At last, now I could show my friends that Bitcoin is counted as a word.

Anyway, this is actually the mark that people have been starting to adopt bitcoin into their daily lives. Why did they wait this long just to include Bitcoin in the dictionary unless they are interested in it. As we know, this year has been the peak of Bitcoin, especially on the side of the media. More and more people are introduced to Bitcoin and more and more people are starting to use Bitcoin. Bitcoin is not a strange sounded term right now. It will soon be in everyone's computer gadget. It will finally get well accepted by society.

One question though, anyone here uses the official dictionary of Scrabble when playing it?  Such would be a waste of time if they do LOL.  Imagine, everytime a word is place someone will check at the official scrabble word list.., unless it is an official tournament, that would be funny if it was only a friendly game.
I don't think anybody is doing that, but the whole point of this is the exposure Bitcoin gains from it-- it has been covered by mainstream media worldwide. It's free and much needed advertising for Bitcoin.

Of course, there are always people who say that Bitcoin doesn't need it, but this is just free exposure and it happens to be positive as well. We have been through times where things were completely the opposite.

This exposure will help people remember that Bitcoin is making moves forward. More and more legitimate use cases emerge helping to feel nocoiners more comfortable that Bitcoin is here to stay.

Seems Scrabble is late in including the word Bitcoin in their dictionary, but nevertheless it is acceptable by players who knows it (Bitcoin).  One question though, anyone here uses the official dictionary of Scrabble when playing it?  Such would be a waste of time if they do LOL.  Imagine, everytime a word is place someone will check at the official scrabble word list.., unless it is an official tournament, that would be funny if it was only a friendly game.

But nevertheless, this new inclusion of Bitcoin word in the official list of Scrabble game is a sign of a world wide adoption for me.

Wow! That was some news.
If you are a 80's type of kid.

But now? Is it still a big news for the new era of kids? Not anymore.
If it aint a game from the playstore or from the Itunes then it doesnt matter to them anymore.

I went to a toy shop last week and never saw this. Maybe I will come back next week to see if it is real.
I still have my scrabble at home, sadly it was full of dust by now.

I am trying to make my nieces and nephews play it but it is really difficult to pursue new kids.
But to me, yeah great news. Maybe I will play with them and use this word and see their shocked faces.  Grin

I don't think this will have any immediate effect, but these are small steps towards increased popularity and usage of Bitcoin.

Brand awareness is extremely important, and exactly why scammers such as Roger Ver don't support any other coin because no one cares about the rest.

Next step is to have the Lightning thunder symbol become widely known because that's the killer application, and soon to be supported by most reputable clients by default. Once that is in place, exchanges will follow too because they just act based on demand, which is understandable from their position. We're on the right track from where things will only get better.

Bitcoin silencing nocoiners is one of the best forms of marketing there is.  Grin

My friends and family would always use slang terms when playing scrabble, we never went by official dictionary rules.  Makes the game a lot more fun because scrabble is a pretty boring game otherwise.  Do they still sell the physical board game, it has been years since I actually played scrabble.

Oh, Scrabble is by all means more advanced than a lot of central banks and governments. Bitcoin, even cryptocurrency, is still virtually unknown to the world of bankers and politicians. Scrabble is open-minded. Its vocabulary is very much mainstream. We will be expecting crypto words such as Ethereum and HODL soon.

Actually, "Bitcoin" (worth a measly 11 base points) was added to the sixth edition of the Official Scrabble Players Dictionary, released past September 2018 (ISBN 978-0-87779-596-4), not to the cover of the game’s box itself. You can check the officially valid game’s words here: https://scrabble.hasbro.com/en-us/tools#dictionary -> No Blockchain, nor any other crypto related word I’ve tried is listed there.

Surprisingly enough, "Ok" was one of the star additions (a bit of a latecomer …).

Wow, strange coincidence, because we were playing "Scrabble" the other night, when I jokingly made a word, "BitKoin" and the other players aceepted it as a word, until I told them that the word was spelled wrong.

Nice to see that it has been added to a official dictionary now, so if I get to use it again, I would legally have scored some good points on the word that are recognised in the dictionary.  Grin

I don't know if we can consider this as getting closer to adoption, but we will take everything in stride.  Grin. Maybe next year we will see a lot of altcoins being added as well.  Smiley

The word bitcoin getting included in scrabble is essential I believe but considering many altcoins is sure I won't accept. But I just wonder if kids still really play this kind of board games nowadays because if they do, this is a good way to pass the information or exposed them to the world of blockchain and cryptocurrency.
Essential? Scrabble is more or less old news, the kids will think it's a physical version of the app words with Friends. This means nothing though, it's just merian saying Bitcoins added to the dictionary which they did a while ago.

Being noticed and this kind of small recognition is already a big thing for Bitcoin. It would be another form of publicity which will be helpful for users to understand Bitcoin not just as a single word. Also, Scrabble isn't just for kids but for adults as well. Even kids nowadays have the curiosity about new words and meanings followed by the question about its functions.

Sure. They will just add a word "shitcoin" and we can consider that hundreds of altcoins are already added to the dictionary.

But frankly speaking if you are happy that someone admitted to use the word Bitcoin then we are far from adoption lol. Already for a long time people are not getting any new words from any dictionaries anymore.

It's surprising that Bitcoin is being recognized and noticed in different ways around the world.
It was just being adopted by merchants these days and it's now being recognized and added even in scrabble.
People will surely be more aware about cryptocurrency becsuse of this.

I agree, it could be another stepping stone for bitcoin, with this a lot will be aware of bitcoin and hopefully it will help them know a bit of bitcoin. Considering a lot companies have now recognized bitcoin, I believe it will have a good impact in the price once a lot of people invest on bitcoin.

This is literally more than advertisement IMO as one of the most famous board games just recognized bitcoin as one of its official words. There might not be a lot of people playing scrabble, moreso the physical board game anymore but this might cause the inquisitive minds to check what really is bitcoin and do/search things from there. This might not be the best news we can get but I'm just elated that a childhood board game I used to play is slowly adapting to the rapid change in the ecosystem, albeit just adding a single word in their words list.

while it is not something too significant, this is what mass adoption is made of
Scrabble is a very popular game and getting kids know what bitcoin is ( or at least that there is such a word) means a lot
step by step we are getting closer and closer to the times when the word "bitcoin" is as common as "money"

How we imagined mass adoption:
people paying with BTC in stores, getting their salaries in BTC, paying online with BTC, banks are weeping because they are constantly losing customers, some banks are already collapsing.

What we got instead:
Scrabble added the word "Bitcoin", also Apple and Microsoft added support for Bitcoin symbol. Meanwhile almost all network activity comes from exchanges and traders.

I am sure this is just part of the growing awareness of the people on bitcoin. To be included in the new words of the scrabble game, the word has to be popular already and in use especially in online interactions. There is no doubt this can be helping for the mainstream adoption but of course there is no magic bean here. Certainly, the road to mainstream adoption is not just one event but rather a compounding effect of so many factors and even personalities contributing towards that goal. And of course, we are not there yet.
I agree that it signifies a certain accomplishment of Bitcoin and can boost awareness. Every neutral or positive mention of Bitcoin counts as a good thing! Commercials, TV series, movies, and now games - all of that is helping to make Bitcoin even more popular as well as make people who already use it smile. It's also good that the diversity of mentions widens the audience, since, for example, someone who learned the word 'Bitcoin' from iZombie might not be a Scrabble fan, but those fans have their own way to learn the same word. I don't think this will have any immediate effect, but these are small steps towards increased popularity and usage of Bitcoin.
