the ironic thing is that he posted this link along with "that's a little overboard" on his facebook http://nationalreport.net/15-year-old-swatted-domestic-terrorism/

he's got to be wondering "shit, if this kid swatted someone and got 25 years, what the fuck will i get?"

also, i've been checking out profiles of his friends (they are hilariously like him.. skinny kids who listen to hip hop, watch southpark/jackass and wear baseball caps).

that story was a hoax

You guys ever think about leaving this kid alone?  Because if I was him at this point with everyone knowing me I think I would sign a $10-25k deal with Newsweek to Dox Satoshi to just be even more of a dick.

You leave the kid alone he might end up leaving Satoshi alone if he does have his info.

If Ross Ulbricht is being charged with planning to kill someone via a hitman surly this kid should be aswell for the threats made against Thymos

This ^^ 100 %  . Lets be fair here.

I have no idea who this kid but sometimes things are just better let go, I don't know what this info from the email contained but maybe it's good just letting it be.

As for making threats against Theymos, I don't know what was said but I would think Theymos possibly needs to be more worried about the US government and holding the funds for this site here than a hacker kid.

Shut the fuck up. Go tell your buddy he stirred the wrong hornets nest. We,  as a whole, take this very seriously

I would surmise that the lives of the founders are now potentially in danger.
No.

No.

And so much more no.

Why must I/we continue to live in this world. We have the tool needed to liberate (wo)man, and we want to spend our time crucifying a child.  Bitcoin media should take shame, shotty journalism making summary news on shotty journalism. We have ability to prove ourselves in terms of "I am satsohi".  Stop and think.  You are all to stuck on the idea of "gold", so much so you forget that "bitcoin" is really and simply an un-decrytable lock.  The whole monetary aspect is simply the product of that.   Satoshi didn't leave his bitcoin key's in his email, nor his identity, nor any other significant dox.

You have a person, with clearly the mentality of a child claim they knew they could have manipulated the price and/or demanded a ransom but choose instead a 500btc "donation" from the community.  The kid doesn't have anything, and this is why they posted an invoice with satoshi's email.  That's not evidence of anything other than they have nothing and the general community is gullible. No one needs to die over this, and the cops and fed aren't going to do anything, the beast that is bitcoin has been released, and no one stands to gain by its demise, and this means the fed cannot within its economic ability, do anything.  The fed seeks $ev opportunity, because of the invisible hand, and taking out either this kid or satoshi does not feed that need.

Nor would we want it too, are we sure we are spending our energy in the correct direction?  Are we still supposed to be segregating people from the general population and out-casting them with threatening perspectives?

The media prints what the peoples want....this is what YOU wanted.

Satoshi doesn't give a shit if they are outed, that is obvious, bitcoin has spread like wildfire, and every single country, government, financial institution in the world is feverishly trying to adjust and adapt. People around the world are watching as their "peoples" and 3rd world countries are beginning to be connected to the global economy. Government isn't coming after satoshi, government is made of people, it's different now, different because bitcoin is HERE.  "Satoshi" whomever the name stands for, needed to hide until bitcoin become accepted by enough peoples, the size at which it could not be contained...after that...there is no reason to go after them-its done.

I will always maintain Satoshi hides not from the governments, but from the peoples, the masses that throughout the ages have gone on insane witch hunts torturing those that are different or not understood. "Satoshi" doesn't get to walk this earth freely, yet they clearly freed mankind.  Why do you get to walk free?  Are you not mankind?

These people that go around speaking to important bodies in a "politically" correct fashion, so as not to disturb the status quo...is this what we call rationality?  The greatest "invention" of all of mankind and the inventor and the peoples behind it must be secretive and cautious about it?  Why can we not collectively just adopt this technology and move with it, why we are stuck on some child like mind playing a prank on a seemingly deserving community?

It's not this child's fault Satoshi's is at risk, we must look to ourselves, always look to ourselves, who else is there but "us".

Don't be mean.

And btw, if you don't think Nick Szabo's blog was all the information needed to lead up to and create bitcoin you haven't read it. You simply haven't read szabo's writings.  We know who szabo satoshi and dai are if we have read their materials.  And if we have versed ourselves on their works we know whoever nick szabo is, he functions well above the jurisdiction of the "feds", he's been ahead of these intelligence agencies for a VERY long time.

We are underestimating the intelligence of Satoshi (who proposed bitcoin) and Szabo (and even dai), there are not 2 of these men. They have seen very very far into the past, and even further into the future, well beyond the new technologies like ethereum that are coming out.

It's true even the best screw up, but not like this, and even if it were so, the only reason satoshi's email would possibly be linkable to their identity is as a time lock in case they passed they knew it would be hacked.  In fact satoshi knew they'd be "dox'd" eventually, its probably just a "game" to them at this point.

No more witch hunts, I want to live in a world where Satoshi feels free, and comfortable to walk the earth as they please...in full view of who they TRULY are.

Dear world please change, because Satoshi, I want to thank-you... I have a feeling you spent decades on this, for the world to experience something you might possible never will truly see the full extent of....

also...there's this guy...who's been touring the world since 1995 (when szabo started blogging), talking about a new concept of money that might force the governments to bow to the peoples demands in relation to a more stable inflation rate. Super good at encryption knowledge and math.  Really good at game theory too because they invented our solutions for it (bitcoin is about equilibrium game theory right?). One time they re wrote our understanding of economics but it took us 40 years to realize it (bitcoin has been 5 but the talks around the world have been 20?). They had to go into confinement for claiming they had the solution to governments colluding against the people. Super smart guy, like Szabo and Satoshi, only I feel like there is only one person at this magnitude of intelligence (why do we feel like there is 5?). Once time they wrote the government explaining they could create an effectively undecryptable encryption, also in another letter wrote about how a highly parallel computer system could function in a decentralized fashion...was over 50 years ago though....

I have provided this thread to an appropriate agent.

I think the diagnosis of autistic is right on, like rain main savant. Seems like he was completely content with 25BTC, yeah 25 BTC, Call Of Duty....yeah, island in the Caribbean, yeah.

Do the agent a big favor, and provide him with this thread, too.

This from last year, much much more infor on him

No sense to reuse is different nick after a huge blowup like this

Yep, the real hacker could be using this kid's info from twitter, Skype, etc. to impersonate him. Did Roger Ver post any evidence that showed it was actually this kid, and not someone impersonating him?

the alleged hacker is a high school kid.

The problem with black hat people is they are usually misguided script kiddies who lack discipline.

Lastly, they are usually loudmouths who boast about committing crimes

lol the facebook account is gone !

no, it's still there https://www.facebook.com/steven.wynhoff.3 you can also find his family members (which i think isn't fair) since his whole family was doxed.

I see a similar message when I try to see the page.

Deleting profiles takes some time, and I don't think they disappears from everyone at the same time(they need to sync servers and stuff)

By the way: anyone has any idea how someone like him managed to hack the email? If he really did it, of course.

the 30k coins were from escrow, the other 144k were from his wallets that did not even have password protection (IIRC). everybody makes mistakes, but you can't be called a genius and make obvious ones like the aforementioned, or him posting posting his e-mail here on bitcointalk.

Everyone has their forte and can be considered a genius in their own right(including other aspects outside of computer security). Sure he may have made a few more mistakes than the average CCC member but if you reviewed his security habits he was more careful than 99.9% of humanity. In hindsight it is easy to focus on the couple of flaws he made out of laziness or simple mistakes but you are ignoring the thousands of smart habits he made to secure himself. It took millions of dollars and the combined efforts of the NSA and FBI to capture him after over a year of investigating.

Then they aren`t really experts, no info will lead to the real satoshi period.

You are living in a fantasy world if you think that security experts don't make mistakes. Everyone makes mistakes and being 100% secure is impossible. The best one can do realistically is add multiple layers of security and be careful and paranoid. I don't trust "security experts" with big egos as they tend to believe they are infallible and don't double check their work.

I think the question remains. How he get access to the Satoshi's email account?

have you read this thread? its pretty much established that satoshis email password reset question was his birthday which was brute forced.

So is anyone in the USA going to step up to the plate and phone this into the police? The BTC community went SJW crazy last time someone tried to expose Satoshi, we should now and again in the future especially when its a dumb kid. At least it was only a dumb kid, who didnt truly appreciate what he could of done to BTC, as someone posted earlier they could of easily started rumours that they were about to dump their million coins and sent the market into a panic
People like this hacker bother me so much. He had an opportunity to make millions upon millions of dollars by taking a highly leveraged short against BTC with either his own money (if he has money) or someone else's money. Yet, instead he plays a few pranks and begs for 25 BTC. Then, he uses his real usernames for everything and basically doxes himself.

There's nothing wrong with not doing anything "bad" with information. If I had access to the email account, I'm sure I would have just read through the emails out of curiosity and then let the account rest without using it. However, if you're going to make something of it, do it right instead of trying to make a few pennies.

I can give the kid a break if he's 14 or younger. That's young enough that he may not have realized the potential of what he had. Otherwise, just a really stupid guy who has just made a lot of trouble for himself with virtually no financial reward.

One interesting aspect of this crypto-currency experiment is that it is forcing us to all approach digital security far more carefully and creating innovative solutions  of securing our assets.

Some practices never change however... we used to call "cold storage security" , "sneakerware" back in the day because the speed of transfering data was on how fast your sneakers could transport the hard drives or tape from the offline server to the networked servers.

+101

Good find.

I'm 99% sold on the chain of links that it's him.

But there is the 1% that thinks we might have another Dorian Nakamoto moment.

Worth hauling him in to teach him a lesson at the very minimum. He seems like a real piece of work. Could be doing him a favour and saving him from a life behind bars.

I am more concerned of the ramification of this child's actions.   For criminals and federal agents, it has led a nice warm path to the founders of the Bitcoin system and this implies the Bitcoin system is now vulnerable if the original founders are found.  Furthermore since there is billions and potentially trillions of dollars involved, I would surmise that the lives of the founders are now potentially in danger.

Very very doubtful.  More likely having a chuckle and a cup of tea.  No one is close to the real Satoshi, and there aren't any leads here to be had.
