On another note, I had never had a close family member die before, much less of cancer, and I guess I had the idea that it would be like a movie-- either painless and instant, or Godfather "last words" style. I had no idea that cancer basically makes you go senile right before you die, causing you to freak out for a day saying things you've never said, then go open-eye comatose for another day, finally becoming unresponsive until your breathing stops.
Your experience isn't unique to cancer. Unfortunately the phrase "keeping someone comfortable" doesn't mean what people would like to think it means. Having seen the pain and distress which so often accompanies death in this day and age, I've made damned sure that my medical wishes are very well known.

My right brain and left brain were both soaking the thing in. Really weird experience. Everyone I talked to after the fact pretty much said that's how their relative/friend went as well. Makes me horrified of cancer even more so.
We weren't that close or anything so I guess I am handling it much better than my oldest sister who keeps shouting it's 'her fault' and something about being 'too late', but one thing is for sure-- I wouldn't even want my enemies to have to live with the pain and suffering she was going through. I am happy she passed quickly and in her sleep (even if her sleep was drug induced).
The last family member I had die of cancer was my grandmother when I was about 6.
She was dying of lung cancer.
The one bit of solace I get from not being able to be with her during her last days was that she, in vain, repeatedly requested I be let in to see her.
I was really close to her as a child, but now I can hardly remember her.
I feel your pain and hope you get though this as quickly as possible.

As long as he isn't posting crazy atlas stuff he might be able to evade a ban, but that would mean not being himself/not posting about anything he really cares about, so he'll get bored eventually and either leave or revert to the crazy stuff and get banned again. Sorry to here about your mom. My dad pasted a year and half ago. After the normal brief grieving period, everything will OK. I joke with my sister daily with this line, "Dad said,". Just those two words, then we laugh. You'll always remember what 'Mom Said'.
