinely dark and gloomy and it has for ages to me.
For example i have always seen a rebound every 30 days and now for many months that rebound is just simply put, gone !
now every month coin values across the board tank out and stay there and get even lower the next month *over all.

I am skeptical Bitcoin will do much either.. so far it's hovering around $500 for a loooong time.
It always seems to correct back to that estimated value.
It will take a bloody miracle for it to hit $10,000 any time soon and how long will that take ?
If you had your hypothetical investment money in Bitcoin invested in a normal Bank savings account
you would probably make more money than you would having your money tied up in Bitcoin for the next year or three..
TIME IS MONEY!
So how long does it take to make some ? ..this point seems to be chronically ignored / overlooked in Crypto.

And i didn't bring up Bitcoin for no reason either..
It's tied to Altcoins.. i think the only reason Altcoins Took off in value & popularity in OCT/NOV 2013 was because of a side effect of Bitcoin itself getting big.
So for us to want Altcoins to get big again i think we have to have another huge massive surge in interest in Bitcoin.

Anyway thanks for the input i like reading everyone opinions Smiley
thanks for taking the time to read my word salad ahhha

There are almost no genuine new things in Crypto. If people were brutally honest only 5 coins are genuinely new coded coins that haven't ripped off something along the way. Anything cloned, based on X Coin or just promises to build something ontop of another coin is bogus.

The problem is information VS ignorance.

All I want now is a wallet which holds primarily Bitcoin, colored coins so I can hold other assets, and Gold, Fiat etc. I'm sick to death of people acting like rabid wankers all over scam coin threads claiming everyone's FUDing when anyone questions their motives or point.

Anime coin, Crypti, Monero etc you can all fuck right off...

This idea that we need themes to coins like when did we ever need one type of money to buy anime or fucking porn?

Ok, the jokes over now, everyone go home.

Just curious...by what measuring stick are you so sure that altcoins are, in fact, down?

Maybe you're just looking at your portfolio?
