I store my ripples on kraken. For me it is easy, you have a wallet there and you can trade there when you want Cool

I do not want to keep XRP in an exchange because of security and privacy concerns. I much prefer a cold wallet.

Does anyone have experience with the Ripple Desktop Wallet/Cold Storage (I have installed, transferred XRP to it).

Is this a Ripple supported application? If not whose app is this?
Is this for use for long term cold storage?
Is this a secure method for XRP storage, e.g., security, what happens if the application is no longer supported?
Is there any documentation for use?

Minimalist Ripple client, runs in your browser.

Secrets are handled client side:
http://jatchili.github.io/minimalist-ripple-client/

Source code:
https://github.com/jatchili/minimalist-ripple-client

If you don't trust GitHub you can download it and run it in your browser yourself.

This product is not from Ripple and is not supported.

I've been looking at the above.  No decision yet.  Anybody else using it?  Reviews?  Issues?

Personally I keep XRP on https://www.kraken.com/

XRP/Ripple does need a better Exchange/Wallet network.  If it gets it, you'll see upward motion come along with it.  If not, then this is a patient hold with hopefully rewards for the faithful.   I'm beginning to think that XRP/Ripple may always be primarily a "bank/exchange" accessed coin though.  It seems like that is the plan.  But that could do it if just one major bank starts putting it out there as a currency alternative, then more would follow.  A matter of time IMHO.

As far as I know there are no (useful) offline wallet for XRP. Storing your coins on exchanges is quite risky (e.g. Cryptsy ) so I wouldn't recommend that. I think the officially recommended site is your best choice.

Cryptsy is an example why I don't trust online wallets.

I looked into it a bit and stumbled over https://github.com/yxxyun/ripple-client-desktop/releases

You can create a new address and secret key on an air-gapped system with it (and it seems you don't need the wallet.txt at all).
Plus, you can do transactions too with it, what makes you independant from a 3rd party.

If you have XRP stored with such a 3rd party, you could create a new address/key pair and transfer them there.

1. Cryptsy will not allow you to cashout your XRP. I had to convert to another coin to cash out, and this was months ago. I sent an email to support in 2015 and I got this email 13 days ago:

"Currently we are experiencing problems with our withdrawal system.
If you place a withdrawal for BTC LTC DASH BTCD and a few other coins, you may experience delays.

You will receive notice once we have resolved this problem

If you would like to cancel a withdrawal, please create a "new" ticket and choose "Cancel Withdrawal"
from the ticket type.

Please see http://blog.cryptsy.com/ for current and future updates.

We appreciate your patience while we resolve these issues.

Sincerely,
Cryptsy Customer Service"

2. Yes, you only need your secret/private key to access your XRP on the Ripple network: Your public key starts with an "r" your secret key starts with an "s". However, Cryptsy doesn't issue wallets so you don't technically own XRP, you own Cryptsy XRP IOUs:  https://ripple.com/knowledge_center/password-recovery-and-your-secret-key/

3. Yes, you can create a cold wallet: see http://www.xrpchat.com/topic/995-poll-developers-how-much-do-you-know-about-ripple-rcl/#comment-8784 and http://www.xrpchat.com/topic/1059-viewing-a-cold-wallet-balance-in-block-explorer/#comment-9388

4. Gatehub.net and Bluzelle.com both offer Ripple wallets. Kraken and Poloniex offer IOUs. However, the security at Kraken is top notch, your XRP are unlikely to be "lost" or stolen from Kraken. You can also create XRP wallets on RippleSingapore and some of the Asian exchanges/gateways.

thanks for your answer, so if they are deactivating users wallets though where else can I store my ripples? I have them on cryptsy and would like to move them (well, if crypsty lets me to it of course Smiley)

Ripple company has strike a deal with Gatehub.net - a UK based company. Most of the users are migrating their wallets to gatehub.net. U can store your XRP with them.

U can also store your XRP on Poloniex, Bittrex and on other exchange platforms. Check the list here: http://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/ripple/#markets

But as MtGox and Cryptsy history have shown, no exchange platform is more sure than your own desktop wallet.
Ripple trade is its official wallet. I trust it as trusting ripple. No other third party exchanges hold ripple for me. OP, if you are obsessed about the paper wallets, you can cash it out to bitcoin.
Maybe, but they require you to not only supply a phone number for verification, but also a copy of your passport or similar.
If MtGox/Cryptsy/Whatever other exchange has taught anything, it's that you do not want this sort of information in the hands of such a company.

A wallet under your personal control is the safest way to store any cryptocurrency; with every other option there is the chance that a 3rd party has control over your coins.

If it is not possible to use a standalone client to manage your XRP, it's pointless to bother about it.

What do you need to keep your Ripples anyway?

Is the secret key enough?

With Bitcoin, all you need is the private key to access your coins.

That said, if you don't trust online services with the safety of your XRP, can you create your own address where only you know the secret key?

AFAK there is no offline wallet for XRP. Rippletrade wallet is the safest one at this stage, coz it`s a California based trusted company. But after 1st of April they are deactivating users` wallets and trading on their platform.
