Based on my personal observations, I don't really think people creating new coins with the attempt of developing a coin that can solve the drawbacks seen in Bitcoin have the intention of killing Bitcoin. Most of these projects use Bitcoin's algorithm as their base code to develop their coin on. These developers are very aware that there is no way Bitcoin can be killed.
They are improving bitcoin's shortcomings, yet they can't manage to compete with its adoption.
Up until now, the usage and popularity has not been attained by many attempts of other altcoins.
Although, there are countless projects introduced to be better, faster and so on and so forth, yet, users still go back to bitcoin.
Bitcoin is like a fortress of crypto industry and eliminating this from the picture is quite impossible for now.
