  WhatsApp and telegram scams are seemingly rampant in recent times and it’s so sad that ignorance makes people fall prey, though I won’t blame them as a whole cos these scams comes in different ways. Sometimes they may seem appealing, real and undetectable whilst sometimes, they may seem obvious; well this is for the unprofessional scammers. But whichever way we ought to take the right measures in order not to be these scammers prey. In most situations these scams may also come in form unnecessary links that we find ourselves clicking on and joining diverse groups just for the fun of it.
  Personally, the first solution I’d give as regards avoiding the scams will be first being mindful of the links we click and the groups we join on social media. And then we do our best to get more enlightened on some appealing posts  we may come across that’s got every possibility of putting us in jeopardy due to scams. Scammers are everly increasing and they won’t reduce in their numbers so do their style of scams. We should be watchful to the least possible means that these scammers may use to get us. When we are in a situation of scam, we have every leisure of thinking it through, making proper verifications before acting. We shouldn’t ever be caught just acting at that instance if not we’d just keep being prey to these people.

Thank you for bringing this notice to forum members I believe this is wake up call to everyone to always be at alert because the various tactics deployed by those scammers is getting more sophisticated such that any newbie can easily fall into their trap, it's obvious that they work in group thus throwing everything to their unsuspecting victims thus which might likely look real  whereas it's a scam and again we should be wary of joining any telegram or Whatsapp groups because the mode operation of those scammers is target less inform people or unenlightened individuals.

I have been approached by these scammers thinking they can easily scam me. The person texted me that they have a job Ican be making money by just viewing adverts on Youtube. I kept asking the girl how she got my number and she never answered this question, instead she kept telling me the benefit I will derive from the so called job. After giving her time to explain how she got my number and she couldn't I had to block her because I knew what her intent was. It's easy to detect these scammers once you notice that something is too enticing and the time frame is short just know it's a scam. If it was real the person will go after his/her relatives and will never remember you.

While this look like a scam, I have read the message but unable to get what the scammers target in their victims. Maybe they are just harvesting the time and views you will give to their YouTube videos and the impression you will give their social media account. Saying this because base on the format of digital marketing job, it will be illogical for them to start asking for payment... it will be a red flag and I know scammers are not stupid

I will advise that anyone who receive this kind of message should never open untrusted links or release any sensitive information.

I don come across all this messages through WhatsApp and Telegram, even for Facebook and Instagram sef I Don receive am many times and when I see it I just ignore it, and if the scammer continue messaging me I just block the person directly, all this scammers nowadays no get shame again because na from where them too dey see things chop and after scammed person they will now be saying na grace them use collect the money, na God go dey keep punish them and any time wey they want to scammed person make the person realize and block them, because if you no block them, them get one kind sweet mouth wey if them use am talk to you you fit fall for their trap.

WhatsApp and Telegram own Don tey wey I dey see am na, Telegram own sef dey plenty because the way I dey see Telegram if you dey one kind group like this, na him dey go see you online message you and begin dey talk about one kind yeye platform or daily investment wey go make your head bost, the only way we fit avoid them na him be say we go just ignore there message or block them because nowadays, them fit go use juju chat person make person no go loseguard give them waiting person dey save for future, but i wan still ask oo, if them scammed person how the person go feel?

Omo these guys no dey tire at all because they are always updated with all the recent trends that is actually happen around and they always stay updated, that's why am always surprised on how people are willing to do the wrong things for the right reasons because scammers actually take their time out to stay updated in their course to defraud others.

So, OP, please explain what this was all about, what you were assigned to do, and what kind of payment you were offered. This could be one of those low-cost agencies that hires people to spam YouTube video comment sections with phoney testimony and investment links. Unauthorised contact should always be reported and blocked.


Your uncle was fully aware that he did not apply for the post and nonetheless fell prey to this cheap OTP scam. This is the result of greed.

This scammers are very subtle. They called my uncle last week through phone call and told him that his name is one of the nominees in the APC Media Campaign team and they want to send the list to the governnor candidate of APC and they send the OTP to his phone and told him to send the code back to them so they can add his name and send and he send it to them and they used the code to hack the WhatsApp and be using it to request money from people unluckily nobody gave him anything because the owner of the Whatsapp was not asking anyone anything because everyone knows him as a discipline person so when the request came to them they have to make phone calls to confirm if was really him and he told them to steer clear from the hacker. And finally the WhatsApp was retrieved last two weeks.

What I will also advise is that nobody should send any code that enter your phone to anyone that is requesting it back either you delete the number instant or your insult the scam so that he will leave you dm. Dis people are something else this days.

Op this scammers are no longer new to Whatsapp and Telegram but especially Whatsapp, they go about sending different messages looking for who to scam most times they even add you to a WhatsApp group without your permission and in their group you will see a lot of evidence via transactions which will attract you to want to give them a listening ear or want to invest but once you get started, you will be shocked to know that the person who added you in the group is the same person operating the other Whatsapp numbers that you saw before joining the investment.

The best thing to do when you get a message from an unknown person asking you to join an investment platform is to report and block the person, I believe if everyone gets to find out about who they are they will develop another means or tricks to continue their scamming activities.


Funny enough most people who send these messages are the people who know you but who wants to scam you by using a different number, My reason for saying this is because someone who doesn't have your number can't reach you on WhatsApp so it's either they get your number from people who knows you or they are people who knows what you are into or things that you will be interested to do.

Omo scammers don dey sophisticated with their scamming activities oh, everyday we dey wake up to a new concept.
I've had similar experiences of one sending me a message on WhatsApp, asking me to click on a link she dropped on my WhatsApp, saying it will lead me to an investment platform that I will benefit from. I asked her, who gave her my number, she refused to reply me, immediately I blocked her.

The Issue With most vulnerable Nigerians its simply that they don't ask themselves honest questions before deciding to engage into any money generating activity.
1. You should know that for someone to promise to pay you 10k, he should be making say least 100k from that venture to be able to balance process costs and have some gains for themselves, yes you should be making at least 10 times what you pay your workers to still be in business. This is when you should be honest with yourself, check how much you're promised and the possibility of them getting their money back from the tasks you're assigned.

3. Another one is any website telling you to invest in it before you're paid is possibly a scam cos you don't pay before you're employed in any remote job.

Lastly, as the Christmas season is drawing near, we need to be wiser and not be scape goats and fall prey to online scammers.

Most times these scammers would even provide you with websites that is tended to make you believe they are real and approved. Even many of the apps that are published in the play stores where only legit apps are licensed has been compromised how by what ever kind of app is possible being in a trust file as play store.

Be aware of seeing positive testifiers who gives excellent remarks to the Scammers whichever ways of pretence that they are to be trusted, some would say they doubted the organization or the opportunity not til he/she did exactly what was instructed to do then found they are bonafides. Mind you... They are all one in corporation. They could even use either some names and profile pics to emotionally melt your heart from doubts.

Also, they Operates on disguise to be an legal existing organization while they are just impersonators. They could know about the official username or social handle the legit
and existing organization then to convince the public and its victims, they would create similar usernames or official handles with either a different of just an alphabet or a characters differences which is likely to make the public and its victims believe they are on the right track with the real (legit) organization.
E.g.  Assuming "bitcoin.org.ng" is a username or any form of social handle from a  legitimate (real) organization and these scammers wants to impersonate, they would have something similar like "bitcoin_.org.ng" or the other ways.

These are basically internet fraud systems.

Though there are content creators who are willing and ready just to pay people to watch and promote their YouTube channels to ascertain the eligible criteria needed for monetization, that is, 1000 subscribers and 4000 watch hours, which such services "gigs" can be found on "Fiverr" and people are paying to have such work done.  But when a random stranger dive into your Whatsapp or Telegram inbox asking you if will you be interested for such service, I will advise everybody to know that that's a potential red flag that it's likely to be a scam, and as such it's advisable not to fall for it, as you will literally just waste your time and yet not getting paid a penny.

The truth is that no matter how we see it people will always fall a victim in one way or the other, because most persons are not really aware on how far scammers has gone and the kind of strategies that seem very real that if you are not careful you may likely fall a victim.

Just yesterday my neighbor would have been scammed on Facebook, they ask her few questions to answer in other to receive a certain amount and she did answer the question, and the next thing they did was to ask her to pay a certain amount of money before they could credit her the 100k she won and she wanted to pay the money if not that I was around, funny enough one of there convincing method they use was to upload some videos of people claiming to have received there money so that people will believe that is real.

So in as much as we may feel that people are not supposed to fall for scammers, there are also people who are very gullible and doesn't no anything like scam so those kind of people could easily be a victim of scammers.

I dey wonder how some of us dey fall for some kind of scams. You no know the person from anywhere, him just PM you and begin to tell you about a business or an investment wey be say you never hear before and you gats commit your hard earned money into it. You know need to consult soothsayer to know say na scam. This kind of scam dey common well well for telegram and some times the scammer no go introduce the business immediately, him go act all nice and after a while him go want introduce the investment to you. Whichever way them take dey come make wey dey always use our head abeg.

The problem say they done cast and them wan use the opportunity of people wey they find work to take scam people, the matter self funny how you go just chat person up tell the person to perform a task and you go get money, the issue of scammer they increase everyday and the more police they catch them the more them they increase be like say the government have to change there purnishement because the way the thing be now them no wan change even if they arrest them, my brother na true you talk has December done near now you go they see different things come up just because they wan get money do chrismas.

As the year done they finish make we they very careful abeg because na different drama you go they see no be even about scam alone, the way the thing be now people fit do anything because of money na the problem be that, make we even mind were we they enter.

I've also witnessed receiving links like that on text messages that I've been offered a job which i didn't applied for, the moment you begin to give them audience then they begin to psych you to know how vulnerable you could be in giving out information, once they make the discovery that you're being a novice then they can make use of any formats that best works according to your kind of person to scam, they have different ways and ideas that they can use in deceiving people, all they need is your attention and response from whatever they demand, if you sighted such, block and delete their line.

I no go dey suprise say all this scams for whatsap nah from people wey get our number or done get access to people wey get our number. Because how they dey use get our phone number nah, abi all this network services done they sell our privacy.  Or they just they typpe rand numbers then message the number. So anyboady wey no dey wise and fall for scam i believe say the person no sabi read and write because e dey easy now to indentify scams. December done they reach we go see a lot this period and people wey ah they pity nah those people wey they village wey no too get knowledge of how this peole they use operate nah them they moslty fall for all this things.

Make we try give oientation to our people wey dey village especially people wey they close to us, make them avoid all this kind of messages because nah us they mostly get the information before then so e go pain us if we here say them scam any of our relative and friends if we no let them know.

Scam is no longer a new thing in 9ja. if you watch out for we contry you go observe say cyber crime dey increase every day by day and the cause of this thing na lack of employment from the youth. But we go dey very careful because guys dey mean to make this money by all means. If you watch out you go hear as information dey come from social media everyday on how our young girls dey die because of cyber criminals called Yahoo boys. All this na quest to make mama proud. Even the mama wey Dem wan make proud self, Dem dey use am for sacrifice join. So my advice be say make we dey try to ignore this kind people entirely just like oga Charles Tim said. I dey see all this kind message for Facebook almost everyday I come dey say if all this kind of business idea dey why Dem no help their family members instead come dey find people for social media. Where as anything wey dey bring money people no dey reveal am just like that. Just like this Bitcoin forum I never mistakenly see anybody post am for social media that is to tell you how secretive successful things dey be.

I have fallen into the track of even DMing this person when I was badly looking for a job some time last year. I talk about how they were from a company I dropped my CV for or they got my contact information from where I might have dropped my CV, as their message claims I was accepted to work with them as per my application and I should click on the link below to get more information, which directed me to WhatsApp that day, and I realise it was this set of jobless people looking for someone to waste their time.


This is exactly what I always do: once they approach me with a welcome message like hi or hello, I respond back to be sure of who is on my DM. Once they start with that rubbish talk, I go straight ahead and report them. The only reason I don't block any unknown contact, especially a foreign number, immediately is because it might be a genuine message from someone who is away.
