Every African who was exposed either identified as Nigerian or was identified as such by the media, thus the cycle continues. The example you provided about North Korea is perfect; at this point, all crypto hackers hide under the country's guise, and all hacks are associated with the Lazarus group, while it's possible that other dangerous groups outside of North Korea are carrying out the entire scheme.

When you look at the situation, it seems perfect - because you have a country that is on the black list, which almost no one trusts, and therefore it is an ideal culprit that cannot defend itself. It never seemed to me that their hackers were that capable, especially since the internet is a high privilege in that country and such skills are hard to find.

Poverty and a severe lack of jobs are major contributors to the romantic scams that are prevalent in several West African nations.

Maybe it's just my opinion, but it seems to me that the real paradise for romantic scams is the Philippines and Indonesia, considering the news coming from that part of the world.

The crypto scam scheme is not only Nigerian, it spans across different countries Maybe it's more rampant in some countries than the others I guess that's why people call Nigerian more.

But there is this thing with identifying opportunity and hopping on it, I feel that's what crypto scammers are doing but it's now the negative direction, that moment when crypto is on the increase, a lot of people are trying to tap into it, both the meme coins, the alt coin and holding Bitcoin. So now scamers see an increase in individuals getting into the crypto space and they are now making use of the opening but in the negative direction.

For whatever reason it can be poverty, it can be greed or the bad economic situations in different countries.  We are advised to safeguard our digital assets very well and be careful how you let people know your seed phrase or handle your devices where you holding your coins.

That's just one of the reasons - but if you take poverty as the main motivating factor, which is why Nigeria is always in focus when it comes to scams, why isn't the same happening with other poor countries in Africa? Maybe it's because of the large population that Nigeria has and the fact that it has a very young population, but maybe a lot of scammers are just pretending to be from Nigeria because they have obviously become someone who is the easiest to stick such a label on.

The situation is similar with the agenda that all major hacks come from North Korea, as if there are no hackers in the rest of the world.

Poverty is a cause.  The other is that Bitcoin can be used wrong and no Government can do any thing besides investigating and arresting the bad people.  The third is probably that being in Nigeria is like a waiver of laws.  What happens to a Nigerian if they scam a United States resident?  Or an European?  If the sums involved are billions, maybe a proper investigation is launched.  But even then, I do not know how much can be done about it.

Nigeria gets memed a lot for its large amount of crypto scammers and 'nigerian prince schemes' that make all the honest people who live there look bad.

Although scammers can really come from anywhere, but particularly the scam rings are to be found in poorer countries. It is more likely you find a scamming base in Cambodia than in the USA, for example.

IMO its down to a lack of education and can happen in any country. I myself was
scammed a few years ago through a HYIP site purely because I was not educated,
I never heard of these sites before and the deal looked very promising, actually
too good to be true more like.

So anyone with limited means will always look to improve their situation but sometimes
they get scammed. Its a sad state of affairs because these people are the last who
can afford to get scammed.

Don't get me wrong, and please don't take my comment as any means of racism, but i'm not surprised at all.
Sadly, 9 out of 10 people that have tried scamming me in Crypto were in fact, of Nigerian origin.
I'm sure it's not a mentality, but maybe poverty issue
Can you please tell how you realized they were Nigerians.

Can you tell what will be the chance of them being some other AF countries aside Nigerians?

Poverty eh, we might be a developing country but aside that i do not see us being retched and poverty strike like you think, with the efforts from an average Nigeria meeting his needs, in some countries that will be enough to guarantee a better standard of living. Our mentality are straight, we work rightly for what we want only there are few who also want more than they should have and chooses to skip the process, I think there are worst scammers in countries than they are in Nigeria, let's forget about google rankings and be true to ourselves.

Actually yes i can. Most of the time when i have time to "play with them" i end up exposing their connection and their IP, and like i said, 9 out of 10 times it's from Nigeria.
Heck, one time i managed to turn on the guys phone camera see his face. (yes, i know, the face doesn't tell me he is from Nigeria, but his phone location certainly does)

I like how you placed your words and sorry for the ordeal you had with those Nigerians that tried to scam you and we should know that scamming is a thing of global concern and not just about a particular country being the case study. Likewise, i have faced scamming attempts by some foreigners but i won't mention the names of the countries. Just as you said that it could be poverty issue, so it is then i would also want to add greed because there are folks who are rich but they lack contentment which makes them try to scam others to acquire more wealth to themselves through dubious means.

It's no news that our country Nigeria is one country that has been always linked with scam and criminals related activities online but things has gotten to a new level with the emergence of crypto currency especially Bitcoin which has become popular in the world especially in Nigeria

Some scammers from other countries usually claim to be Nigerians. I also read news of how scammers from other countries are relocating to Nigeria to carry out criminal activities and give the country a bad name. In a single raid by some law enforcement agents about 148 Chinese, 40 Filipinos, two Kharzartans, one Pakistani, one Indonesian were arrested.

But one big challenge we are faced with in the crypto space is scam because people fall into the trap of these scammers almost on a daily basis it's worst in our beloved country Nigeria has scammers has really find a way into the crypto space

Crypto scams is not just popular in Nigeria, they exist almost in every part of the world. Poverty and greed are the main reason why people in developing nations fall prey to these scammers.

This got me thinking what could be the course of this why are people falling into more scams and why is scam on the rise in Nigeria because with the way things are now immediately your identified as a Nigerian in social media platforms online as a Nigerian you are suspected to be a scammer

Poor crypto education could be another cause. Ignorant people can be easily deceived. I have heard people discussing how they were taught how to mine Bitcoin with an Android phone. When I looked at the application, it was a clear scam.

The reason for numerous scammers from poor countries is always a bad economy. People will not commit crimes if they have a good life. I still believe that most of these scammers are just surviving, and of course, it is very unfortunate that they cross the line of decency.
I agree with this. Same with ours I guess, theres plenty of scammers hiding under the false pretense of crypto umbrella. They use the crypto to lure them on a perfect trap. Nobody wants to get scammed. But there will always be people who lost their will to the devip just to earn money from normal people who began to wonder in crypto. It seems Nigerian Government need to apprehend those lazy scammers. Its maybe due to economical aspect of living but doing bad things to take advantage of others will be always wrong no matter how tou justify it.

Lack of knowledge and negligence. When the victim doesn't have an idea of the scam tricks, they're likely to fall for it. Don't forget also about the victims being greedy.

why is scam on the rise in Nigeria because with the way things are now immediately your identified as a Nigerian in social media platforms online as a Nigerian you are suspected to be a scammer
Scams are everywhere and you're not the only country that are being described with that identification. But scammers leading to scam people is because they don't have other opportunities and that results into poverty.

even though Nigeria stands tall when we talk about an African country that is actively involved in this digital space and so, when the topic of scams is being disused, we tend to receive the attention as a country that leads the movement, the reality is far from what has been projected on the media space.

the scammers that are either Nigerian or non-Nigerians still targets Nigerians who also get scammed in the process. scam is a global trend that is a function of personality and not just about the region one comes from. Nigeria is a very religious country, and it is hard to find a core religious person being fully involved in scam. this is never to say that there are no scammers that are of Nigerian descent or that they don't occupy a certain percentage of the population of scammers on the digital space, they are certainly in their umbers same way other countries also have scammers that are of those regions. poverty might be the root cause, but greed is the propelling force that amplifies and highten the extent of scams both in crypto and the overall digital space.

I would have created a similar topic directly in the Nigerian section first.
However, the OP's question is quite simple to answer. It all comes from a low standard of living. If you read the posts of users from the Nigerian section, you can understand that it is very difficult for a young person to get a job even after receiving an education. I do not want to be a lawyer, but what should young people who are just starting to live and cannot find a job? They go online and look for work on the Internet. But there will often be obstacles here too. There is no place where you can get a job on a legal basis, and here various ideas for fraud appear. The fact that people are often deceived, especially in the crypto environment, speaks of the low level of education of the deceived, and those who deceive, having once gained such experience, will regularly use it.
The reason for numerous scammers from poor countries is always a bad economy. People will not commit crimes if they have a good life. I still believe that most of these scammers are just surviving, and of course, it is very unfortunate that they cross the line of decency.

Crypto is a growing industry, there will definitely be scammers trying to take advantage of it and use it to rip people off. This is not limited to just crypto, scammers use and have used any available opportunity they have, it's a media narrative to paint Bitcoin as the top tool for scams.
Scammers are in all industries, not only in blockchain and cryptocurrency industry. If people are scammed in cryptocurrency, they can be scammed in other industries too because they have personal traits that can be abused by scammers. Too naive, too greed, too careless, all these things, but even more, are perfect traits for scammers to succeed.

This is not particularly true. I've personally engaged with a couple of clients and potential clients who were aware of my nationality and experienced no prejudice from them. With how popular Nigerians are on social media, you can be sure there are lots of others who are not limited by prejudice, if they create a track of being upright and trustworthy.
There are good and bad people in a same local area, a same country, but education and culture actually affect locals a lot. If you are a Nigerian, it does not automatically mean you are a bad person. There are bad people everywhere on earth but if you are from a nation that is famous with scammers, you will have to put more effort to prove that you are a good person.

Its not only in Nigeria; our country also has a share of crypto scamming. When there is poverty and a lack of government support to ease up or alleviate the condition of its people, the people resort to crime and scamming.
These crypto-related scams will continue not only in Nigeria but even in many countries. If a person fails to secure and flaunt his portfolio or crypto assets, many bad people will be tempted to steal from them.
Criminals learn from other criminals regardless of nationality, so those articles about kidnapping and paying ransom and scamming people you will see these in many countries.

OP I don't know what you  aim to achieve with this post, you obviously sound misinformed and biased, Nigerian got a local board where this topic could be discussed and addressed properly,  I don't see how this information is supposed to help beginners who visit this board to be enlightened about the forum, I will advise you move this to the appropriate local board.

Just to educate you, Nigeria literally has better recod when it has to do with crypto adoption and crypto trade volume Across Africa and the world most likely,  there are other Countries who are involved in crypto scam more and are even on FBI watch list much more than Nigeria,  they include African and European nations but because I wouldn't want to project sentiment,  it's unnecessary I mention their names. OP do the needful.

Make una talk una mind my Nigerian people ?
It's not surprising that a country like Nigeria is opting into scamming other people because of how hard the life is. Don't take this as a criticism, but I'm just stating the facts, and you know that since you're living in Nigeria as well, right?

Crypto scamming happens and the scammers' targets?
- People who are obsessed with money.
- People who are obsessed with getting rich in a quick way.
- People who are easily attracted with huge returns.
- People who doesn't have any knowledge on how cryptocurrency investing works.

What's the course? There are many videos online that gives many information about cryptocurrencies, and how to prevent getting scammed as well. Change the way you think about cryptocurrency because it isn't a get rich quick scheme. With how rampant scams are in your country, even other people worldwide are generalizing all of you already. I guess just don't resort to scamming people and continue to learn so that you will not fall into these scammers.

It can be many reasons for scam rising trend in Nigeria and I think it isn't different than other countries.

When Bitcoin and cryptocurrency adoption is better, more people know about it, invest money in it, and traditional main stream media, social media are more regularly talking about it. Scams possibly increase but at the same time there is considerable increase in attention and activities of media about this market.

Together, it makes like so dramatic more scams than before, but it is like manification effects from media.
