What! Um, Either I am super lucky, or I don't know what.

Not super. Just lucky. 50% of ppl would win if they sent coins to Lessthan 32768.

I recall I made a bet (something like 50 BTC) and received very small amount back, I thought I had lost so I sent 100 BTC. After a while I received 100 BTC and 200 BTC! A small investigation showed that after the 50 BTC bet I got a winning for one of stuck bets I had made a day before.  Smiley

There are a lot of stories when ppl won a lot of coins playing SD. There are also a lot of stories when ppl lost a lot of coins playing SD, but they just don't tell it to anyone.  Wink

yes that means my 58 Bitcoins finally arrived.
yes I payed someone 26.5 Bitcoins for a 7970

I had remaining 31.5 BTC. Yes I did spent 9 BTC
on a bet on satoshidice, dropping to 23 BTC and losing.
It was on 85% and for fun. I opened up my book address,
and double clicked an address.

What ever would be the outcome I would cash out the remaining balance.
Yes I loss, and then I opened up the Canadian exchange.
Then I clicked the deposit address on the site, and clicked ctrl+c
at least I thought I did.

And yes I then clicked ctrl+v, and yes I didn't carefully read over the address.
Yes this was incredibly stupid. Lesson learned, always double checked.
And don't do this 4am in the morning.

And yes, somehow I am incredibly happy to be doing bitcoin transactions
in my sleep, as the error really did pay off.

And yes I am over all amazed.

I should have 3.5 BTC, because the 28 I bought was to cover the 7970 (26.5 BTC)
But some how I have 46 BTC, because of multiple reasons. If your wondering
why I bought 28, even though the gpu costed 26.5. I decided to want a balance
of 5 BTC or so to play with far into the future.

1) During the buying process of the 7970, I decided to throw a bet of 0.01 on satoshidice
on a really low odds on the site. And to my amazement I won. I now had 7.9 Bitcoins or so.
I decided my luck wasn't over, and I placed this on 79% taking me to 10 bitcoins nearly.
Now I received my 28 for total of 38 BTC. And yes I got incrediblely lucky again with
a bet on satoshidice. Like above. Now getting to 45 BTC.

2) Now with 45 BTC I decided to place a wager on 79%, but with only 0.45 at least that's what I intended.
But in the end somehow I end up sending 45 BTC. (Human error)

3) Now with a win again. I am up to 55 BTC. Okay now I bought the 7970 and I now have 31.5 BTC.
I decided to make a spin of 85% with 9 BTC. (No matter the outcome, I would cash out the remaining)

4) Now I have 23 BTC. I then ctrl+c and ctrl +v and I click sumbit, to candian exchange.
But it happen to be the 50% bet. That getting on my clip board, and not copying and pasting
properly, I don't know. I suspect it was a 0.01 BTC I made bet on it as a test for unknown etc some time earlier.
And that had to of remained on my clip board. Though I wasn't thinking of this at the time, Completely not.

5) Now I have 46 BTC.

And that's how I end up going from 3.5 BTC that I should have to having acquired 46 BTC.

I am lucky and yes I admit stupid to somehow mange that.
Idiots ultimately get rewarded in the end it seems it Smiley

Well that went well all I can say  Smiley

What! Um, Either I am super lucky, or I don't know what.

I was going to cash out my remaining balance to Canadian bitcoin exchange.
I copied and paste in the address pressing ctrl+c and so on the site.
And I rushed to clicking sent, and submit.

But I realized that in my paste history, it had 50% Satoshidice,
OMFG?! Is this the second time I messed up? It appears
the ctrl+c function failed, or I didn't click it properly.
It happened in the past, only a few times though in the following year.
Perhaps a glitch, error, i don't know what.

Lesson learned, don't make bitcoin transactions when its 4 am in the morning,
and your 1/2 asleep.

But Ironically. I won.
And now I have 46 BTC, + have bought the graphic card of 7970.

I feel unbelievably stupid, and at the same time, incredibly happy that this error did occur.

Now I get to cash out $575 to my bank  Smiley

Though I was making a withdrawal of $350 to buy bitcoins for the 7970.

It feels wrong to have a 7970+$575 Cash in bank.

does the network keep broadcasting double spends or are they eventually detected and redirected to /dev/null ?

Nope.  With the Bitcoin.org client, if a transaction is in the memory pool and then a block arrives which double spends that first transaction essentially disappears.  It is no longer broadcast by any node once the block with the double spend is accepted.

do bad nodes that keep misbehaving get ignored ?

What isn't known is if a double spend occurred because of a race attack, or Finney attack or for whatever reason.  A Finney attack is little easier to identify as the transaction would arrive and then the block with the double spend would arrive fairly quickly right after (a few seconds or less in most instances).

Instances of these double spends aren't frequent but when they do occur the way they have with SatoshiDICE they can propagate quickly and impact a larger number of people.

This is yet another example of where if you are using the Bitcoin.org client, you are minimally impacted or not affected at all (as it doesn't let you spend a transaction you received until it has at least one confirmation).  [Edit: strike that.  The situation the OP reported is simply a payout that didn't occur, not that a payout included a double spend.]

I just hope they didn't lost too much, to declare bankruptcy and forfeit everyone winning payments.
I notice they are doing all the little payments.

FFS, Would you just relax.

This is not the first time this happened.  Every transaction on SatoshiDICE that is a WIN eventually gets paid.    This is provable using the blockchain.

Your transaction confirmed.  It shows WIN.  You will get paid, just not right now apparently for whatever reason.

Incidentally, wagers that are double spends don't cost SatoshiDICE a thing, because even if they sent a payout for the WIN already the payout will not confirm either as it too will be a double spend.  And it is then no different from having never made a payout at all.

When these situations happen with SatoshiDICE, they can take a day or two to resolve.

There's nothing you can do but wait.

is this kind of thing resolved automatically with "blockchain magic" or does satoshidice have to manually correct these things ?
If the latter, it may explain the delays.

sounds like there is a potential ddos in there Sad

I need to study this stuff more, say I picked up a noisy wallet (1 million previous TX's) and spam
Code:
lessthan 1000 1dice5wwEZT2u6ESAdUGG6MHgCpbQqZiy 1.5259% 63.968x 1.900% 98.100% 0.0100 29.227

aiming to trigger some wins, in theory they would build a payout using my double spends and a large amount of their confirmed funds.
As I would be constantly double spending the same funds there is no cost to myself, but every time  they attempt to pay they are reusing only a small part of my double spend and also locking a large amount of the legitimate unpsent inputs in their wallet.

Its a bit concerning really as Id hate to see this instant style of gambling go away Sad

does the network keep broadcasting double spends or are they eventually detected and redirected to /dev/null ?
do bad nodes that keep misbehaving get ignored ?

so many questions, sorry Smiley

my bad... i was doing both .001 and .003 bets lol i think i made something like 3000 bets in the last 48 hours... wasn't doing to terrible either didn't reali
ze it was gonna break satoshidice Sad

When you play with such small amounts, aren't the transaction fees prohibitively large?  Even multiplying those bets by 10 would greatly reduce the percentage of your money going to tx fees.

There are currently 1374 bets that have been confirmed which haven't had their payouts confirmed yet:

http://pastebin.ca/2262402 (it's too big to include in this post - I never hit the 64000 byte post size limit before)

It looks like SatoshiDice is being swamped by thousands of tiny bets which they're not able to deal with in a timely manner.

The blockage was probably initially caused by a double-spend attempt, which can have a large knock-on effect:  when you make a transaction using a double-spent bet as an input, all the outputs are doomed to never confirm.  Each of the transactions which you subsequently make using any of those outputs are also doomed to never confirm.  And so on.  Before you know it you have a huge tree of payouts which eventually just vanish because they depend on a double-spent bet.

Eventually some kind of a clean-up script will run at SatoshiDice and all the missing payouts will be redone.

It kind of sucks that you're having to wait, but you're not alone...

Your jealous I won?  Smiley

1 bitcent is a tiny bet, nothing really. But I was shocked that to get back 2.56 Bitcoins.
Well I just tested out http://satoshiroulette.com/clone_dice/

There site works perfectly, and instantly atm.

Though the 45 Bet wasn't a tiny bet  Roll Eyes And it wasn't my intention to send that much, should
of been more careful. I wanted to send 4.5 BTC on 79%.

thebaron, there are lots that I saw on satoshidice that needs serious counseling. I saw a person
bet 250 Bitcoin on 50% 10 times, and lost 9 times in a row, ouch that had to hurt.
That was about $20,000ish.

Sometimes I monitor bets of other players on SD site. And if I see that someone had had very little money and lost them due to failed Martingaling, I send them some coins so they could continue to play. Maybe someone does the same thing and sent 1 BTC to u.

ahhh.. That's really nice..

Yea it would be nice, but I didn't loss my coins. I did win. Kinda odd the person would send 1 BTC to a winner of 10 bitcoins.
Not just that, I also sent 1 bitcent to less then 256 and won 2.56 Bitcoins. And I won another 11 bitcoins from another bet.
So overall I am up 23.56 Bitcoins which is incredibly unlikely, but lucky.

Glad the 7970 person understands the situation, and is willing to wait.
And I still haven't gotten my funds or bitcoins yet

Well Since you got graph + info, you also get a ticket.

I update that graph every morning in this thread, in case you didn't see it before:

Interesting, it seems that they are 20,000 positive.
Why don't they pay out everything immediately?

Or something wrong with there site?

Well Since you got graph + info, you also get a ticket.

My theory is that their wallet is currently a jumble of uncomfirmable and regular coins.  To pay out big wins they use lots of smaller coins.  There's a big chance that at least one of the coins they use is unconfirmable which in turn makes the payout unconfirmable.

Until they resolve that mess the situation will perpetuate itself.

So they're able to automatically pay out losses, but not wins.  Which is why the graph is only going up at the moment.

I just hope they didn't lost too much, to declare bankruptcy and forfeit everyone winning payments.
I notice they are doing all the little payments.

Notice that it's easy to pay out on a losing bet.  All you need is the losing bet as the transaction input.  You send part of it back to the losing player and the rest to a satoshidice change address.  So it doesn't matter if the satoshidice wallet is full of inputs that will never confirm; that doesn't impact their ability to pay out losing bets.  It does hinder their ability to pay out winners however.

This imbalance means that if you only look at fully confirmed bet+payout pairs, you'll see mostly losing bets showing up.  This is reflected in the graph of their profits over time.  Notice that for the last day or two their profits have been pretty much straight up.  Also notice that they're about 20,000 BTC in the black.  That doesn't look like bankruptcy to me.

Something in between I think.

After a few days Erik usually posts that the delay was caused by an error and that it has now been fixed and the problem won't happen again.  Wink
