Your $2100 lies in that company and if they happen to say that they'll return it to you, that's good. But if they say that they cannot do anything with it since it is on their possession, you cannot do anything with it.

you must regularly ask an update about this recovery. some company very slow to handle any problem.First, is this an exchange? Because if it is an exchange, they can easily return it to you. Because usually, the TRC20 address for both TRX and USDT-TRC20 is the same. But if it is not an exchange, it depends if that company is having USDT-TRC20 in their network. But this is very possible. Is it an exchange?If you really have the proof that you sent USDT using the TRC20 network to that TRX address of the company (or probably if it is an exchange), it means that it is still in a similar network. So, it may be recoverable.

So you are suggesting him to file a case for it. For 2100$ it will cost more than it. I think he should wait because that company says that they will look at it. That means they have the private key of that wallets and they can recover that funds. It will be better to wait and give them some time.
People should be careful when they are doing transactions in crypto. I saw many people sending funds to contract addresses by mistake.
