This is what I have suggested people to do for the longest time. People play x amount of money on a given time, see a competition, and suddenly wager 5x amount just to win something from that competition. The amount you are losing from wagering that much more nearly always equals to you losing money even if you win something, or in general you will lose the competition as well.

Just keep on gambling the way you always do and if it happens to participate in anything that way then you will earn a reward for it, but do not change the way you gamble just because there is a competition or a promotion or a bonus somewhere that you could take advantage of.
