this is not competitions. these two coins have different application so jus buy both of them and relax) seriously, both ETH and Ripple are developing in a very good way.
But these guys will always try to take anything as a competition in the crypto, ripple is a competitor to the stellar platform which has been aiming to become the next open payment platform. that doesn't make sense when we are creating such a comparison between the smartcontract platform and the platform that focused to create open payment system.

at present, ethereum has shown a good price increase, as well as the ripple (XRP) indeed shows that they are ready to fight back in several exchangers. to become the next king of crypto currencies.

It’s not such a long battle and as happened recently
Ripple has shown us that it has little strength to sustain the secon position on coinmarketcap
It tried to get pumped to attain that but Etherum showed that when you are pumped, you will run of funds to pump and end up going down back to normal position

Don’t have doubts on Etherum
It’s gonna surprise quite a lot of investors

Lets not forget that Ripple did defeat the ETH one time last year but it went down again due to the fact that it was not capable enough to make things good again. I guess Ripple currently is really pushing hard as you said but its not gonna cross the ETH at all due to the fact that ETH already went down a lot and touched its bottom prices and now everyone thinks that this is the perfect time to buy it. What has happened due to this? Well people have driven the market volume of the ETH way lot more than XRP and thus ideally XRP can not take the second position if its volume remains downside.

Recently, Ripple's been pushing hard for the title of the second crypto!

i've been checking coinmarketcap 50 times a day past few months! & in the past couple of weeks -as of writing of this post- this is exactly the 3rd time Ripple has become the 2nd biggest crypto!

Every time it's been the same: Ripple surges, Ether follows in a few hours to prove dominance; Ripple wave breaks, Ether is back in its position but its market feels semi-stagnant & bored, the Ripple market stays excited & the process repeats!

I can read articles but i'm not much technically inclined!
technologically speaking, does ripple have any actual advantage over ethereum -for ripple to take over ether for good- to settle in the 2nd place?!
Or in terms of technology, they each have their own niches & their market value is mostly derived from their application & outside investment in their application; in that case, which of these two technologies you think are better developed & better marketed? which one you think would be better suited to invest in?

Now i'm curious about this because i do have a policy to save my extra pennies in the form of 3 biggest cryptos every month & would prefer to adjust the percentage of my pennies going into different cryptos less speculatively or emotionally & more scientifically! I don't have the science though; but i'm positive there are a large number of people here who do!!! (also great number of ppl with ulterior motives! i know that too!)
So u knw; give anyone who's interested in this topic your expert opinion or suggest reads or just battle it out! thanks for your participation in advance!

(yes i knw, old acc haven't posted in ages! how come now? whats with that? been transferred?! nope! just long ass family problem that is now resolved & spare time being spent productively, hopefully!)

sorry for the long post!  Tongue

Yeah right, i see XRP now have the 2nd position in coinmarketcap. I think XRP is win from ETH because XRP is not able to be mined.
The growth of the XRP price is the real organic growth, unlike ETH which have coin to be mined and can increasing the market cap because more coins added.

Looks like a tough fight, but ultimately Eth will win. I want decentralization to win

I think ETH will still be the first choice after btc, and
I think this is the time for ETH investment. we can buy and save it. because you believe that in the beginning of 2019 prices will increase again ... there are still investors and various kinds of parties looking for ... hopefully that can be true

If you ask me, marketcap doesn't mean too much and the race for the second place is also not important. What is important is how these two technologies will prove themselves in the long run.

I don't see any technological advantage of XRP over Ethereum. It is also worth mentioning that technologically their platforms are totally different. It can be argued that the ETH blockchain is flawed, but even the way it is now is much more in line with the general idea how a crypto public ledger should look like. By contrast, Ripple is totally centralized and you cannot really say that it is a cryptocurrency at all. When you invest in XRP, you are basically investing in a company, which may be fine if that's what you want to do. Ethereum, on the other side has its own problems. Depending on whether or not they manage to solve them (e.g., will PoS work as it's supposed), it could be a good investment, or a total disaster.

Looks like after ripple now its ethereum's turn to spark upwards, fundamentally too ethereum's future contracts are also being introduced that can also push the price and volume upwards.
