All this p2pfoundation hack AND hacking gmx AND the wired story about selling Satoshis identity for 12000USD makes no sense to me. He could get ALOT more from SN if he really knows his identity and SN was alive and trying to hide. Is he really that dumb?

Blackmail is illegal in most places around the world. I'm guessing the hacker should give up now and walk away while this is still relatively trivial.

I doubt any hacker who is arrogant enough to call Satoshi a fool... also someone who was able to force their way in to an email account that was no doubt under attack for 5 years+ would worry about being discovered... if anything he would love the challenge

If the markets and media see this as negative news for Bitcoin, then the timing linked to Apple announcements of a new payment system is very suspect.

Don't use that...Use this.

Apple "innovation" is the same turd wrapped in different (more expensive) plastic.

Australians have been using "Pay pass" for that turd for quite a while, i'd doubt they (or anyone else) are going to move to the (now lego person known compromised) thing  with the battery that lasts less than one day.

I have seen numerous of these around:

or

http://bitbin.it/sOjcnNkd

or I have seen 4 other addresses.  I think people are just posting these to try and get a payday.  None of them seem to be for the same address lol

A lot of people here seem to be thinking it doesn't make sense for Satoshi to just stop posting, leaving emails unpurged etc.
I hope this throws some light on that.

Some facts about terminating a throw away identity:

On the crypto lists back in the 90's we already knew that Carnivore was recording email contents at ISP's under gag orders, Enigma was operating, and data recorded at choke points into and out of major land masses. You also knew there were copies everywhere, in backups, in other peoples email accounts as well as their backups, etc.

From the day you created an alias like this, you would be ensuring there was nothing linking it to your real ID, and if you screwed up it was already too late to fix.
Exit from the alias then didn't require a 'last login' to purge email, and in fact that might have been more dangerous (if you were terminating it because you suspected surveillance)

Satoshi might not have been around then, but we're sure he read that stuff carefully since that was when the building blocks for bitcoin were created, and the early attempts at digital cash were tried.
His security mind set may not have been created then but was surely influenced by those discussions.

So, no need to be thinking he was careless or must have died to leave things as he did.
It was the exit plan all along.

That's it, but many people don't understand his cleverness.

If this hacker could possibly have found any of Satoshi's private keys then we would have seen the coins being moved to new addresses pretty quickly. Either by the hacker or Satoshi to ensure they have sole ownership.

Interesting stuff - could pave the way to Satoshi making a legitimate reappearance Smiley

{private thoughts}

please please please lets this turn into the scene from Sirens of Titian.

{/private thoughts}

yes yes, a reappearance could spark some sort of rallying around the man... no?

of course we'd need an official spokes person has anyone predicted Satoshi's return?

havnt you read revelations?
