RIP. I greatly enjoyed his post here about coping with late stages of ALS; it was inspiring. I applaud him for his contributions to cryptography and bitcoin and I hope he is remembered fondly.

Everyone should acknowledge that Hal was most proud of his work on PGP (Pretty Good Privacy) - https://wikipedia.org/wiki/Pretty_Good_Privacy - which he is perhaps less well known for.

~ Its quite remarkable that PGP has existed for so long and yet most governments and/or large corporations don't even bother to encrypt sensitive communications.

A lot of people in the infosec/netsec scene acknowledge PGP.   What makes you think many governments/large corporations don't use that?

Some do, although it is still used much less frequently than it should be within said organizations and institutions.

Right... and who says that the NSA has not poisoned that project as well in some way shape or form?  I suppose because it is open source but still...   Projects/community needs to re-evaluate security and crypto as a whole.

P.S. If we ever hear that Dorian decides to get frozen as well, where do we sign up for this ?   Cool

Not for the faint of heart, nor for anyone who expects all the research to have been done and the answers to be handed to them on a silver platter.

Sad news indeed and condolences to his family.

It is an amazing and brave decision to be cryogenically preserved I think.

I never communicated with Hal, but I guess he read some or my early rambling posts. I'll leave this in his honor...

Maybe Hal will get to read this board again someday ?

So long, exceptional person.

Hal was a central figure of modern cryptography and will be remembered forever.

He is not "100% actually deceased", that is great news that there is a chance of future recovery. What an amazing world we live in.
Nap in peace, Hal.
No he is very dead Sad
I personally find it offensive to say something like this.

His state is unknown.  He is either in a very unusual type of coma, or he is dead.  People are certainly entitled to differing opinions on the subject.  My fond hope is that some day it will be demonstrated that he was not in fact dead.
