The limits are dynamically adjusted based on house funds, so at the time the limit was 50 but now it is 5, at least thats from my understanding.
I think this is dangerous for the house, because the limit dynamically reduces immediately after any large payout.

Therefore, most of the largest bets are going to be ones that the house loses.

Ooookay...
Could someone please explain this bet to me?

Apparently he bet 50BTC and won 100BTC?

What I really want to know is if I have to worry about transactions that didn't show up in my wallet that were pending on blockchain.info for a while but never got confirmed and are now not even showing on the blockchain.info site "POOF". The transactions still show up in the dice database with UNKNOWN payment for e.g. these two transactions.

I have lots of others exactly like these that won and just seem to disappear. Should I be worried or will everything eventually get paid ?

Based on actual payouts I figured out your payout formula and you are not paying out what you say you are paying out.  Your rules state that
Quote
If you lose, the return is one half the house edge

Which I take to mean that you will return the bet times 0.0075 because the quoted house edge is 1.5%.  In reality you are returning the losing bet times 0.005.

Because you are under paying the losing bets you are also over paying the winning bets.  Your payouts still give the advertised expected return of 98.5%.  And your house edge is still 1.5% but you are not dividing the payouts the way your rules say.

As an example for a 1 BTC lessthan 32768 bet.  Your payouts are:

  win        lose
1.965     0.005

Going by your rules it should be

  win        lose
1.9625   0.0075

Not a big difference but the payout should be consistent with the stated rule.

Also it doesn't exist on blockexplorer either.

i've noticed there's a lot that doesn't exist on blockexplorer lately.

To be fair, blockexplorer has only ever - uh - explored blocks.  And so unconfirmed transactions, not being in a block, aren't shown.

It's also sometimes quite a few blocks behind.  But is there other stuff is doesn't show that it should?

i think that's all that i was referring to... it has seemed more behind than usual lately.

I was trying to figure out why none of my transactions are verifying today and traced it back to this transaction as the problem: https://blockchain.info/tx-index/8092248/53bf155312a4051ff7ace6d36223971617b3819122be5e2a8437def063a3f52d
Any idea whats up with this transaction? It has no source coins and -9.995 fees.

Very interesting....  It shows source IP as 127.0.0.1 which in my experience means that it was a blockchain.info wallet that crated the TX.

Also it doesn't exist on blockexplorer either.

I have had this happen before; however it will eventually clean out and pay.

If it is an invalid transaction, it will not eventually confirm.  SatoshiDICE may do a payout (if for some reason their transaction validation doesn't detect this as being an invalid transaction)  but that payout will never confirm either.

Any every bid that has used those invalid coins will get cancelled when that transaction gets removed.

Is the 5 BTC max bet expected to stick around?

Eleuthria,

The max bets are dynamic based on the funds in the payout pool.

You need to not process bets with transaction sources with 0 commits ... until they get 1 commit.
i.e. for each bet amount you need to delay processing it until the transactions that make up that bet amount (not the bet itself) are committed at least once.
Otherwise you get a steep downhill spiral of transactions that wont commit.
e.g. 2f43af7bf818a27bd4b6033a8ba77124aae3cc31c4a82fcc6a54c563b5ea79ea from 4.75 hours ago ........
I know the standard client wont make transaction like that but it seems somewhere along the way it is happening.

I think this was caused because the output in question was fresh from a mined block and had the output in the older OP_CHECKSIG style.

The input looks like it was a donation payment from the P2Pool software.  For some reason P2Pool blocks always use "pay to public key" outputs for the donation address (see https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Transactions#Transfer_to_IP_address) rather than the more common "pay to bitcoin address" type of output (see https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Transactions#Transfer_to_Bitcoin_address).

It looks like nelisky may be running his own separate P2Pool with the donation address changed to his own address.  Each of the blocks he found (see http://blockexplorer.com/address/1MgH8iNkdZrDW8rsfzifDzsqJnCjBVyRBV) have very few recipients of the block reward meaning he's not part of the original P2Pool.

Is the site down for anyone else? I'm in Cambodia, and gambling is perfectly legal here, so I can't see why it would be blocked. Oddly though, Strike Sapphire loads the same blocked region message I would get when I was in the US, so that has me thinking this could be related if the site is up for everyone else.

Edit: Just used a proxy and it loads. Weird. They do censor here, but it is usually political stuff.

There are some cloud based filtering (e.g., opendns, or MyWoT) system which take user submissions without validation.  Could be your system has that or somewhere along that line the site got flagged.

Actually I see MyWoT shows an +80 for SatoshiDICE on trustworthiness, ..., which is fantastic, but has a low confidence likely as so few ratings have been given.

Now if SatoshiDICE were to already be making it into the national firewall / censor systems that would be interesting.

Ok, so do to some bad transactions that never confirmed a bunch of downstream transactions chained off those got hosed.  Then some things I did made it worse.

Today I've completed rebuilding our transaction database and gotten things to a clean state.  Right now the system is offline while we wait to see which of our payment transactions actually confirm.  Then I'll restart processing and any payments that haven't been confirmed will be recreated and everything will return to some semblance of proper.

Sorry about all the trouble.  I've been working on this part time so some of my solutions haven't had the full rigor I'd like to give things.

However, I think we are making solid progress on being more stable and available.  The last week prior to this weekend were pretty good.

Anyone with unpayed bets of transactions that never showed up, please be patient.  Everything will get paid as it should.

Note: I expect processing to be restarted around 15:00 GMT.

I think SatoshiDICE needs a big disclaimer so every player is aware that the service is "beta" level at this young point in its life (launched just 6 weeks ago) -- and that payouts may take 48 hours -- or something like that.
