what if this *WAS* satoshi?

Anyone who has knowledge of satoshi knows he's pulled people's legs before.

Just sayin'

Theymos should be the one to do it and forward that email he got

I'm probably not going to do that. Responding to a clearly fake threat with violence (via police/government) strikes me as wrong and excessive, especially when it's just some stupid kid.

He hasn't caused much harm as of yet. He didn't steal any bitcoins or release any sensitive info. (The screenshots didn't contain any useful info.) The worst he's done is convince some people to send him a little money. I advise restraint, especially since we don't know for sure whether this kid actually is the hacker. I haven't seen much evidence of that.

Thanks for being the voice of reason!
agreed, as I pointed out in another thread doxxing a minor is not a good idea. and doxxing someone's entire family. would you want your parents doxxed? Plus now we have the legalities of can this evidence be used in court of law

Can I ask, why did you email him in the first place?

This is what he emailed to theymos. Doesn't matter if it's a stupid kid. Everyone needs to learn their lesson sometime. It's better if the retaliation comes from someone with the same demeanor as theymos (who is unlikely to pursue it very far) to teach him a lesson, rather than letting him shit talk the wrong people a year from now and get himself seriously harmed. Extortion and threats are not ok (especially from such a high profile situation), no matter your age or intentions

The email said:
@theymos does an email get expired on gmx.com ?

I don't know.

Have u received previous mails from him ? Did he use to sign those ?

I did receive emails from him in 2010. He didn't sign them.

the alleged hacker is a high school kid.

The problem with black hat people is they are usually misguided script kiddies who lack discipline.

Lastly, they are usually loudmouths who boast about committing crimes

I think Satoshi didn't have too much security on his e-mail by purpose.

In fact maybe he waited for someone to hack his e-mail... so this be a warning for him. If someone was after him, the first logical step is to attack his e-mail.

Also he did left his e-mail just like that, because it is better to left it, than to delete it... after all it doesn't matter. Because everything is already recorded somewhere at the NSA servers.  Or maybe it does matter, maybe Satoshi knows more than us about security and how NSA records information.

Also if Satoshi was smart, he would not just use Tor. We all know Tor can also be compromised... and if someone really wants to find you, Tor would not stop him.

I think the creator of bitcoin did get security very seriously. After all he did invent bitcoin and it is the most secure payment system on the planet.

1. gmx didn't provide good security but maybe doesn't supply user info like some u.s. email providers, hence the choice.

2. There were only ~1000 emails with all the spam and random messages that's much lower so it was likely wiped.

3. Yes he/she/they probably had a decent vpn and tor, which can be effective for some purposes.

He got back to me. The victim of the crime should call his local field office and issue a complaint.

We don't fuck around do we... then again... who the hell would try to hack the king of BTC

You guys ever think about leaving this kid alone?  Because if I was him at this point with everyone knowing me I think I would sign a $10-25k deal with Newsweek to Dox Satoshi to just be even more of a dick.

You leave the kid alone he might end up leaving Satoshi alone if he does have his info.

obviously this is the dumbass kids mate piping in while he cuddles the accused sad kid crying in his bedroom.

If Ross Ulbricht is being charged with planning to kill someone via a hitman surly this kid should be aswell for the threats made against Thymos

This ^^ 100 %  . Lets be fair here.

I have no idea who this kid but sometimes things are just better let go, I don't know what this info from the email contained but maybe it's good just letting it be.

As for making threats against Theymos, I don't know what was said but I would think Theymos possibly needs to be more worried about the US government and holding the funds for this site here than a hacker kid.

Shut the fuck up. Go tell your buddy he stirred the wrong hornets nest. We,  as a whole, take this very seriously

Agreed. Attempted extortion and death threats (no matter how pathetic or amateur) deserve nothing but a sore ass over the next several years. People have gotten in trouble for far less
